Who: Skylar and Open Benji
Where: Roof
What: Well I had a dream I stood beneath an orange sky ~ AKA, Skylar's Humanity
When: Sunset
Rating: SFW

Tech had no idea how he found himself on the roof. He suppose it might have been because he was locked in his dorm all weekend working on a rather stubborn computer upgrade and it was time for a break. He guessed he just needed somewhere quiet to relax, he needed a place where nasty obstructions like buildings and telephone wires couldn't reach him. When he was on the roof, high above the world beneath him, he was allowed to separate himself from it. He could just be a passive observer as he watched students wander around the quad, singing, doing work, talking - he could look up and watch the orange bursts of light start to darken. Tech could just breathe.

The weather was still calling for that storm, so Benji really ought to have known better than to venture outside, but he'd found himself getting anxious just sitting in his room waiting for it to start. He hoped that his nerves would settle a bit if he could slip outside for a bit and have a moment or two alone. It wasn't supposed to hit for a few more hours, anyway. Figuring the 'alone' factor was more likely on the roof than somewhere at ground level, that's where he headed, letting out an almost relieved sigh as he stepped out of the stairwell.

He paused, spotting someone else on the roof and considering turning back; he didn't want to disrupt the other boy - provided he hadn't already.

The great thing about storms is the calm right before it. Tech didn't know what it was but he really enjoyed it. He took his glasses off and closed his eyes for a moment before he heard someone behind him.

"Oh, hey Benji." He greeted, he hadn't really seen the other boy around since the Del incident.

Smiling slightly as his registered who it was, Benji offered a small wave. "Hey, Sky," he greeted in returned. For some reason, he couldn't drop the habit of using Skylar's real name - he really hoped the other teen didn't mind. Benji took a step forward before thinking better of it and actually asking, "Mind if I join you?"

No one called him Skylar, let alone Sky, but Tech didn't really mind today. "Yeah sure," He replied, spreading his arms out wide, "Got plenty of space."

Tech had been feeling a bit strange for the last couple of days, and he couldn't pin point why. He was probably just tired or something, still, it made him a bit easier to talk to than usual.

"Thanks," he responded, approaching and then sitting down next to Skylar, not super close, but not miles away, either. Pulling his knees in toward his chest, he let his chin rest against them as he wrapped his arms loosely around his legs. Benji's opinions on the other teen had changed a lot over the course of the semester, so he didn't feel nearly as uncomfortable right now as he might've expected to.

"What brings you up here?" he asked, somewhat quietly. Benji didn't feel right disturbing the silence too much - and it wasn't like they were that far apart, anyway.

"I'm not really sure." He answered honestly, his volume low as well, "Just tired of being stuck inside I guess."

He let his eyes close as he relaxed next to the other boy. Usually in social situations, Tech was very much aware of all of his actions, everything he was saying, and the potential consequences of his actions, but right now he didn't really care. He'd think about all that stuff later, when the world started moving again.

"How about you?" he asked curiously, "You don't strike me as a rooftopper."

Benji nodded, accepting the other boy's answer as it was; he could hear the sincerity and there was no use prying into something that was already exposed. He cast a brief look over at Skylar, though, wondering if maybe there was something more weighing at his mind. He just seemed... subdued?

"Same, I guess," he mused, smirking slightly at Skylar's observation. "Got tired of sitting in my room, waiting for the first rolls of thunder," he explained further, glancing up at the sky - it still had that calmness that was so contradictory to what was coming.

"I hope the power doesn't go out." He frowned, his backup generators were low on juice from the last blackout. He had been much to busy to charge them. He supposed he could do it now but he didn't really feel like it.

"I haven't watched a storm in a while." Tech thought out loud, he hadn't really done a lot of things in a while.

Nodding again in agreement, Benji closed his eyes for a moment, "Me too." Outages sucked - and would no doubt make Skylar think of Del, given his roommate - former roommate's - distaste for darkness.

Benji looked over at the other teen, then, raising an eyebrow, "Isn't that a little dangerous, anyway?"

"I meant from a window." He grinned, rolling his eyes. "And it's best to watch them in the dark" Which meant he had to turn off the backup lights anyway. They were still set to turn on whenever someone walked in a room or when there was a power outage.

He probably wasn't going to change that.

"Have you never watched a storm?"

"Oh." Duh. "That makes more sense," he added, a light blush dusting over his cheeks from the misunderstanding. Shaking his head, he let his chin rest against his knees again, his fingers picking at a loose thread on his jeans. "No. I, um-" I have ligyrophobia that can trigger my anxiety "-I don't do so well with... loud noises," he admitted, "And, well, thunderstorms... yeah." He shrugged, glancing up again, "It sucks, cause it'd be cool to get some captures of lightening."

