Call Me When You're Drunk [ Complete ]
Who: Vash ([info]stampeded) and Wolfwood ([info]nickwolfwood)
What: Discussing the birds and the bees everything that's happened.
When: Day after the curse; ungodly early hour.
Where: 050A.
Warnings: Awkwardness. Maybe swearing, amnesia and some sap at the end.

It was for the simple reason Vash wasn't sure what to do(extremely odd, this: he used to always know a reaction to every situation. But then again, he hadn't felt like he knew how to act for a while.) that he went right to the source of his anxiety. It had only been a night - not even, more like six hours from midnight, if the clocks were correct - but his whole schedule was thrown off by it.

Ever since the power-switching, he'd gotten a better grip on his "problems," and tried to move his sleeping from during the day to night, like what was normal for a human; but just that one curse had thrown him right back in to his old habits. And there was only so long a Plant could pace and annoy his roommate before he had to do something.

So, at the unholy hour of six AM, the red-coated Stampede was whistling down the halls, a box of cafeteria prepared donuts under his arm and a bounce in his step. This was, of course, just an out reflex; he even had his glasses on, and with a smile on his face, promptly arrived at room 50 and... knocked. Loudly.

What was he doing? Getting rid of guilt, truthfully. It must've been the curse that made Wolfwood act like that, Vash reasoned to himself - and unless the 'normal' was established again, the Stampede was half suspecting he'd lose his... best friend.

Because that's all it was.

"Ask the closet for your confessional - you really need it," Vash deadpanned, staring resolutedly at Wolfwood in an entirely serious manner. "Though I don't know if there's an actually creditable priest around here." Hm.

Ouch, that stung, especially given... what he'd told Vash. What he'd done with Milly.

What he'd thought of doing with--

"Hmmph," he said, closing his eyes and smoking, trying to pass off the genuine flash of pain as play-grumpiness.

Nothing was going to get past Vash on guard, though. As creepy as that probably sounded.

"Hey, there's still two left," A subtle change of topic, but not a very good one - "Anything would be better than those cigerrettes." He didn't mean offensive, really.

"You can have them." But if Vash was going to be such a pain about his smoking... He turned away again, going to the window this time and opening it despite the cold, blowing a long breath of smoke outside.

Did it really make him all that bad? Everyone sinned. He knew he shouldn't take it seriously - after all, Vash was Vash and almost definitely hadn't meant anything by it.

Plus, despite loving the other man, it wasn't as if they'd...
...
He would definitely have remembered that, right?
Or Vash would have said something about it.

...Right?

Normally, the Stampede would just swallow his own tongue at that moment and maybe even sneak off back to-- well, somewhere. As it was, there were no other concerns that needed his attention; a bit disgruntling, really, to wake up to a loud Bridge in the morning instead of bullet holes in the wall from last night's gunfight.

So while he did hesitate to say anything when Wolfwood opened the window, the Plant didn't hold silence very long. "... Hey, Wolfwood. Are you alright?" When people got pensive around him when he wasn't trying to be serious, it generally meant something was wrong.

Or something went wrong. How drunk had the priest been again?

Would Vash bring up something like that? He had to admit that he didn't know. Anyone else surely would.

But then, if Vash was anyone else it wouldn't be an issue, would it?

"I'm fine," he said, continuing to smoke out of the window. "You said you didn't want to deal with the smoke. Are you going to eat the donuts, or not?" He had woken up alone, after all. And if anything more had happened between them... maybe it was best that he didn't know?

"But they're yours," The Stampede protested diligently - even outlaws had some lines that they'd never cross. And one of those was eating another guy's food when the said guy was in the room.

Then Vash blinked, thought a bit on what Wolfwood was doing, and finally replied optimistically, laughing slightly halfway through it. "Oh! Yeah, that works, doesn't it? It's a bit weird to open a window on a breezy day and not get sand everywhere, huh?"

"I had some. You always liked them better than me, anyway, right?"

He sighed, pushing the rest of the vague worries about things he shouldn't be thinking about to the back of his mind. "Someone said it was going to rain soon... I wonder what it will look like here, when the snow is gone?"

The pacifist held out as long as possible, walking around the table so his back was to the box and some glimpse of the window was visible around the priest's shoulders.

"I'm not quite sure," Vash admitted, although he was just as curious himself. "After winter comes... spring, right?" Old lessons with calenders came to mind - the seasons had been all but forgotten to most residents on Gunsmoke, but they seemed to apply to this world.

