dun dun duuuuuun [COMPLETE]
Who: Sasuke ([info]ten_no_juin) and Sakura ([info]sakurablossoms)
What: Meeting for the first time.
When: The day he made his first post.
Where: Sasuke's room, 265 Wing B
Warnings: ... Angst?

Sakura rolled her chair slowly away from the laptop, still seated, and took a deep breath. The ghosts hated her; this was definite. The first time she ever came in contact with one through the system, the little girl ghost mentioned Sasuke's name, and a week later, he had arrived. Sure, he had been disoriented and completely unlike himself, having forgotten everything after the Chuunin exams, but it had still been Sasuke. Then they took him away just as quickly as he had come. Both Narutos followed soon after and left Sakura alone for a few months. And now there was a new Sasuke... who seemed just as lost as the first, though he wasn't surprised to find himself in a sixteen year old's body, and Naruto was nowhere to be found.

Yes, the ghosts hated her.

Asking to meet with Sasuke had been an idea Sakura immediately regretted. What if he was lying? What if he really did remember and this was a trap of sorts just to get her close? She didn't know why he would do such a thing when it was easier to simply ignore her, but she didn't really know him anymore. Who knew what he was like now?

Making sure she looked presentable, Sakura took her sweet time leaving her room and closing her door painfully slow behind her. She immediately knew that he was in the same Wing as her, on the same damn floor, right down the hall she was staring at. His chakra was pulsating dangerously familiar to her senses. It was both comforting and concerning. As she walked toward room 265, her nerves set in and everything told her to run back and hide under the covers in her dark room, but she couldn't do that... not now. She had to see him at some point, right?

When the door was directly in front of her, Sakura took another deep breath and gently knocked on the wood.

Sasuke closed the laptop with a resigned sigh and rested his chin in his hands. What had he been thinking, telling her where to find him? The only girl he could remember really interacting with had pinkish hair too, and she was downright obnoxious, always clinging to him and doing everything she could to get rid of the others so that he was stuck with her. What if Sakura proved to be the same as Karin...or worse?

It was a risk he had to take. After all, she was the one that wanted to enter enemy territory, not him, and as such, she would have to make the first move. Should worse come to worst, he could always take the ottsel's advice and pretend that he knew her.

At the sound of the soft knock, he pushed his chair back and stood up, careful to slip the sword he'd carried for as long as he could remember back into place between the bands of rope around his waist. If he opened that door and the girl dove at him, she would get to experience mild electrocution.

Steeling himself for what was to come, Sasuke took a deep breath and slowly opened the door, keeping as much of it between them as possible to avoid any chance of being mauled while still being able to see who was on the other side.

To be honest, if Sakura's inner self wasn't pushing her this hard, she would have run away by now or chosen to come back another day when she was ready to face whatever was about to happen. It was hard to ignore, though, and she knew this was the right thing to do when it all came down. Besides, she couldn't avoid him forever. They were bound to meet, unfortunately enough.

When the door began to open, she held her breath but kept a relatively normal expression on her face. She didn't want to look scared; What kind of an impression would that be? Then again, she shouldn't have cared to make an impression on Sasuke of all people. Such feelings were a thing of the past, right?

The crack that now separated them was horrifying to her. She could see his face, (at least as much as he was allowing her to see) as stoic as ever.

"Sasuke-kun..." was all she could manage to say at first, very quietly, before moving her gaze to the floor. "You look... well."

Pink hair, green eyes, no glasses, no disgustingly sweet voice, no seething swordsman in the background... He let out the breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding.

She was normal. A bit quiet and somewhat skittish, but normal. Was she really a kunoichi?

Sasuke stepped away from the door, pulling it open farther before he let go and retreated to the other side of the room. A little distance wasn't a bad thing, and it would give him a clearer view to assess the situation. It would also give him a chance to react in case she tried something.

"You can stand in the hallway or you can come in. It's your choice."

His usual aloof reaction to everything made her calm down a bit. At least he was still acting like himself, the way she vaguely remembered from the past, though Sakura remained conscious of everything nevertheless.

The invite was well appreciated as she took meek steps inside, closing the door for him and then staying in that corner of the room. Yes, that felt like a good idea for now. Finally deciding to actually look at him, Sakura placed her hands behind her back and tilted her head to the side slightly.

Um. Now what?

She let the silence spread for quite some time before speaking up again, hesitant at first. "Do you remember who I am?"

One eyebrow arched quizzically at her actions. Was she afraid or just nervous? Either way, it made him feel a bit more at ease knowing that she wasn't.

"Do I remember you?" he echoed, shifting the blade at his back to a more comfortable position, "I recall seeing you when your teammate attacked me, speaking to you although I don't remember what was said, and a fight that was interrupted. Do I remember you? I can't say that I do."

He pushed himself away from the wall, removed the sword from its confinement and set it aside. There was no need for it if she was going to act like a frightened puppy.

Sparing a glance in her direction, he continued in the same rather bored tone, "You are allowed to sit, you know. I don't bite... unless provoked, of course." With that, he took his own advice and sank down on the edge of the bed, dark eyes fixed on the girl.