Tech snickered, he leaned back further so that he was lying down, folding his glasses on his chest. "You could take it one step at a time." There were ways to defeat phobias right? Although, he had never been one to encourage it because he knew how hard it could be. He never told Del to get a grip on his fear, he just tried to be considerate about it. He decided he'd extend the same courtesy to Benji "But don't worry about it too much, everyone takes pictures of lightening, you can be more creative than that."

"I've gotten better," he noted - though, not defensively, - and looked over at the sound of movement. "It started when I was eight. Now it's mostly just the storms, or anything really unexpected." He stopped when he realized that he was rambling. Watching the other boy for a moment, Benji gave a small smile - you know, Skylar was actually pretty alright. "Thanks. I guess that's a good point."

"Did something happen?" He asked, "Or is that like the earliest time you remember your fear?"

It was strange of him to pry, this type of conversation usually fell in the category in which Tech cared very little about unless he could use it to his advantage, which was why he felt a little uncomfortable asking. "Sorry, you don't have to answer that."

"No, it's alright," Benji responded, offering a reassuring smile. He was surprised Skylar was asking, but he didn't mind or anything. "I guess it's the earliest I remember," he mused, before confessing, "It's what caused the first attack we've been able to identify. I remember being edgy before that, but I don't know why it got worse." He hoped he wasn't boring the other teen; most people didn't like to be unexpectedly unloaded on.

"That sucks dude." He said simply, not really knowing what else he could say. Tech wasn't really afraid of anything, well he was afraid of things but he didn't have any kind of phobia so he didn't know how to relate, or even if he could relate. Things were never that bad with him. "What's important is that you're dealing with it now I guess."

Although he wasn't sure that was correct, he was pretty sure there was something about the root of the problem that people are always worried about.

Benji nodded slightly in agreement, moving his arms behind him, hands down against the rooftop to support himself as he leaned back and streatched his legs out. "Yeah, for sure."

He fell quiet for a long moment befor asking, "How are you doing, anyway?" It had to be weird for him; going from having a roommate to not and then repeating the process couldn't be that easy, given the circumstances. Especially when he'd been the one to find Del that day...

"I'm alright I guess." He shrugged, he had a feeling Benji was referring to Del, but he kept his answer general anyway. Despite this, he did add, "It's just quiet."

Ever since break, there was a decline in energy and excitement, and being without a roommate made his room pretty much silent aside from the whirring from his servers. Most of the time, Tech liked the quiet, but he was just starting to get used to Del's chatterbox tendencies. He let out a sigh. "How about you?"

Benji's eyes took on a bit more concern at Skylar's response - 'I guess,' especially coming from someone as private as him, just seemed a bit telling. "He's always been a talker," he agreed, a rather fond smile replacing his concerned frown for a moment. "You can always come knocking, if the silence gets too much," he offered after another moment, unsure of how it would be recieved, "You know, if you ever want to."

His smile faded a little at the sigh, and Benji shrugged. "Better," he admitted, giving a small sigh of his own. "I miss him, though."

"Thanks." Tech said, he appreciated the offer, but he probably wasn't going to take him up on it. He wasn't going to say that though, and he had an inkling Benji probably knew it wasn't ever going to happen. It was like they were being polite, saying things the other wanted to hear, and maybe that's what he needed. Still, if Tech ever did go knocking on the boy's door, he knew he would not be turned away, the situation was just unlikely.

"You know..." Tech started, "I really didn't know - don't know anything about Del's relationships with others. What did you guys like do? Or talk about?"

Benji did know that, but he still meant it on the off chance that Skylar ever accepted. "You're welcome," he responded, giving the other boy a slight smile. He wasn't even sure if Skylar knew where his room was, but then he realized that he must - he'd delivered that note from Del, after all.

Cuddle. Make-out. A blush dusted across Benji's cheeks at the answers his mind jumped to - there wasn't really any place for them, now. "We didn't... see each other as much, after he woke up," Benji confessed sadly - almost guiltily. "But we used to spend... a lot of time together. We went on a lot of coffee da-breaks, ran together. Sometimes we'd just play music." A smile came to his face at the memories, "I dunno if you ever caught Del singing, but he's got a great voice. Really... unique."

Tech didn't miss the blush. He smirked a bit to himself, it would have been nice to go back to his room and tease the shit out of Del but he wasn't going to dwell on that.

"Are you kidding me?" He scoffed, "He couldn't stop singing." Not that Tech minded all that much, he really didn't mind anything Del did so long as he wasn't playing with his stuff.

"So what happened when he woke up? Why wasn't it the same?"

Benji grinned at that, "He's great, right?" He honestly believed that, too. Maybe he was biased or something, but he loved Del's voice. He hesitated or a moment; he hadn't intended for this to turn into a 'let me unload all of my Del problems on you.' Skylar probably had his own things to sort through - why else would he have sought out this level of solitude? Then again, he was also the type who probably wouldn't have hesitated to tell Benji to shut up if he really wasn't interested...

