Losing Jack at the start of the school year had undoubtedly been a shock to Aaron, but as far as Benji could tell, the older Warbler seemed to be holding up well enough. But then Scotty had left, and,
yes, Benji had noticed the change in Gabriel - who hadn't? - but he'd also noticed the change in Aaron. While he couldn't pretend to know the ins and outs of their relationship, Benji
was aware that Aaron and Scotty were close, if only because Colby had constantly referred to the blond as Aaron's pet. Benji wasn't especially fond of the phrasing, but the point stood - that was two significant losses for his teammate. It's true what they say: bad things happen in threes. That weekend, Eoin has announced that he wouldn't be returning to Dalton. In all technicality, the opportunity that the boy had been presented with couldn't
really be called 'bad,' but for Aaron's sake, there was no doubt that it was. Benji had been keeping an eye on Aaron in the days that had followed, and was saddened to conclude that he'd been right for worrying.
The junior couldn't confess to being especially close to Aaron, but he was under the impression that they both liked one another well enough. Keeping the older student in charge of the Warblers' choreography meant that the council had plenty of contact with him, too, so he was far more comfortable speaking with his teammate than he might have been the previous year. Still, he knew that the conversation he intended to start wouldn't follow a smooth course, but Benji was determined to see it through. Regardless of his Warbler status, Benji hated seeings his peers struggling, so when it was someone he was in a position to help? He'd never forgive himself for not trying. With that in mind, he waved Vince and his friends off after practice, telling them that he'd catch up with them later. Reaching up, the brunet brushed his hair from his eyes and glanced around; the boys were starting to file out by that point, so it was then or never, and Benji cleared his throat before calling Aaron's name. He waited until he had the older boy's attention before adding, "Do you mind staying back for a bit? I wanted to have a word..."
