Entry tags:! thread, # pairing: aaron/jack, @ character: aaron treacy, @ character: jackson aldama, status: incomplete

Who: Jack and Aaron
What: Aaron follows Blaine's advice (for once in his life) and goes to talk to Jack.
Where: Jack's room.
When: After this.
Rating: SFW for now.

Well, it had to have happened at some point. He’d managed all year without it, but tonight, Blaine Jackson finally got to him. And Aaron had made it almost all the way to exams, too.

"But sometimes talking to you is like talking to a wall with a pretty face."

Aaron had already been upset and angry before that. But weeks of trying and trying to overcome his aversion to anything personal whatsoever, and then having Jack just throw it in his face as he had in chat...

Yes. Aaron Treacy had cried.

He looked in the bathroom mirror for a final inspection. He'd wiped his tears away, and with a final runthrough of his hair with his fingers, he decided that there really was no trace of a tear left on his face at all. He looked perfectly composed. Back together again.

He beelined for Jack's door and knocked in three short raps.

Because he didn't have anywhere to go to get some of his anger out, Jack had loaded a bowl instead and then chain smoked through three cigarettes, blowing carefully out the window. He was so goddamn mad and he couldn't shake that feeling. It was a terrible, itching feeling. He felt mad at everyone and everything.

There was a knock at the door and Jack really didn't want to talk to anyone right then, but ignoring whoever had come to bother him was probably an impossible task. "It's open."

Aaron pushed it open and stood squarely in the frame. Every cell in his body burned to start with something sarcastic and biting, but he held his tongue; much as he resented Blaine's unlooked-for advice, Aaron could see as well as anyone it was sound.

He took a deep breath and spoke fairly quietly, walking in and closing the door behind him.

"You all right?"

Jack barely turned to see who it was, looking back out the window broodingly. "Not especially."

Well. This was starting off swimmingly. Aaron took another deep breath.

Step one.

"...I'm sorry," he said, looking somewhere around Jack's ear. "Guess I didn't... realise how much it actually upset you. Me going to Eoin's. Reckon I thought it just pissed you off, instead of. This." He made a vague gesture at the air with one hand.

Jack looked down, biting his lip. He just wanted shit to be fixed and he and Aaron could go back to being good together. It seemed impossible now. He flicked his cigarette carefully into his empty Coke can that substituted as an ashtray.

"I'm really fucking upset."

"I get that. Now." Aaron's hands were in his pockets, shoved in deep enough that it brought his shoulders up a bit, making him appear smaller. "...I took it as you just flat-out telling me I shouldn't go with him. Wasn't fair to you to think you were doing that at all."

He leaned against the desk gently, examining Jack's face, and ran his fingers through his hair, a little tensely. "You actually... came to me with your issues about it. I shoved them off and got pissed. So I'm sorry."

Jack didn't say anything for a minute before sighing and standing up, walking over to Aaron and threading a finger through Aaron's belt loop, pulling him into a hug. "I'm not going to tell you you can't do something...because that's not fair and I can't order you around just because we're together. But this makes me really uncomfortable. I love you and I don't want to lose you."

Step two.

"...I love you too," he murmured back, though the words seemed to crackle on the way up his throat from disuse. "And you're not losing me to him. Or to anybody." Only then did Aaron notice that the fight seemed to be going from him entirely - instead of wanting to snap anymore, he just wrapped his arms loosely around Jack's neck and hugged him back.

Jack hugged Aaron harder, pressing his face into his boyfriend's neck. "You never say it, and when you did yesterday it was only because I basically made you."

"Doesn't make it not true," Aaron countered softly into Jack's shirt. "I meant it. And what I said about you being able to take it to the bank." He was slightly on tiptoe, ankles falling out to make a little diamond with his feet; the feeling reminded him of Blaine's suggestion to dance for Jack. He turned the idea over in his mind again once and set it aside - for the future.

Jack didn't say anything. There wasn't a logical reason for him not to believe it, to not feel loved, but he just didn't. There was something in the way of taking Aaron's declaration of love at face value. And they still weren't really addressing the Eoin summer plans headon, but Jack didn't have the energy for that anymore either.