"He, uh." Biting his lip, Benji considered how best to word things. "The things he forgot made it... hard to be around him," he finally answered. Between their lack of closure, not wanting to be the one to force Del to confront his sexuality again, and his return having been so closed timed to when Benji and Vince began seeing each other, it had just been a difficult situation to navigate.

"I'll tell you this much, he's one of the singers in this school that I don't mind when they randomly burst out in song." Going to a school that had such a huge Warbler influence meant a lot of singing everywhere and anywhere. It could seriously get on his nerves, but Del he didn't mind.

Tech pursed his lips and nodded, getting the picture.

"Do you regret it?"

Benji probably could've stopped to wonder if he should be offended by that, but he didn't. He knew that some people weren't that fond of the Warblers, and that was okay. To each their own, right? "I'm glad," he replied, turning his gaze to the sky again, "I think there's just something captivating about his voice. You can't really be bothered by it."

"Not spending more time with him?" Closing his eyes, he sighed softly, "Yes. Especially now." He chewed his lip nervously for a moment before adding, "I just... took for granted that he was awake, I guess. Thought he'd still be here next year, once we'd both adjusted more to how everything had changed."

It wasn't the Warblers he had a problem with. No, the Warblers were very talented, he knew this, even though he didn't make any effort to watch their performances, it was the people who wanted to be a Warbler he couldn't stand. "It's got heart." Tech mused, "Fitting for a guy like Del."

Tech took a moment to respond, "He cared about you." He said honestly, "I mean, Del cared about everybody, but you were different." Del hadn't told him that specifically but Tech knew, everyone that had received a letter effected Del deeply in a way most people didn't.

Poor bastard.

Tech kept his own letter buried deep within a mountain stack of paperwork, just to convince himself he didn't care.

"He didn't - he didn't say anything specifically." He stated before Benji could ask, "But he didn't need to."

Benji just nodded again, pleased that they were on the same page. "Yeah, that's exactly it." He wasn't sure he'd ever met anyone with as much heart as Del.

Looking over, he gave Skylar a look that was a mix of confusion and curiosity. He knew that, of course - it was heavily implied in the letter Del had left him - but it was nice to hear. Benji looked away again when he felt his eyes misting over. "Thanks," he murmured, cracking a small smile. "He liked you too, you know," he added after a moment, "Said he had respect for you." His smile widened a bit as he glanced at Skylar again, "And Del's a pretty good judge of character."

Tech didn't respond. He never really understood why Del kept hanging around with him, he and Del were at different ends of the spectrum morally and Del really cared about people, Tech didn't.

The storm was moving closer. It was getting darker and he knew Benji wouldn't want to stay out for long.

"It's getting closer." He pointed out at the clouds looming closer.

Sometimes opposits were just attracted to each other, and maybe with someone like Del - someone who generally liked everyone - that got a little magnified. Or maybe Skylar was just a lot better than he gave himself credit for. A little bit of all of it, most likely. But Benji wasn't going to press; he'd said his bit and it was Skylar's place to decide what he thought about it. Instead he let his gaze follow to where the other boy was pointing. "Yeah..." he agreed, biting at his lip for a moment before adding, "We should go inside soon. Or, uh. Sorry, I don't mean you have to go just yet if you don't want to but you probably shouldn't be here as it gets too close, either." He was rambling now, wasn't he? "...Sorry."

((ooc: I'm an idiot that fucked up my own canon. When Benji said he was eight when everything started, it should actually be seven. He was ALMOST eight, not actually eight. Whoops. /really belated failnotice))

"It's okay." He told Benji, it looked like his companion was starting to get nervous. "I was going to go inside anyway."

He had enough of the roof for one day he supposed. Benji seemed really cool, it was nice to just talk for a while. He should probably do that more.

Tech stood up and extended his hand to Benji.

He was starting to get nervous, but he couldn't really help it. And it was probably for the best that he knew how close it was - it helped him to piece together a more accurate timeframe. With a sheepish smile, Benji glanced up at the other teen and took the offered hand, using it as leverage to stand up, "Thanks." He brushed his pants off, casting one last look up at the sky before returning his attention to Skylar, "And thanks for not telling me to get lost or something."

It wasn't so much rudeness as Benji understanding that sometimes people just really wanted to be alone. Anyway. Skylar seemed genuinely fine with it and Benji had enjoyed his company, so there wasn't much of a point in dwelling on that. "Anytime," he replied, smiling a little wider as he started towards the stairwell, glancing back to make sure Skylar was following.

Tech gave the sky a final glance, before sighing and following Benji back into the building. He didn't do much today but he was tired, he guessed that's what happened when you weren't used to conversations like the one he just had with Benji. It was emotionally taxing, and it was strange. He kind of wanted to sleep the rest of the night away.