While he was good at taking, the giving part had never been his strong point. He wanted to know what she knew, but without having to ask. With the current situation, however, he didn't think there was any way to get what he wanted otherwise.

"Why do you assume that I should remember you?"

Sakura couldn't help but frown at his words and how true they sounded. It did not seem like he was lying which was the scary part of all this. Although... it was also a wonderful opportunity to get him "back" so to speak, in the emotional sense. It was awkward how the task now seemed to be all up to her.

She eyed his sword as he placed it down. Had he seriously been expecting to use it? She hoped not. As good a kunoichi as Sakura was, she was no match against Sasuke. Giving a small, slightly annoyed huff at his attempt with wit, she walked over to his desk and sat down in the coinciding chair anyway. Crossing her legs and her arms, she continued to stare right back at him as he was to her.

Hearing that he honestly did not remember her, though, was a huge blow to the heart. It made her stomach squirm in a very unpleasant fashion. This meant he did not even remember the good times they had, didn't it? "My name is Haruno Sakura. I was on the same team as you when we were genin. Team seven. With Kakashi-sensei and Naruto." She spoke curtly at first before sighing through her nose to relax herself. "You seem to remember Orochimaru and your... brother, but for some reason you don't remember your... home." She frowned even more, furrowing her brow. "But I don't know why other than making the assumption that the ghosts who run this world took those memories from you on purpose. We were allies, you know." She paused. "Back then."

Sasuke cocked his head and leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. "I remember Orochimaru quite well, actually. He didn't put up much of a fight when I killed him, but he made a big mess when he died. As for my brother, we were searching for him when I wound up here."

He picked at the wrappings around his left arm as he took in the rest of her words. What she'd said was almost believable when taken with the curt precision she spoke in, however there was a part of her story that didn't match up to his, and it was nagging at him.

"If I was on a team like that, then why was it Orochimaru who trained me and not your sensei?" It didn't make sense to him. Why would she go through the trouble to tell him that and leave out details that would've made it more plausible unless the entire story was a heavily fabricated lie? If they'd been friends, then why would her team have attacked him like they had?

"Because..." she started and found herself stopping shortly to think of how to phrase it. Ah, the straight, blunt truth seemed best in this situation. "You chose that fate yourself. You went to Orochimaru by your own will. We tried to stop you on many occasions, Naruto even ran after you and nearly got killed doing so but... you didn't listen. You wanted... power. Or something. Just so you could kill Itachi." She moved her gaze to the side, now angrily refusing to look him in the eye. "You said you didn't care about us anymore and that we were too weak. Our friendship suddenly meant nothing to you."

Her hands found their way to the edge of her chair and she gripped it rather hard. "You left about three years ago but you seem to remember that. It was our goal to get you back home, that's why we were attacking you. That's why Naruto or... my 'teammate' seemed so hellbent on fighting you."

Her words were like a slap in the face. Whether she'd meant it to sound that way or not, what his mind caught was 'You left because you were the same as your murderous, power-hungry, bastard of a brother.'

He grit his teeth to keep from snapping at her, his right hand unconsciously tightened its grip on the wrappings of his left. He didn't remember any of this! She was lying. She had to be, but what if this was just one of those tricks that the spiky-haired kid had warned him about?

Despite his irritation with what she'd said, he managed to keep his voice calm. "Friends don't attack one another unless there was never a real bond there to begin with."

The moment he said that, Sakura's head snapped back to its former position to stare at him, her eyes slightly widened with confused pain before lowering them again and causing her features to grow softer. She should have known he always felt like that deep down inside. It was Sasuke, after all.

The intense need to cry washed over her quickly but she forced herself not to. That would just make her seem weaker than ever at this point and he was the last person she needed to look like a useless crybaby in front of. Instead, she held the emotion back as fiercely as possible and shuddered slightly instead. "T-That's not true," she said in a very low voice, now gripping her seat so hard her gloveless knuckles were turning white. This couldn't be happening. He had to believe her. He had to believe her and change and live happily ever after with her in this crazy, convenient world where no Itachi or any other Akatsuki could ever get in the way. Sure, they could come, but then what? There was no reason to hate here, no reason to attack one another and feel the need for revenge.

"If friends care enough about one another... enough to risk everything to save each other then that proves a stronger bond than anything else." The stinging in her eyes was a bit hard to ignore at this point. "Naruto... he cares for you so much. He hasn't stopped thinking about bringing you back since the moment you left. You've hurt him more than anyone else and you can just sit there and say he never shared a bond with you? I... I don't care that you don't remember him! He loved you like a brother of his own. W-We all did!" She finally brought her head back up to stare at him angrily again, eyes slightly red. "Friends love one another enough to take absolutely any chance necessary to help when need be! If we didn't have a bond with you, we wouldn't have even bothered to find you."

Loved you like a brother

There was only one small problem with that: his brother had never cared about him at all. How was he supposed to know what 'brotherly love' was when he had no experience with it?

