This was not going to be a fun meeting. Blaine massaged his temples after setting two cages down on the council table, offering the newest warblers for the newest Warblers a little smile. "Hey babies. You behave yourselves, okay?"

Hair still damp from showering after track, Benji lingered outside of the practice room, waiting for Vince before going inside. This was so cool, having him on the team now - Wednesdays usually kind of sucked, a little bit, because once classes got out, he didn't get to see the older boy until much later into the night. The excitement of that aside, he was curious about the meeting itself - Blaine hadn't addressed this 'seventeen members' thing at the previous day's rehearsal; Benji assumed they'd be going over it today, now that Leonard and Vince would actually be joining them.

To say Vince was nervous would be an understatement - the same could be said for disbelieving, or confused. He never expected his audition to be good, let alone good enough for him to get in. Obviously he wasn't the best. That freshman, Castiel, had convinced him of that in the comments of the announcement. But, somehow, he'd still made it.

Vince walked to the practice room, heart pounding. It slowed down considerably when he spotted Benji waiting for him, though - he had a way of replacing all of his feelings with happy, like some drug that you could take simply by viewing it. "H-hey!" He placed a hand on Benji's arm, kissing him. "Uh, how was your day?" Sometimes he felt like a husband coming home to his housewife - oddly, the feeling thrilled him.

The votes had to have been close, for Blaine and the council to have accepted both; it was sad to think that a few off hand comments had Vince doubting himself. They'd wanted a freshman to have a proper captain a few years down the road, so for all anyone other than those four knew, Vince could've gotten the higher vote, while Leonard was added for the sake of the freshman count. Both of their auditions had been amazing - the vote may have gone either way. Maybe Vince would realize that later on.

Lighting up with a smile at the sight of his boyfriend - one of his boyfriends, rather, - Benji returned the kiss gently, hoping to reassure the other boy. "Good," he replied easily, "Yours?" He paused before adding, "Don't be nervous, okay? You're here for a reason."

"All right." As the clock hands slid over to 6:30, Blaine got to his feet, smoothing out his trousers. "Let's get this show on the road. For starters, we'd like to welcome our two newest Warblers, Vince and Leonard." He swept out his hand toward the two new boys, offering them a warm smile. "Welcome to the Warblers, boys. You're lucky--we're delaying your hazing."

Jack pursed his lips, displeased but being quiet about it. He was tired dammit. They didn't even get into nationals fair and square. All he wanted to do was focus on getting done with academics before the summer was out and then relax, but Blaine was so type A, there was no way he'd do anything but go full throttle right up to NYC. Jack was tired of going full throttle. Not to mention, his once firm determination to be elected the prestigious position of Warbler Captain for next year was being marred recently by his fail popularity.

Besides, hazing was an important part of Warbler tradition and bonding. And Leo was cute. Hell, actually so was Vince. But Jack kept his opinions to himself.

Benji grinned over at Vince, giving his hand a light squeeze when Blaine welcomed him and Leonard into the group. He shot a glance towards the birds at the front of the room before looking at Blaine again, eyebrows raising a little in surprised. That made two traditions that they were abandoning now - what was going on? It didn't really take much time away from preparing for Nationals - and wasn't the theoretical point of the hazings to build a sense of belonging to the group?

	Raf had slid into the room a few minutes after 6.30, just as the new Warblers were officially welcomed. He had been distracted by Rent talk after Drama club had finished and was now forced to slide on to the arm of the nearest chair, his eyes immediately finding Ben and smiling over at him but, for once, he resisted the urge to make a scene. This was still beyond surreal for Vince. It was like a cross-section of everyone he knew in one room, people he didn't even connect with one another - seeing such random people like Jack, Ron, and Xander all in one place just confused him. This was it - suddenly, he was part of that group of kids that everyone at Dalton knew, whether they liked and cared or not at all. He'd met boys who were obsessed to a point of knowing as much as they could about every Warbler, and now he was one. But, wait, hazing? He knew that he was going to suddenly have a bird to deal with - he was used to seeing them, whether it was Benji's Pidwidgeon or Jack's whats-its-name, and he had a pretty good idea of how to take care of them. But, hazing? A lump formed in his throat as he forced out his thanks and stroked his boyfriend's hand with his thumb.

The Warblers aren’t Vocal Adrenaline. The Warblers aren’t Vocal Adrenaline… Leonard mentally repeated the words to himself over and over again like some kind of mantra. There were so many of them and Leonard was sure he didn’t know half of them. He had a hard enough time remembering the name of Cas’s roommate how was he ever going to remember all of them? What if he forgot their names? What if he choked? What if they realized halfway through practice that he was a terrible choice? A part of him was still wondering if he’d only been given the position because they needed a freshman. Was he their token freshman? That would hurt. He had hoped they saw something in him but if he was only there because they needed a freshman… Leonard bit the inside of his cheek in order to chase the negative thoughts away. He was stronger than these thoughts. He wasn’t anyone’s shadow anymore. What did it matter if he was the token freshman? He’d just work twice as hard and prove to everyone else that he belonged there. Turning his attention to Blaine and the other Warblers he smiled and managed a soft thank you. At least he wasn’t the only one that seemed nervous, that actually made things a little easier. In fact knowing that the other boy was— Wait. What had Blaine said about hazing?! Hazing was involved… and just what was the deal with the birds?

"Don't worry," Blaine said, more for the sake of the other Warblers than the newest two. "We will do it, either tomorrow or next week. With all the rush, though, and... other events, we didn't have time to pull something together for this meeting." His gaze fell on Leonard and Vince. "Until you've completed your orientation ordeal, though, you will not be considered full-fledged Warblers. Now, the first part. Which is usually the second, but we're getting all backwards today." Blaine picked up the two cages and crossed the room, giving one to Leonard and one to Vince. "Our oldest tradition for our newest members, actual warblers. These birds are members of an unbroken line of canaries that have been at Dalton since 1891. It is your jobs to take care of them, so that they may live to carry on the Warbler legacy. Leonard, yours is male, Vince, female. Protect them. These birds are your voices."

"Leo, Vince, one moment," Blaine said, calling out to the two new members as the others left. "It's not really very fitting for all the traditional speech, but if you swing by Mr. Holden's office, he can hook you up with bird food and stuff. Also let him know what you've named them. He's our faculty advisor, but really, his only job is to take care of the rest of the birds and track their lineage. We do encourage musical names, but there aren't any requirements. Mine's Domingo, Kurt's Pavarotti... Jack's is BAMF."
