Valentine's Day Masquerade / Fri February 15th 2008, 6:59pm / CHS Gymnasium / Open
A line of students stood outside of the gymnasium, stretching all the way out the front doors. A warm midwinter tropic breeze ruffled masks and gowns as the students waiting outside anxiously tried to see what was going on inside. In front of the gymnasium double doors was a long table with their matchmaker hearts. Each student was given the heart with their name and their date's name. Once inside, the challenge was to find their date. The real challenge, however, was whether you were going to like your date. If all else failed, you could always cower in the corner with your friends who were also hiding from their dates, and remind yourself not to go to next year's masquerade--even though you knew you would anyway; what if you finally got the match of your choice?
The anxiety in the air was almost suffocating. Gowns rustled, tickets crinkled. A small group of students avoided the line and stood out of view of staff and chaperones, smoking stale cigarettes and huddling as something a little more fun was unveiled.
A limousine pulled up and several students tumbled out, laughing and bouncing as they joined the line.
The line moved slightly, allowing just a few more students into the building.
