WHO: Demelza Robins, Theodore Nott
WHEN: 14th November, 2001
WHERE: Demelza and Llew's
WHAT: Demelza annoyed Theodore. Theodore gave her one of those sweets.
RATING: PG-13
WARNING: Language
STATUS: Private/Complete

The overwhelming euphoria that had invaded her senses post sampling the sweet that Theodore had passed her whilst she teased him over that silly nickname Llew came up with a had finally subsided and given way to a very relaxing sensation. That had felt good. So good. It was a feeling she hadn't experienced in a while - not since-

Demelza suddenly turned a very bright red as she formed an understanding of the implications of what had just occured. Her eyes grew wider and her hands flew to cover her gaping mouth in shock. Oh my god, was about all her brain seemed capable of managing. Oh my god, oh my god, oh my-

"YOU BASTARD!" It seemed that the embarrassment of having an orgasm in front of Theodore Nott had not chased her voice away entirely. "What the fuck did you just GIVE ME?"

Theodore hated being called 'Teddy'. It was horribly degrading and completely disrespectful, and although he had originally planned to target Llewellyn with his new purchases (in the event that he had been home), Demelza had managed to join in on the irritating little name game and had earned herself an embarrassing sweet. The result itself had been... awkward. Theodore watched the entire scene play out with a big, self-satisfied smirk, and with surprisingly little regret or remorse. If he was going to feel extremely annoyed, she was going to get hers. The entire mean prank made an unsettling amount of sense to him at the time.

"Demelza Robins. I don't think I've ever heard you swear," Theodore responded annoyingly, leaning back into the couch he was lounging on and crossing his arms. He was trying very hard to remain as mentally separated from this incident as he could, because anything else would just come off... creepy. She was going to be disgusted with him enough as it was. No. He had not taken inappropriate pleasure in watching that. It was just a prank. A wonderfully embarrassing prank. "I just gave you a candy, and apparently, you really enjoyed it."

Oh, so he just going to sit there aggravatingly with his big fat stupid smirk stretched all the across his stupid face, now, was he? Well that was just bloody perfect. Somewhere at the back of her mind, she sensed that she was allowing him to wind her up - but, she didn't care.

"Oh, just-" she didn't have the words to finish that sentence. Giving up on the route, then, she snatched up one of the cushions she'd brought with her to the cottage when she'd moved in and threw it at his stupid, stupid self. "Fuck you. That was low and uncalled for and you're such a prat!" She didn't really know where she was going with the insults either.

Theodore choked back a laugh, his reflexes working to block the pillow throw and catch just before it hit his face. He held the pillow to his chest and continued to grin at her, meanwhile getting a sickening sort of rush from Demelza's obvious distress. Merlin, when she freaked out, she really freaked out. Gryffidors were so amusingly passionate, and Demelza was certainly no exception. She tended to get ranty and flustered when Theodore did something to piss her off.

"Please. You called me by that dreadful name and I gave you an orgasm. You should be thanking me," Theodore replied, the pillow still clutched tightly in front of him so he was ready to shield himself in the case that she threw something once more. He kind of hoped that she would. This was exactly the reaction he had been looking for. "So you're welcome, Demelza."

Okay, so throwing a pillow at him wasn't bright. One, it wasn't going to do any damage. And two, he apparently did know how to catch after all. There was a bowl of smarties on the coffee table - but she wasn't going to throw that at him. Except it would go very nicely in his hair and that would annoy him. Anything to get him back, right? She gathered a small handful and flicked the lot at him. She'd clean it up later, and hopefully Llew wouldn't get too annoyed. She didn't think he would. Not after she relayed the story to him. He probably would pay her out for not having thrown something heavier - but thing was, and this is what grated against her sensibilities, she didn't actually want to hurt Theodore.

"You..." She stopped. All she could hear was 'I gave you an orgasm'. And turned bright red again. "Do you have any idea how that SOUNDS?!" she demanded, still flustered.

Theodore didn't respond for a moment, he was instead too busy picking some sort of candy off of his shirt and seat. He'd never seen it before, so he assumed that it was Muggle, and after taste-testing one that had landed on his shirt, he had discovered that there was chocolate on the inside. Well, that was going to melt right into the couch if he sat on it. Making a face (and a very prissy one at that), Theodore stood from his seat. He dropped the pillow onto the couch and started to brush down the front of himself, pulling his shirt away from his body to make sure that nothing was stuck underneath it.

"Well, no one is listening. I could say something like "Demelza. That was the shag of a lifetime." and no one would know," Theodore replied, raising his eyebrows at her before turning to shoot a weary look at the couch. It was covered in candy.

