part 7.
the siege, day 7. | ||||
With the effects of the sickness kept at bay, the mustering forces both outside and within face day seven of the siege with a sense of grim determination. Everyone gathers what weapons they have and assemble on the quad around noon as directed by Colonel Sink. For a few precious moments, it is quiet. And then they hear the rumble of tens, maybe even hundreds of footsteps. The sun is high, and the battle is nigh. The two opposing lines stare each other down. The enemy is faceless and uniform, ready and poised. Camulus is battered, worn, but equally ready to draw blood during this final fight, this last stand. A moment to stare, and then the clash begins. In a fury, Camulus shows their mettle--this is what they were trained to do. Individually, they are ruthless; they have lost too much to just sit back and take it any longer. Any pent up anger, sadness, fear coalesced and they gave the shadow soldiers hell as a collective, like one large, powerhouse monstrosity, bent on destroying any and all enemy soldiers that crossed their path. But the enemy are many, and no matter how many the students and mentors collectively take down, more seem to spring up in their place. During the battle, many sustain injuries, but Rafe Vuille and Krysta Maes perish heroically in the heat of battle. [NARRATIVES FORTHCOMING] As the battle reaches a fever pitch, the dark force field around them shatters like glass with a loud crash and disappears. Within seconds, the battlefield is alight with artillery fire from the US troops and with the raging powers of Axiom forces. And then from above, Master Yi appears. The shadow soldiers are obliterated with a blink of an eye and a flash of a light. And everyone is left surveying the damage. The sickness has abated with the disappearance of the force field, but those who sustained fresh injuries are rushed away by Axiom agents to a set of portable obelisks. The siege has come to an end. |
