How the hell had this happened?

He'd just showed up at Aaron's for some chillout time, pretty much the first time they'd hung out without an agenda since the Ted incident. He'd brought pizza while he was at it, revelling in the newfound ability to buy little things like that - he was still working long hours, but now, with his da back and earning off the media coverage, only half his money was going back to Ireland - and they'd eaten it, and chatted, and caught up. And they'd got onto Aaron's threesome (which Eoin couldn't help thinking showed pretty poor taste in sexual partners - Jack and Colby? Really?), which Eoin hadn't actually known about, and then...

Well, what the hell had happened then, besides his brain shutting off? And how the hell had they ended up kissing?

Not that he was really, honestly complaining.

"Are you sure about that?"

There was so much about those few sentences that Aaron wanted to argue, it threatened to all explode out at once.

"First and foremost: people break up all the time, that doesn't make you a shitty boyfriend. I saw you with him, trust me, you were fine. You just weren't so fine for each other, that's all." He realised as he spoke those last few words that that might be overstepping, but they'd come out in a slight rush, before pros and cons of each word could be weighed like they normally were. He went on anyway, though he had to swallow before going on.

"Secondly, even if you are a shitty boyfriend? I'm okay with that. I want to give it a go anyway. We can't just not do it because you think it might not go well." That was ridiculous. Right?

"And lastly, and perhaps most importantly: you're letting your ex determine who and when you date again?"

That last sentence came with one hell of a Look. Aaron's heart thudded in his chest.

	"Yes," Eoin said flatly, meeting Aaron's eyes. "Because he's not a strong guy, and I've hurt him enough lately. Just because it broke down doesn't mean I don't still care about him. Aaron sighed. "I think you were. That's the point.

"I mean, I saw you with him," he said. His eyes were somewhere at Eoin's shoulder. "You did brilliantly. Just because you couldn't be exactly what he needed all the time doesn't change that, all right? You surprised me with him in a lot of ways."

He shut down that particular train of thought. It could lead down dangerous paths. Best stick with this, and the fact that exes should never have any sway on who anyone dates or doesn't date.

"Whether you date me is between you and me. No one else." Eoin had to get this. So Aaron could have his chance. "Your ex is never going to be happy knowing you're dating anyone. Does that mean you should never date again? Of course not. If you want to wait until it will no longer hurt Rome that you're with someone, you'll be waiting forever. And I can't wait forever for you."

It just came out, that last bit, pretty much by itself. For the first time since they kissed, he thought just momentarily of Jack.
