RP: Library Time!
Who: Eric Barrison & Jonah Schwartz
What: Eric is organizing, Jonah wants a book.
Where: Dalton library
When: Wednesday morning
Rating: SFW with added awkward flirting

Eric loved the library when it was empty. There were no students set on making his life difficult, or trying to be "helpful" and shelve things themselves. Not that Eric didn't appreciate their willingness to work, he'd just rather do it himself. At the moment he was just in one of the lounge-type chairs he'd arranged for optimal comfort while reading, and was just enjoying his library. There was work to be done: new books to shelve, old books to donate, left over lost and found to be discarded, but it was also two days before Christmas and even Eric knew when it was time to relax.

He had his shirt sleeves rolled up, his tie loosened and his jacket was hung neatly on a peg behind the desk. It was about as relaxed as Eric ever was at work, even when there were no students about. He reached out, running his fingers over the spines of the nearby books, and smiled at the feel, even thought it was ridiculous. No one was here to see him essentially fondling them, so there was nothing to be ashamed of.

Jonah had snuck into the library hoping to get his hands on the next book on his list. It was so close to Christmas, and with the students long gone, he was surprised it was still open, but then maybe it shouldn't have been. Everyone knew Mr. Barrison–Eric–was a book freak, so why wouldn't he think it was completely normal to be keeping the library open so late into Christmas vacation? Jonah had spent a good ten minutes looking for the book he wanted, the number written on a scrap of paper. Different letters were in different sections and he couldn't find the 'P's, and then when he finally did, his book wasn't where it was supposed to be.

He hadn't even seen Eric since he came into the library, everything was empty and quiet. He didn't want to find him either, especially, since he was pretty sure the man looked down on anyone who couldn't figure out something as simple as finding a book in a library. There were levels of elitism to Eric's book snobbery, right? It was a good bet. Jonah bit his lip, undecided, but then he turned a corner and there was Eric sitting in a chair, reading, absent mindedly stroking the spine of a nearby book like it was a woman (or a man), looking like sex with a loose tie and his sleeves rolled up and...oh. Jonah blushed and stumbled, clearing his throat to try to cover up his blunder. So much fail in so little time. "Uhm...hi."

Eric nearly smiled at Jonah, amused by the babbling and the blushing. He would have to be deaf, dumb and blind not to notice the crush, but he'd also made it a rule to not mix business with pleasure so did his best to ignore it. Jonah Schwartz was attractive yes, but a work colleague as well. So, it was best to remain completely professional with everyone he worked with.

"Hello Jonah," Eric said, standing and offering the younger teacher a slight smile. "Did you need something?"

"Hi!" Shit, he'd already said that. Why did he have to be so fucking smooth and sexy? Jonah shifted, trying to focus on something else. Anything to keep him from doing something idiotic. Like babbling. Or tripping over his own feet again. Seriously. He was going to be twenty five in two months dammit. He could talk to his crush a coworker he was attracted to without acting like a thirteen year old girl. "Uhh, I was looking for Fahrenheit 451." Jonah willed himself to hold Eric's gaze. He was a fucking adult, alright? "It's not where it's supposed to be and the computer says it's checked in, but uh. I mean I can't imagine it being cataloged wrong so..." Like anything was out of place in Eric's library.

"Fahrenheit 451? I think I can help you with that," he said, smirking just a bit as he held up the book he had been reading. "My own fault for not checking it out, but I didn't expect anyone to be looking for it today."

He held it out to Jonah, unconcerned with losing his spot. He'd read it before, of course, nearly had it memorized by now. "Here. Why don't we check it out properly, so there's no more confusion."

"I...oh." Oh. Oh. The really girly part of his brain that loved rom coms chirped 'meant to be!' Jonah told the voice to shut the fuck up. "Oh, no, I couldn't, I mean." Eric was reading it, Jonah didn't want to be rude. He raised a hand, adamant. "Really." He wasn't about to be defeated though. "Uhm..." What else was on his reading list anyway? "Uh, how about Slaughterhouse‐Five?" He was always down for reading some Vonnegut, even if he had already checked that book out at least twice this semester.

Eric smothered a smile, finding Jonah's flustered behavior endearing. Professionalism, he reminded himself. "It's really fine, Jonah. I have another copy at home." He'd only been reading it because it was there. "Tell you what, I'll even let you take both books out." He was teasing, just a little, while still remaining professional. "Haven't you taken that out already this semester? Not that I blame you in anyway. Vonnegut is a genius."

Jonah bit his bottom lip, shaking his head. "I still couldn't..." Well, nevermind then. Eric was being insisting. Jonah flushed when Eric teased him, looking down at his feet and shifting. He smiled a little though, to hide his embarrassment blush hard on embarrassment. He shrugged a little at the question. "Yeah, I really like Vonnegut...and I don't know, I've been trying to read some new books but it's just so much effort. Fiction is kind of being difficult for me lately. It seems like I just can't get through them."

"Nothing wrong with branching out from fiction," Eric said, coming back with the Vonnegut book requested. "There's a whole library of books here, Mr. Schwartz, and a good half of them aren't fiction." He sent Jonah a tiny little smile, a hint of a dimple appearing briefly before it was gone.
