Mirka knows as soon as she wakes that there’s someone missing. She’s curled against Roger but her back is cold, a space where a warm body should be and shifting to look back all she sees is Andy, sprawled naked across the bed with Mardy nowhere in sight. A brief flash of panic fades as she hears the bathroom door open and she watches Mardy tiptoe across the room towards them. He pauses by the window to peer through the gauze curtain and she really wants to talk to him while Roger and Andy are still sleeping, so it’s the perfect opportunity. Escaping Roger’s arms proves more difficult than she’s anticipated but some gymnastic-wriggling and she’s free, sliding towards the end of the bed when warm, calloused hands catch her. She glances up to see Mardy, staring at her quizzically in the gloom.
“Bathroom trip?” he suggests in a whisper, helping her stand and she’s suddenly aware of how very naked they both are, Mardy’s chest pressing hot to her bare shoulder as he slides his arms around her. She swallows, shakes her head.
“Actually I want to talk to you.”
“Oh.” Mardy sounds startled and he glances at the sleeping men in the bed. “Sssh then. Come over here before we wake them.” He draws her across the room to the window again, wrapping his arms around her from behind when she turns to peer outside. He’s pressed against her all the way down and she stifles a gasp, knowing they should talk before anything else.
She knows it but its still hard not to turn into Mardy’s embrace and the quiver running through him, pressed against her lets her know he’s thinking the same thing.
“Mardy,” she says softly and feels his head tilt down to listen. “I… Are you okay?”
“How do you mean?” She can hear the frown in his whisper. “I’m a little sore but otherwise I’m fine. Better than fine in fact.”
“So no second thoughts?” Mirka almost can’t voice the question but Mardy going tense gives her the answer before his furiously hissed ‘No way!’
“Thank god. Me neither.” She slides round a little, wrapping her arms around his waist and resting her head against his chest. He’s quiet, enfolding her in his embrace and brushing a soft kiss across her hair. “I can’t believe we actually did it.”
“I know.” Mardy glances back at the bed, where Andy has rolled over and is snuggled happily against Roger. “There were a few moments there when…”
“Roger,” Mirka agrees softly, feeling her heart sink. “Do you think he’ll be okay?”
“You know him better than me.” Mardy sounds contemplative, running his fingers lightly up and down her back. It tickles but she doesn’t want him to stop. “I think he will be. We should go easy on him for a while.”
“On both of them. They’re giving up a lot for this.” Mirka turns fully to press her face to his chest, the light scattering of hair tickling her lips. “Tell me we did the right thing.”
“That sounds like a second thought to me.” Mardy sounds more amused than concerned which is even more reassuring than his next words. “Don’t worry Mirka. They knew what it meant when they said yes. I think they want this as much as we do.”
“You’re right.” Mirka doesn’t lift her head as she licks her lips, tongue brushing warm skin and Mardy’s pulse jumps against the hand she has pressed to his neck. She grins to herself and lets her free hand make its way slowly downwards, enjoying Mardy’s gasp when he realises what she’s doing. “So you know we’re breaking down walls right now yes…?”
“Yeah.” Mardy’s breath hitches at her touch and she tilts her head back to look at him. He’s smiling, flushed in the lights of Paris through the window. Mirka licks her lips again, suggestively.
“Well I seem to have kissed two of the people in this foursome, but I have yet to make out with my partner in crime. Does that seem wrong to you?”
“Very wrong,” Mardy murmurs, his mouth descending. “Especially after we did so very well.”
“We did.” She pauses, her mouth barely centimetres from his. “Will you love me?” she demands, half-teasing. Mardy’s smile is soft and slow, crinkling around the corners of his eyes.
“I already do.”
“Oh.” Giddy happiness sweeps through her and she has to hold onto him for balance. “Me too.”
“So can I kiss you now?” he asks. Mirka tilts her head back further and goes up on tiptoe. She’s got three gorgeous, wonderful boyfriends and she loves them all, including – and perhaps especially, for everything they’ve accomplished together – the golden man leaning in to kiss her. In the instant before their mouths meet she whispers an answer against his mouth.
