Toby meets Blaine's parents and is awkward forever!
Who: Toby and Blaine and Blaine's family!
What: Toby meets Blaine's parents and talk about adoptions. Hopefully.
Where: Blaine's house.
When: 4/23-24 (I think)
Rating: NSFW

For some reason, Blaine had let Toby drive. Possibly to save on gas money, possibly to make Toby feel less nervous. Because he was feeling very nervous about this. It wasn't every day that you get maybe adopted.

By the time they actually made it to Blaine's parents', Toby'd managed to get them lost for a extra hour despite Blaine giving him directions the whole time. "Aha!" Toby threw his hands in the air when they were parked. "I mean...sorry." he added.

"It's okay," Blaine said. "Just remember, this isn't an interview. It's a school break." He unbuckled and slipped out of the car, slinging his bag over his shoulder. "You really aren't allergic to animals, right?"

"Right. Riiiiight." Toby took a deep breath. He really wasn't ready for this. But Blaine was already out of the car. So. "Yeah. I have a cat at school. Which no one knows about, hopefully..."

"It's quite a zoo in there," Blaine said. Already, he could hear Chamber's deep, rolling barks. Chambers hadn't been a very vocal dog until Christmas, but now, every time he came home, the dog started barking. "Come on. It'll be okay. They'll love you."

"The animals or your parents?" Toby asked, following a step or two behind Blaine. "Do you know if your parents have heard from my 'parents' yet?" Toby accompanied the air quotes with a rather harsh sneer.

"Both," Blaine answered with a grin. "And those are Betsy and Blake's cars, so you're going to get almost everyone this weekend!" He headed up to the front door with a bounce in his step, pushing it open and darting inside quickly. "I'm hooome!"

Almost immediately, Blaine was slammed back against the wall by an enthusiastic giant dog, Chambers' tail wagging enthusiastically as he licked at his boy's face.

"Ohhhh geeze..." Toby nervously rubbed at the back of his head. "How many siblings do you even have...What're your parents' names again?"

Toby nearly had a heart attack when Blaine was attacked by a giant fluffy black dog/bear/thing. "Jeegus!"

"Three siblings, but Brandon lives in Washington state, so he won't be here," Blaine said, laughing as he ruffled Chamber's ears and nuzzled agaist his forehead. "Betsy is second oldest, and Blake is second youngest. Amanda and Adam are the parents, with 'Uncle' AFred. And this is my Chambers! Who's a good boy? You're a good boy! Yes you are!"

"Hello there!" Adam came out of the kitchen, grinning at the boys. "You must be Toby!"

"Three? Geeze..." Toby reached out cautiously to pet the back of Chambers' head. "He's pretty cute once you get over the giant-ness."

"Yeah, um...hi." Toby was waffling between sticking out his hand to shake Adam's or just to just stand there awkwardly. Or hugging. Hugging might also happen.

"Four if we count you..." Blaine said with a grin and a wink. "Chambers is just a giant puppy, really. I've had him ever since he was a puppy!"

"None of the animals here will hurt you without intense provocation," Adam assured Toby, cutting through the indescion to simply enfold Toby in a bear hug. "Welcome home, kiddo!" After Toby, Blaine got the same treatment, and then Adam was reaching for their bags. "Come on, come on, let me show you your rooms! Toby, we've put you in the attic guest room, but Betsy's offered to trade you if you'd rather be closer to Blaine."

"Wow..." Toby had been an only child. Having siblings would be awesome. And weird. But mostly awesome.

"Hah." Toby half-laughed nervously, "I'm not afraid of animals or any--" Suddenly he was being cut off by a giant hug that made his eyes water a little (that was totally why he was getting all misty-eyed, shut up). After getting a good breath of air in him, Toby followed Adam and Blaine inside. "Umm, not it's alright. I wouldn't want to displace anyone."

"We actually just didn't know how tall you were." Betsy had caught the tail end of the conversation and come over to greet the new boy. "Blaine said taller than he was, but everyone is taller than Blaine!"

Indeed, both Betsy and Adam towered over the youngest Jackson. Betsy was nearly six foot, and Adam had quite a few inches on her.

"I swear I'm part of this family," Blaine assured Toby, tossing his bag in his own room. "You should see my midget grandparents."

"I'm Betsy." Blaine's sister went for a hug-greeting too, beaming at Toby. "I am the keeper of this family's sanity."

Toby had to laugh a bit at that comment. Blaine's height wasn't exactly a favored topic at Dalton, but it still came up quite often.

Toby giggled at Blaine as well, "I'll believe that when I see it...If, I suppose."

"Oof...so many hugs!" Toby managed to recover soon enough to hug Betsy back before she let him go. "Sounds like a tough job! If not impossible."

"It is challenging," Betsy admitted, ruffling Toby's hair. "I hope you're not adverse to hugs. We give a lot. A lot."