"Well, you leave me no choice," Theodore stated a moment later, his eyes flashing a little bit with inner glee as he turned back to his infuriated friend and walked towards the couch she was sitting on. He plopped down beside her, sitting a little stiffly in order to keep his guard up. He was worried she was going to hit him. "We're going to have to sit nice and close."

The image of Theodore carefully brushing off all the smarties was both mildly amusing and somewhat mollifying. But Demelza wasn't just ready to lay down arms just yet. Oh, no. There was a lot of fight left in her now that she was wound up, and as soon as he was done trying to clear up she could just as easily peg the rest of the contents of the bowl in front of her at him. And of course, remember not to eat anything he offered her afterwards.

"That isn't the point. And I hope you don't say that, because it's weird," she replied, not caring if it made sense or not. She turned her attention away from him and fixed it upon the smarties in the bowl. Was the cost of attempting to annoy him by throwing chocolate at him really worth losing said chocolate? She couldn't decide.

However, logic suddenly did seem to bear weight in her world when she was suddenly confronted with him sitting right next to her - WHAT? For a moment, she couldn't help but stare. But this moment did not last too long. With a deft movement, she hit him. Hard. "What is WRONG with you?" she demanded. "No, really? Because this? Whatever this is? Not funny! Incredibly strange and annoying and-"

No. She was not going to voice the thought that just entered her head.

"Nevermind."

Theodore winced and leaned away from her 'abuse', covering the spot on his arm instinctively after receiving the blow. She could actually hit impressively hard. You know, for a girl. It must have been from all of that Quidditch practice and having to hold herself up on the broom, or catching the ball.... or whatever she did. It was really sad that they'd been friends for this long and he'd taken so little interest in her profession. He was a horrible friend, wasn't he? Well. The day he crowded onto the bleachers with a bunch of screaming, pathetic Quidditch fans was the day that he became way too committed.

"Never mind?" Theodore replied at once, his brows rising a bit in interest when Demelza's rant had ended. He was rubbing his arm quite obviously - looking to get some undeserved pity, mostly. "Does my siting here make you uncomfortable? Because you covered my seat in chocolate treats. I don't see any other option."

"Oh, you're such a baby," she decided, rolling her eyes a little bit as he fished for sympathy. She was, admittedly, a little naive. But not that naive, Godric! Still, as he continued rubbing the spot where she'd hit him, her hard edge began to slip and she began to feel bad for hitting him so hard. Maybe she didn't have to pack that much force into it. "Sorry," she offered quietly, avoiding eye contact.

"And, yes. Never mind. It's not a very hard concept, you know." It was a good thing she wasn't looking at him. "No. Ye- No. I don't know." She crossed her arms. This was ridiculous.

Theodore did his best not to look too pleased when Demelza apologised, but his hand did drop from his arm, because there was no point in milking it anymore. This entire situation was too fun for him, really. He just loved having the 'upper hand'. What he had done was cruel, but he stuck to the belief that he was a good person for giving the candy to her in private. At least she hadn't embarrassed herself in front of a group of people or something, right? Yes, right. He was a good person.

"Tell me why you said never mind," Theodore continued, turning a bit on the couch so he was at least half-facing Demelza. He tilted his head a bit and searched for her eyes, for some reason not feeling particularly awkward about being pushy and demanding. Demelza really put Theodore at ease. She was just so terribly genuine and refreshing, and he didn't feel the least be intimidated by her. It was nice. "And what?"

She took her time responding. Not because she was deliberately trying to be difficult, but because she really didn't know exactly how to form anything that rose to mind into words that weren't dramatically embarrassing. "Theodore. That's not 'neverminding'," she pointed out and hoped that he'd leave it there. She chanced the moment to look at him. Wait. Bad move. "But if you have to know," she heard herself begin, "It's just that what I was going to say was stupid and didn't really make much sense, kind of like what I'm saying right now. And you know what? It'd be really nice of you to say, 'Hey, Demelza? Shut up' right about now - because that'd just make this whole conversation that much less painful."

"And," she finally managed to get herself to pause and took this as an opportunity to rub her head. "You ask way too many questions."

"Shut up, Demelza," Theodore replied, purposely too late just so it came off annoying. He was on a roll today, but to be honest, he was starting to feel a little bad. She was coming down off of her intense emotion phase, and now seemed to be simply flustered and full of shame. That really hadn't been Theodore's goal, so it was time to change his tune. That was going to be head, too, considering how pleased he was for 'getting her' on this one.

"You made it painful, you know. I can't be blamed for that. Besides, you always ask too many questions. I'm getting you back," Theodore told the girl, sitting back in his seat now and giving her a bit of space. He had no idea what she was rambling about, but he was starting to think that maybe he'd dwelled on the 'never mind' too much. She could have very well lost track of her thoughts. Theodore often did, after all. "How long are you going to be mad at me?"

