Walker shuffled out of his last period class, making sure he had all of his belongings in his shoulder-bag before walking out into the schoolyard. The grass below him waved softly with the breeze, but Walker was taking no notice to any of these details. Right now the important thing he had on his mind was sending his father an e-mail. It was almost 3 P.M., and he had yet to type it up. Finding a bench, he quickly sat down and pulled a notebook out from his bag, flipping to the page where he drafted his e-mail during lunch. With much haste, his fingers were typing madly on his iPhone as he transposed the words from paper to technology.
Within minutes his e-mail was typed, revised, edited, and ready to be sent. As his thumb slid over that small “Send’ button in the corner of his screen, a small feeling of hesitation creeped up. Today had been a particularly bad day; he got an 89 on a project that was returned in class today. In his defense, his portion of the work was impeccable; it was his partner’s work that lowered his grade to the extent it was lowered.
Father wouldn’t care, though. A bad grade is a bad grade, no exceptions. Erasing any feelings of doubt, Walker released his thumb and watched as his day was condensed into a small blue bar, slowly running across the screen until it diminished and was replaced with an affirmation of his e-mail’s voyage.
Nodding at his phone, he placd it down on the bench next to his bag before turning his head to the wind, hair blowing back as his eyes squinted into the breeze.
