Who: GI and Alphonse
What: They Discuss Deep Things
Where: In the Library
When: Tuesday, February 8th, evening/night
Rating: SFW

GI had been in the library for... Well, he'd gone straight there after Film Studies, and it was now going on 6:30 or 7:00-- which added up to four hours of non-stop studying for absolutely nothing at all. Gavin had no tests or papers coming up that required his attention, but the study session made it so that he could use the "I can't, I'm studying" excuse without feeling guilty for lying to whichever friend had taken the time to try to drag him out to do something.

Even so, Gavin would've been lying; he wasn't studying. Around 6:00 he'd fallen asleep on his book, drooling onto the words about Politics that he'd read so many times before.

About ready to pack up his paperwork and leave the library - but not without bidding Eric farewell - Alphonse passed by a student with his face buried in a book. He paused and placed a hand on the boy's student, attempting to shake him awake.

Gavin had gone the entire night before without sleeping-- it would take much more than a light shove to rouse the boy out of his near-coma. It was unlike him to pull all-nighters, so his body made up for it by crashing hard whenever he did so.

Alphonse attempted another shake. Nothing. He glanced around for a moment, thinking that perhaps the student had come in with a friend. Seeing no one else, he tried yet again to wake the boy up.

As the shaking progressed, Gavin began to slowly come to his senses. "Levi Strauss was one of my best friends!" Gavin blurted, although he immediately wondered why he did so. Wait... He knew those words.

"Last words of Herbert Hoover, the 31st President of the United States." Gavin said more to himself than anyone else-- he still hadn't realized Mr. Kirkland was there. "Oh." He said quietly once he realized who had shaken him awake.

Bemused, Alphonse took a slight step back and nodded. "Impressive bit of trivia." After allowing the student a moment to regain his bearings, Alphonse offered his hand. "I thought I'd kill two birds with one stone: Make a new acquaintance and salvage the book beneath you."

"Gavin Sinclair." Gavin introduced himself, forgoing Mr. Kirkland's hand to instead wipe the saliva off of his book with his sleeve, frowning as if he were trying to wipe an accidental paint smear off of a piece of art in the Louvre. "It's only politics, anyways."

"A pleasure." He retracted his hand and eyed the clock before checking his watch, noting that one was faster than the other. "You've an interest in politics?"

"I have an interest in everything." Gavin replied with a shrug. "I study politics because it's important to be informed about what's going on in the world and how it all works." He shifted the book off the table placing it into his bag and turning to look up at Mr. Kirkland. "I like to be informed."

Alphonse nodded with a hint of respect. "That it is. From what I know, though, such an interest doesn't often develop so soon. If I may, you're a step ahead of your peers." He smiled yet again. "Perhaps we may speak of such topics later."

"Thank you, sir." Honestly, Gavin was nervous about the idea of being in a casual conversation with the Vice Principal of the school, especially with all the nonsense that had been going on recently with the room raiding.

"I like to think of myself as well-rounded."
