Dear (Rose, Scott, Eoin, Toby),

Congratulations! It is a pleasure to inform you that you have been selected as a recipient of a scholarship from the H. Johnson Memorial Scholarship Fund for the 2011-2012 academic year.

The scholarship will cover tuition, fees, room and board at Dalton Academy for the two semesters of the 2011-2012 school year.

Your scholarship check will be mailed directly to the school listed below. It may be used for tuition, fees, and books without incurring an income tax obligation. Other uses such as transportation, room & board or other educational expenses may incur an income tax obligation. This is a grant that does not have to be repaid.

Any balance already paid by you, your parents, or guardians towards this year's tuition will be made available to you, the student, for incidental expenses.

Best wishes for a productive and enjoyable year at school.

Sincerely,

((elegant signature here))
C. C. Freedmont, Scholarship Administrator

Personal notes at the bottom read:

Dear (Scott, Eoin, Rose, Toby)

I am very sorry that it took this long to get this into your hands. There were some legal issues that we had to resolve before the scholarships could be disbursed. But it was very important to me, and the other members of the scholarship committee, that this year's scholarships were awarded as soon as possible. We wanted the first scholarships to go to students that Harry knew and had a connection with.

Harry cared passionately about his students -- and he considered every one of you "his," even if he never had you in any of his classes. He wanted Dalton to b a safe place for all of you, and hated the idea that any of you might lose this safe haven because of financial difficulties or family issues.

So I am certain that he would join me in my hopes that you have a wonderful school year.

Yours,

Nurse Connie Freedmont, RN

Nurse Connie

Thanks for the offer of the scholarship, it's really awesome to be provided with something like that, but I'd like to respectfully decline. For about the first time since I got here I'm actually not struggling to pay my fees, in spite of my bitch of a mother what happened last year. I'd like to request the scholarship be awarded to somebody who needs it more.

Thanks.

Rose Morgan.

Dear Rose,

If you are sure that neither you nor your father can use the money, then we can certainly put it back into the fund, to be awarded next year. Thank you for letting me know.

Regards,
Connie