She shot Theodore a Look that indicated just how much she appreciated his delayed response. Oh, she knew he'd done it on purpose alright, she wasn't giving him the benefit of doubt on that one. "You're so hilarious," was all she would say on the matter.

"And I can't say," she replied in regards to his question. "You told me to shut up." And shrugged. The way he'd asked it felt condescending and wasn't soothe her already irked state. Or maybe she was just emotionally too wound up and acting far too defensive. Demelza decided now would be a good time to take a deep breath and calm down, before she said something uncalled for that she didn't actually mean.

Theodore pursed his lips about, allowing a bit of a silence to fall as he forced himself (with great restraint) to start being nice from this point on. Demelza was mad and he could almost feel the cold shoulder coming on. He hated it when women did that to him. It was so unfair, and it forced him to make all of the conversation, which he wasn't good at doing. Not at all.

"You know, I was madly in love with you. That's still more embarrassing," Theodore managed, feeling his stomach sink a bit with the mere mention of that stupid love potion. He had acted like such a twit. He just hoped that Demelza appreciated him bringing it up to make her feel better. In fact, he couldn't believe he was doing this. He was a fool. "Isn't it?"

Wait - he was mentioning it? She turned a little to look at him properly and peered up at him with a degree of caution. Usually when things happened, she was accustomed to the people around her never bringing it up ever again. It seemed to be how she and Llew dealt with the relationship before she'd gone away to Switzerland. It was just never mentioned. Ever. Again. And in some ways, she wasn't sure if that was the best road - even if they'd managed to slip back into a comfortable friendship once more.

"I suppose it is," she mused, lowering her gaze. "But I didn't ever mean to give you a muffin spiked with a love potion. And," she allowed herself a small smile. "I should probably be more affronted you found being madly in love with me so horribly embarrassing. And anyway, I fell in love with Cormac McLaggen. Really, is there anything worse than that?"

Theodore wrinkled his nose a bit, turning to look at the girl again and watching her as though terribly confused. Why was she so quick to forgive? He could give her a candy that brought her to very inappropriate climax, and somehow, she could be smiling and actually reassuring him a minute later. It wasn't that he disliked this quality - no, he certainly did not. He just didn't understand it. Where was the motivation for being so pleasant? Where did it get her? This was the part of Demelza that he couldn't quite figure out. He certainly wasn't used to people like her.

"I'm glad it was you," Theodore stated honestly, diverting his eyes now and neutralizing his expression to the best of his ability. That was an awkward thing to say, and he knew it, but he was going somewhere with this. Besides, he liked it when she smiled. Sure, he enjoyed sending her into fits, too, but he didn't like it when the bitterness lingered. It didn't really benefit him. "You're understanding. And you were nice about it. And you're a woman, so I didn't have to deal with suddenly enjoying... males."

Demelza smiled again. For some reason, that she wasn't exactly prepared to analyse or admit right at this moment, she was glad to hear it. And not in that relieved 'well, thank Merlin he didn't absolutely hate it' manner either. She wasn't exactly a vain creature, far from it, but his comment certainly didn't make her feel uncomfortable. "Well, if it had to be anyone to fall in love with me for a week, I'm glad it was you. Besides, I got Poppy out of it," she reminded him, shifting into a more relaxed position on the couch they now shared.

"I may have been given advice to buy you a puppy," Theodore admitted, wincing a bit even as he said the words and staring down at his hands. He fiddled with them, running his thumb over the inside of his palm while recalling that horribly embarrassing journal entry that had been hexed to the female population. He had an excuse for behaving so ridiculously, but in any event, he still hopped that the potion wasn't a foreshadow into the behaviour he would normally express while in love. He wasn't equipped to handle such shamelessness.

"I hexed an entry to all of the girls, and they told me how to impress women," Theodore admitted, his mouth just running now as he continued to give up embarrassing information. Demelza was awfully trustworthy, and after seeing her a) in her underpants and b) experience an orgasm, he didn't feel as though there was an unfortunate situation that he couldn't bring up. She wasn't the type to tell everyone, right? Besides, everyone else with breasts had read Theodore's stupid entry. "It wasn't my... most brilliant move."

She couldn't help it. Demelza had to laugh. Even if it was soft, and she felt the need to apologise almost straight away, it was basically unavoidable. "Well, at least you asked the girls, right? I mean, I hate to imagine what you might have given me if you'd asked just any other man. Forget that, I'd hate to imagine what would have happened to you had you gotten it into your head to ask Trystan."

