Why must we all suffer because of one Slytherin's mistake?  I do not want Professor Kettleburn reading the letters I send home or inspecting the care packages my parents send me.  It hardly seems fair that we're all made to pay for her transgressions.

Perhaps members of Slytherin should take responsibility for the evil they spread in that house. Maybe this will wake people up that their actions are not appropriate.

It hardly seems fair that you blame every Slytherin for one's action. Surely not all of them "spread evil"?

Right, because that was the only action Slytherin has taken recently that one could hold issue with.

Painting a swath of blame or innocence in either direction isn't the solution here. I merely suggested that not all of them were guilty of such atrocities.

So I suppose you think we should do away with House points at all? The entire point is to socially condition us through using a punishment/reward that effects the whole house. If one person acts poorly it reflects on all. Instead of whinging about how unfair it is, perhaps you should take it upon yourself to speak out about how awful that person acted and ensure it never happens again.

I am not a Slytherin at all. Hence my original post, which simply complained about the owl post restriction for all houses, including my own. It had nothing to do with house points. Never mind that it seems a bit ludicrous to suggest that any one of us could have single-handedly stopped the attacks.

Something like that only happens when students think they can get away with it.

Hopefully now they won't think that.

Because like it or not, we are a community, and the actions of one effect us all.

We are not all rewarded when some among us do well, yet we are all punished for others' wrongdoings.

When one of us does well, we all do better. That's what living in a community is, Anonymous.
