Wrong or Right? [ Closed ]
Who: Zidane ([info]thiefmaster) & Jeff ([info]snowblindheart) & -much later- Daxter ([info]truthfulliar), right after Jeff leaves the cafe.
What: Zidane returns here after a week trip back home.
When: Nowish. Right after his post.
Where: Cafe.
Warnings: Angst on Zidane's end. Swearing?

This place bothered him. Well, the people who ran the place. What people though? Ghosts sent them home, only to bring them back. If that were true, why didn't Ness come back? Was Ness a threat to the ghosts here? What about that alien... the Andalite or other?

Sighing, he snapped his laptop shut. Grabbing his daggers, he went out the door and started making his way to the cafe. He barely noticed the people who passed him by. His thoughts to toward his home.

It was true then? His own world was stopped in a time frame freeze? His boss, Baku, announced that they were reaching Alexandria. He had been surprised since it was the exact moment that he was first snatched away. Now? He had been making his way to Dagger's room, just to be snatched away again. What kind of game are these ghosts playing?

In a daze, he barely noticed entering the cafe; barely noticing sitting down on a stool and ordering a drink.

Dagger, he thought. This is almost too cruel.

Typing away on his own laptop at the cafe was Jeff, trying to keep busy and thus distracted. Still, it was hard to keep his mind off of the recent disappearances... and keeping busy just meant he was thinking more about the nature of the place. What did it mean, to be a "fixed point?" What were they doing?

As Zidane entered, Jeff looked up from his typing with vague recognition. Hadn't he been one of Ness's friends...?

Walking by earlier, Zidane though he'd recognized someone sitting in a chair far from his own stool.

Keeping his hand curled around his drink, he gave the person another glance before tumbling back into his own thoughts.

Well, there was nothing to do but ask, was there? "... Hey." Jeff finished typing his sentence and stood up. "You're, um, Zidane, right?"

His thoughts slowly left him as he heard the voice call to his far away mind.

"Do I...?" Zidane started to ask if he knew him when he flashed back to Ness's room with the Foppy. "....Jeff?"

"Yeah," Jeff started. "Uh, sorry to bother you; just haven't seen a lot of familiar faces lately, that's all." Never mind that Zidane's was only slightly familiar; this was a question of "any port in a storm."

"It's alright." Pause. "Ness didn't come back, did he?" He waited a second before he continued. "... I was home."

Zidane took this in as a hit. "No one knew that I was missing. My boss, leader, was giving out the same order when I was first brought here. Time isn't passing there now."

"Hmm." Jeff nodded. "So there's some truth to this fixed-point idea? That we're just sort of... outside time while we're here. ... It's strange to think about."

"Yeah." He pushed his drink aside. "It's cruel." He shook his head. "This place... it's a game to the ghosts, isn't it? We're the pieces that get shoved this way or that way."

It was, really, a tribute to one of the few things being an ottsel was good for - that was, ducking through ducts and... well...

He half wanted to start humming Mission Impossible. The skulking will-be ninja diving through vents, stalking out prey- it was the perfect scene! He just needed a victim... But getting on the wrong side of most of the residents wasn't a good idea.

So when he saw a skinny, yellowish tail, he mentally went through a checklist of People Occupying This Hotel, didn't remember any with one, and did was he set out to do. Having unscrewed most of the gates a long time ago, Daxter pounced out with a 'banzai!,' not at all subtle as he attempted to promptly pull harshly on the tail that was...

Not.. attached to a ghost.. but... the other, not-green thief guy. Oooh. This was realized a bit too late to stop the yanking-of-the-appendage, but he was looking appropriately ashamed at the end of it.

Walking promptly with his arms at his side, the legendary thief made his way through the quiet hall. The hall was a little less crowded than before. Not surprisingly since it was turning into the late hours. He swore that he heard his own footfalls echoing slightly in the hall.

Talking to Jeff helped. Sort of. He hadn't really learned much, but it was nice to see a familiar face again.

"Wha?!--- OW!" He came to a sudden halt as he felt someone or something yank on his tail. Cursing underneath his breath, he turned around and saw a creature hanging onto it.

"Oh.. uh... haha... how are you, fine sir?" The ottsel twitter nervously, letting go of the tail and patting it a bit when it fell on the ground; then he oh-so-discreetly started inching backwards.

"Nice tail ya got there," He tried, given that the weird thief guy looked as murderous as Erol would on caffeine.

His hands balled into fists at first. He felt the creature gently pat his tail and he just sighed.

"... So I've been told." The creature with the goggles on his head was slowly inching backwards from him. Zidane couldn't blame him though. He was ready to go ballistic himself at any moment. He was ready to give chase if he needed to.

"It's not the first time it's been pulled." He remarked. "Zidane, class thief at your service." He hoped to get that 'I'm-gonna-run-away-now' look out of the creature's eye. "Who're anyway?"

With that one inquiry, the ottsel puffed up like a rooster, a grin on his face and a smug look in his eyes. How quickly he could forget, no?

"Daxter, Gnomey! First class ninja and all-around best guy of the year, I'm not exactly at your service." Said guy-of-the-year promptly hopped up on a window sill, hands on his 'hips' and that air of... something around him. "We've met! Don't'cha remember?"

He folded his arms across his chest. "Dax... on the journal site?" He nodded. "Right." His tail curled over a bit as he stepped closer. "What made ya decide to yank one someone's tail?"

The bravo faded a bit, but there was still some 'I'm better than yoo~u' feeling left. "Uh..." He coughed discreetly, turning a bit to the side. "Ithoughtmaybeitwasaghost'sand that's not really relevent, right?! How ya doing, Gnome?"

Smooth, he thought to himself, not at all sarcastic in his own mind.

He blinked and he was trying his hardest not to laugh and failing miserably. He laughed for the first time that night.

"Ghosts... tails? Come on now, they wouldn't have tails that would be yank-able."

Still snickering, he glanced back the way he was going. "I was just going back to my room."

"Hey, what's so funny? And who says they wouldn't?! I know plenty of spirits who're grabable! Of course, normally they're doing the grabbing and the throwing but that's not the point." Daxter huffed at last - he'd been a bit more talkative than normal, and not only because he was about to lose it.

And then his personality changed from one of exasperated-ness to honest confusion. "Why do you want to go back to that box?" Of course, he wouldn't... know it was, but all the rooms seemed rather cramped to him. And he was two-feet tall.

He chuckled a bit. "Well, you know. Spirits usually can't be touched?"

The last laugh leaving him, he gave another glance behind his shoulder. "I'm tired? Some of us like to sleep." He considered telling the truth or not, but gave up. "I just came back to this place tonight. I've been home for a week." He shrugged. "Weird game, that these ghosts play."

Daxter blinked, and his holier-than-thou attitude totally dropped, a more curious look coming in, even if he did snort at the 'I'm tired' comment. "Doesn't sound like a game to me. Do you remember what happened when you went back?"

The ottsel wasn't about to give up there. With a leap that would've made Jak proud, Daxter attempted to latch onto Zidane's turned back.

"Hey! Heyhey! Think about it like they're waiting for you, not that they're just standing around!" The ottsel would huff, then, dropping off if he'd gotten on and scurrying a little bit back. "I don't want anymore sad people around, ya'know?"