"The poor boy hasn't even seen his room yet," Adam chided, squeezing Betsy in a one-armed hug just to prove her point. "Let's let him get settled in before we overwhelm him, eh?"

"Overwhelm with hugs? I don't think that's even possible." Toby grinned. He barely even remembered being nervous at this point.

"So it's not like...a terrifying, you're-going-to-get-murdered-here attic is it?" Toby asked as they approached the upper floor.

"Nah," Blaine said, leading the way up the stairs to open the door. "Just has sloped ceilings that might attack your head. But Rose managed to survive a couple nights up here, so you probably can too..."

"I'll let the others know you're here," Adam said, setting Toby's bag on his bed. "But we'll leave you alone until dinner. Let you get settled in a bit."

"Hm. Doesn't sound too bad. But I can blame any bad grades I get on your house, right?"

Toby nodded to Adam. "Alright, thanks."

Once everyone was gone from the room. Toby flopped back onto the bed to stare at the ceiling. Because that was always the best way to do your thinking. He'd only been here for a few minutes and already it felt way more like home than it ever had with his family. He wondered if his parents had responded to Blaine's at all, or were just giving them the same cold shoulder. He really hoped they had. He really hoped he'd never see his parents again. Which was just...depressing... Instead of dwelling, Toby pulled out his phone and started texting Xander to pass the time.

Blaine left for a bit, to unpack his own bag, but then he came back upstairs, tapping lightly on Toby's door. "How you doing?" he called through the wood, ruffling Chambers' ears (the big dog had come up with him.

Toby rolled off the bed when he heard someone knock. He opened up the door to let Blaine (and apparently Chambers) in. "I'm doing alright so far. Definitely not as bad as I thought it would be." Toby grinned at Blaine and patted Chambers so he wouldn't feel left out, "Though, are you sure you weren't adopted? 'cause you don't have an accent at all."

"Oh dahlin'," Blaine drawled, flopping on the bed and grinning at Toby. "I got an accent. I just choose not to use it..." He gave Toby a wink, reaching up to touch an imaginary hat brim.

Toby only didn't scream and run away out of sheer will. Still, he was probably giving Blaine a look of utter terror. "Wha-- How did you-- are you possessed?! With like...an accent...demon??"

Blaine laughed, shaking his head. "I'm born and raised Texan, Toby! But a southern accent... can give off the impression that you're an idiot. Just look at Bush. So, when I came to Dalton, I trained myself out of it. I slip up a bit if I'm around Jude too long, but for the most part, I've hidden that aspect of myself." He shrugged. "It's just part of being an actor."

"That's why you actors scare me...you can just change stuff and no one knows..." Toby shrugged, "And how do you not spend all of your time with Jude? Phil and I are almost attached at the hip. Unfortunately."

Toby sat down on the bed, nudging Blaine with his shoulder, "And your accent doesn't make you sound stupid."

"He has his own life," Blaine said with a shrug. "We're good friends, but we also move in different circles. It's part of the reason we've been able to work so well for so long, I think. I can't be the easiest to room with..."

When Toby complimented his accent, Blaine smiled. "Well, yeah, sometimes a southern drawl can be sexy. But I didn't want to be seen as anything resembling President Bush."

"Hmm I guess me and Phil do tend to like, play the same games and stuff. I'm sure there are worse people to room with...probably."

"Fair enough," Toby grinned back at Blaine, "Can't argue with the badness of Bush."

Dinner came around eventually, heralded first by the smells wafting up to the attic room where Blaine and Toby were, followed shortly thereafter by calls for food and one of the Jacksons pounding up the stairs to fetch the youngest boys. Blaine was already halfway down the stairs, though, following Chambers' eagerly wagging tail. Dinnertime meant food!

Toby was a bit further behind Blaine on the way down the stairs. He was pretty much used to a mad rush to food because it was bound to happen at an all-boys school, but Toby preferred waiting it out until later.

So once they were down in the kitchen (and it was a bitching kitchen, Toby would love to cook in here one day), Toby sat down at the table, waiting for everyone else to clear out before he got anything. It was probably the polite thing to do, anyways. At least, he hoped he was being polite.

"You must be Toby!" Amanda pulled Toby into a hug, pressing a kiss to the side of his head before taking her own seat. "It's so good to finally meet you!" She smiled brightly at the boys as she spread her napkin in her lap.

Blake was already at the table before Blaine and his new... friend, he supposed, had come down the stairs. He was kind of confused about where this whole adoption thing had come from, but he was mostly curious about meeting the kid.

Luckily (or unluckily for Toby), the boy sat down right next to Blake. Prime grilling range. "Blake," he said, giving Toby a brief one-armed hug. "I'd shake hands, but I think it's outlawed in the family."