After Christmas came Easter. "Yeah." He tapped the ash off the end of his cigarette, watching the breeze carry it down and away from the building. "None of it seems to be strange to anyone else, though. I wonder if Gunsmoke was really that different from ...everywhere else."

Recalling the fuzzy memories of the Geoplant and how it had mirrored Earth, Vash nodded, forgetting a moment that Wolfwood couldn't see him. "People are a lot quieter, too." Even if there had been those... problems a while ago.

-- And by how they were talking, it looked like everything was alright. Even if the words from the curse were hanging over Vash's head like the little cartoon devil-on-a-shoulder.

"There is less fighting," he agreed, although he hadn't forgotten the talk of people dying that had happened during the power switch. "So far, anyway."

Vash gave a content hum, rocking back on his heels for a moment and wondering exactly what to say. The silence wasn't awkward - he'd just felt a need to fill it up all the time, with the continued 'noise' in the back of his mind, and there was really only one way to do that.

Stuffing one of the last two donuts in his mouth, the blond snatched up the box, hop-skipped-jumped right to Wolfwood and promptly held it flat-out in front of Wolfwood, just out of range to be burned by the cigarette.

Much as he liked smoking, he didn't particularly like ash on his donuts (and he suspected Vash didn't either), so he took the donut out of the box, flicked the cigarette butt out the window, and started to eat it. "Thanks for breakfast," he said with his mouth still full.

"I already told you it was no problem," The Stampede waved off, taking a moment to look around for a trash can. "I bring you breakfast, you don't shoot at me for waking you up - deal~?"

Ah! There it was. As outwardly happy as he always was, Vash left the cold-air-blasting window to retreat to the other side. A befuddled glance at all the cigarette boxes(empty or not) laying innocently on the surrounding counters, and he just couldn't help questioning it. "Do you ever use your garbage? - And, hey! Some of those are half full. ... Wolfwood, maybe we should change your name to pack-rat."

"Sometimes I can't get the closet to give me more when I want them and sometimes it gives me a lot." Wolfwood closed the window again with a little shiver when he'd finished eating the donut. His room was a little cold now, and the rumpled bed he'd been gotten out of looked so inviting... to sleep in alone.

Vash 'hmmed,' laying off the smoking problem for a moment - instead, he simply turned around as the window was closed, watching quietly as Wolfwood shivered and the cold breeze finally stopped coming in.

.. Stayed silent for a moment, at least. Plant-time moment, too. "Sooo," The gunman piped peppily (and maybe he was spiting Wolfwood; who knew?), grinning widely. "How are you doing at.. ah... six in the morning...?" At least he sounded a bit guilty at the end of that.

"Tired, how else would I be after four hours of sleep?" But Vash didn't seem like he was going to go away and let him go back to sleep, so he sighed, picking up the Punisher from its by-now-habitual spot against the wall near the window and resting it over his shoulder. "I need some coffee after all..."

There was a 'heh' of verbal guilt, before all of it disappeared. "Four hours is better than none, at least! - But, ah, really, if you want to fall asleep, I don't mind - ah, going. Breakfast's gone and all." Another nervous snicker, before the Stampede became a bit distracted, blinking at the Punisher for a moment and then grinning widely. "Still carrying that around, Wolfwood?"

"This place may not be Gunsmoke, but it isn't Heaven, either." He meant that mostly figuratively, though, ha, guess he ought to know. "Just because people who get killed here don't stay dead doesn't mean I want to die again."

There was an immediate 'frown' in Vash's expression, even if his smile stayed stuck. "Let's hope nothing calls for that to be used, huh?"

If only he could trust himself around his Colt. Ah well, inbedded weapons worked just as well. "So. Coffee. You're really getting some?"

"I might as well stay up now that I'm up," he said, letting the question of using his guns pass by unanswered and grabbing a half-full box of cigarettes on his way past his table, tucking it into his jacket. "Are you coming with?"

"Well, it's not that far from here..." The Stampede trailed off, but he was agreeing before he even got to 'suspenseful' part of the pause. "Yeah, I'll tag along. I wouldn't want you laying unconscious in the hallway because you fell asleep."

"I'm not that tired!"

It was disturbingly normal between them. Who complained about that sort of thing, though? And wasn't that what he'd wanted, for things to be as they were?

Ah well. He headed out the door towards the siren call of caffeine.

"Delusional, too." And that ... atmosphere of tension seemed to grow, even as the Stampede ignored all those 'things unsaid,' putting on a mock-stern face and following Wolfwood out.

They didn't have to talk about it. It would be safer if they didn't. But at the same time...