She sighed and looked across at him. "Why are you telling me all this?" she queried in a genuinely curious tone. He could have stopped a while ago. It was enough to hear him admit his own embarrassment with having fallen in love with her and she'd forgiven him for the stupid orgasm. Okay, so, it was still a caustic thing to do. But she could get over it. He hadn't hurt her. Just her pride.

"I... don't know," Theodore replied, and really, there were many reasons he shouldn't have been telling her all of these things. He knew that he trusted Demelza and could partly rationalize the conversation in his head, but he couldn't really explain why he was initiating this awkward talk. Perhaps it was nice to get things off his chest? Demelza was taking it all extremely well. In fact, Theodore was positive that if anyone had fallen in love with him that week and actually expressed it, he wouldn't have easily gotten over it. It would have creeped him out. Demelza was taking it all in stride, and he was very relieved.

"I mean, all of the girls know anyway. You were going to find out from someone," He told her, going with his earlier logic and shrugging off the question. He was very worried that this conversation might get even more serious and awkward than it already was. He wasn't really sure how they had gotten from him pranking her to this, but he was fairly certain that it had been his fault either way. He was mentally noting that Demelza seemed to like serious conversations. Perhaps he would use that tactic the next time he pissed her off...

Ah, and there was the answer. Theodore had brought all of this up to make Demelza feel better. Well! He wasn't about to admit to that. Not even a chance. "I've always been told that girls talk a lot to each other."

"I guess we do," she agreed slowly, and then wondered why someone hadn't told her already. Because he'd made them promise and they'd actually decided to abide by the promise? In her experience, that was a rare occasion. But who knew, maybe the fact that the whole muffin affair had sent most people afflicted into a course of self-absorbed pity over having fallen in love with people they wouldn't ordinarily love meant that no one had bothered caring enough. Anyway, it seemed preferable hearing it all from him than from someone else. At least they could deal with all the awkwardness right here and now, yes? Yes.

"But anyway, I like Poppy. I'm glad you gave her to me, muffin or no muffin. And you know, I nearly called her that. But I decided against it."

"You nearly called her Muffin? That's just mean," Theodore replied, his face melting into a fairly easy smile now. That sort of relaxed, happy expression wasn't common for him. He was fairly frowny or neutral most of the time, and during interaction with others, he tended take on more malicious expressions. It was completely unintentional, but Theodore was a prissy, condescending arse by nature. It was one of those unpleasant familial traits that had been passed down through the generations. Theodore was really just lucky that he didn't pull it all off quite as well as his father did.

"Do you think I have good taste in dogs?" Theodore asked next, shooting a glance sideways and lifting his brows expectedly at his friend. "Not that it's 'my taste', per se, but I attempted to choose an animal that a woman could not refuse. Impressive judgment, yes?"

"It would have been perfect!" she protested with a grin. "But yes, mean. And I don't think I could be mean to her, she's too cute." The dog in question was asleep in her basket somewhere in Demelza's bedroom at this present moment where the door was mercifully closed to prevent Marlowe from getting in.

She considered Theodore's question. "For any woman to refuse? I can't be sure. I'm not exactly like everyone else," she confessed. "But it worked on me, so you can take that as a good sign?"

"I just know you too well," Theodore bluffed, leaning forward now to rest his elbows on his knees. It was a deliberate move - he wanted more candy. Muggle candy may have been boring without magic, but it was still tasty. Grabbing a small handful, Theodore popped a few candies in his mouth while glancing across the way at the couch Demelza had covered in sweets during her outburst. She had made quite the mess.

"Think of how many of these you wasted," Theodore spoke after a short pause, leaning back in his seat and opening his palm to share. "Don't let the puppy find those. I've heard that chocolate harms dogs."

She didn't believe that. They'd only been friends for a couple of months. "Yes, that must be it exactly," she replied, rolling her eyes a little bit before leaning towards him to claim some of the smarties he was sharing.

"Don't worry, I'll clean it up. I wouldn't have had to have wasted any if you weren't being such a prat, you know. So I blame you entirely. All your fault," she determined with an impish grin.

"And yet, here we are. You're eating out of the palm of my hand again," Theodore replied, lifting a brow at the girl and, just to be an arse, snapping his hand shut on her finger as she tried to collect a candy. Things seemed to be completely back to normal again, and really, Theodore was lucky. Most other women would have made him pay for his actions in some unfortunate way. It was no wonder that the two of them somehow managed to get along - Demelza continued to give Theodore chances that others did not afford to him, and in doing so, she got to see some of his better sides.

"I'll stop," He promised immediately after, pinching three between his fingers now and reaching over to hand them directly to the girl. "I think it's time for me to start being nice."