"You want to go to bed?"

"Mmh," said Aaron eloquently in the affirmative. He let their foreheads touch a moment, eyes closed, his long blond eyelashes brushing his freckled cheek.

Step three.

This was going to be the hard bit. Slowly he untangled himself from Jack's bearhug and took his hand, only bothering to take off his shoes with his toes before curling up on his boyfriend's bed.

Jack kissed Aaron on the cheek and climbed in after, tugging the sheets up over both of them and tangling their legs together, spooning behind him close.

Aaron didn't know where to start with step three.

Step three...

"...I do want to be able to go back to Ireland. Just for part of the summer," he confessed slowly, specifying the time because of something his subconscious reminded him that Blaine said about Jack being worried that he'd never come back. "My family isn't going. And I don't have any friends in Dublin close enough to ask to let me stay with them for a month and a half. And since Eoin and I have talked this out since Christ was a child..." He sighed.

And step four. "What would... make you feel more comfortable if I go?" he offered. Then, quieter, he added: "...I could take the chastity device." Though wearing it for six weeks would be pain incarnate and it could have, er, semi-long-term effects.

Jack shifted against Aaron's back uncomfortably. He didn't like this topic, didn't like thinking about Aaron being gone for so long. "I thought you said after you done at Eoin's you were going to stay with friends..."

Jack sighed. "No, that's...completely unnecessary. I just...I just know the entire time you're there I'm going to be tearing my hair out thinking about what you're doing. Who you're doing."

Aaron nodded into the pillow. "I will. But I can't stay with them for that long. We're not that close. Eoin and I are." He shifted closer against Jack. "He's... going through a shit time right now. A really shit time. I think I should go for that reason alone - that's what best friends do, right?" He bit his lip. "No matter what we had or almost were, the most important thing he is to me is my friend. Not that guy I almost dated."

There was a beat, and then Aaron rolled over in place, sightly awkwardly, so he could look at his boyfriend properly. "We could webcam every night?" he suggested. "I like your hair, Jack. I'd rather see it on your head than torn out." His fingers ran through Jack's curls gently.

Jack shrugged noncommittally. Whatever the condition of their relationship was now, or whether Aaron thought it was one thing when it was really another, was immaterial. All Jack could see was the guy he almost lost Aaron to, that Aaron used to be in love with. It was too much of a risk.

"I'm going to be all over Europe with RJ...I don't think I'm going to have access to computers and shit. We're going to be in hostels or...knowing RJ, doing coke off the bathroom toilet on some guy's yacht."

Aaron laughed quietly into the pillow. "Fair point," he concedes, a hand settling softly at Jack's waist. "Long as you don't come back a cokehead."

His forehead leaned against Jack's again. "I'm trying to think of things that might make it easier for you..." It just didn't seem to be working.

"I don't think that's really my type of drug, to be honest..." He hummed softly, leaning in to press soft kisses over Aaron's jawline. "You could just...not go. Come with me instead."

But Aaron shook his head gently. "I can meet up with you later on in the summer?" He suggested instead. "Or you come meet up with me in Dublin. We could share a hotel room and I could show you around my hometown." This idea made Aaron smile a little. "A personal tour."

"Well, that was the plan wasn't it?" Kind of. Rolling through Europe with RJ on his dad's dime was kind of conditionally chaotic and unplanned. "But...how long will that be? I don't do well away from loved ones, you know. I haven't, ever...and I just don't want to be away from you for that long.

"That's what I mean. Come visit sooner. Stay longer. I can show you the whole city instead of just hitting the important touristy bits." He shrugged with one shoulder. "You'll survive without me. Get a cheap European phone and we can text wherever we are, whenever, anyway."

Jack sighed into Aaron's skin, shrugging noncommittally. "I mean, yeah. We can do that. But regardless...we're still going to be away from each other for a month or two. And you're going to be with Eoin. It's just..."

Aaron nodded. He understood. It wasn't as though he and Eoin didn't have a history. "We'll have to make up for it before and after, that's all."