Sasuke stood up from where he sat on the bed and moved toward the girl. Maybe she had made up the story about what happened, but she seemed to genuinely believe that they had been friends. If she were lying about that, then why get so worked up over it?

Crouching in front of her, he cocked his head slightly and hesitantly placed a hand over hers. "Don't snap at me when I disagree with you over something that's hazy because I don't know what went on. I'm not accusing you of lying, but I'm not saying that I believe all of it either. I already told you that I don't remember anything beyond that time. ...and don't ever equate me with Itachi again."

It was difficult for Sakura not to get so worked up over something she felt passionately about, least alone the situation with Sasuke. If Naruto had been around she probably would have kept her cool much easier for his sake, but after spending seven months away from the place she usually called home, she had nearly completely lost it.

When he crouched in front of her and actually touched her hand, though, Sakura flinched momentarily, having not expected to feel that sudden contact and found herself staring at him, blinking. A warm blush crept over her cheeks instinctively and she allowed her bangs to hide her embarrassment.

"I'm sorry," she said weakly. She knew better than to compare him even REMOTELY close to Itachi, and she hadn't meant to, but Sakura was finding this frustrating as well. "But... why don't you believe me? I wouldn't lie."

He leaned forward slightly, in an attempt to catch her gaze to be certain that she was really listening to what he was said. "Look at it from my standpoint. I woke up in a place I've never been, surrounded by people I don't know. The only person I remotely recognize tells me that I'm supposed to know things that I can't remember, gets frustrated when I don't, and doesn't understand that because I don't, I'm wary of trusting what they say. Honestly, if you were me, would you willingly trust what may or may not be true simply because someone tells you it is?"

The hand that was covering hers moved, switching places with the other so that he could readjust the wrappings on his arm. Sasuke was at a loss for why (in his opinion) she had to make it so difficult, but at least she wasn't crying. Crying women were even harder to deal with than clingy ones. He had to admit though, Sakura was nothing at all like Karin, and it was a very welcome change.

Sakura gave a heavy sigh when he made sense and finally sat up straight, choosing to give him a very small but slightly apologetic smile. This must have been harder on him that it was on her so she had to be stronger than was expected right now. It was no problem for her to put up a strong front, naturally, but it was very inconvenient given how the last time she had seen Sasuke face to face in this condition she had wanted to punch him. Hard.

She relaxed her hands and shifted her eyes back onto his face, hoping the pink in her face was gone by now. "I'm sorry. I understand. I suppose it would sound very odd and difficult to trust but..." she stopped, quirking an eyebrow momentarily. "I don't have reason to lie to you here of all places. That would be useless, really, given how we're stuck here for... however long it takes."

It felt really awkward to smile, even just a little bit, but it was hard not to. From what he could remember, he hadn't had anything to smile about in forever. At least she was starting to understand where he was coming from...

Her last words hit him hard.

Sasuke's eyes widened owlishly, a mildly startled look on his face. It was difficult to keep the worry from creeping into his voice. "What do you mean 'however long it takes'? How long is 'long'? Sakura... how long have you been here?"

At the sudden change of mood, Sakura was taken aback for a moment until awkwardness set in and she looked almost guilty to answer. She had barely ever seen that look on his face or heard that tone of his voice before, and each time had been just as honest and well-put as the rest.

"Um... I believe... seven months, now."

That really did sound long when she said it out loud.

"Seven months?!" He clamped a hand over his mouth and lowered his eyes when his voice cracked a bit on the second word. "Great. I feel like I'm eleven all over again," he muttered behind his hand.

There was no way he could stay here that long! He had things that needed to be taken care of and a brother that needed to die! She couldn't have been serious. Maybe she was just trying to scare him into thinking that he'd be there for a long time.

"You're joking, right?"

She couldn't help herself and giggled as his voice seemed to crack on its own accord. It was such good timing that she had to laugh at least a little bit, but then bit her bottom lip to stop herself from going too far.

Shaking her head her expression turned to that of mildly amused sympathy. "No, I've honestly been here for that long. Then again, some people have been here for only two months, two weeks, two days. Everyone spends a different amount of time here. You could even be gone tomorrow for all we know." She shrugged. "I've just been very unlucky, I guess."

Sighing, he sat back on his heels, head down, and toyed with the loose ends of the rope. "So for however long I stay here, I don't have to deal with her, but I can't kill him. If I go back, I get a chance to kill him, but I have to deal with her. I want him dead, but I'm not around him much, whereas she's part of my team and doesn't know the meaning of personal space." Neither thought was very appealing.

The idea of showing up only to leave a few days later didn't sit right with him. If he was going to be stuck there, he wanted it to be for a long enough time to get some use out of it. If there were others there who could put up a decent fight, then he'd be able to keep his abilities from dulling, maybe pick up a few new tricks while he was at it and not only have something to show for it but have something that could perhaps catch Itachi off guard when he returned.

He raised his head, a curious look in his eyes. "So being that you're the only one here with any knowledge of our world..." There was a pause while he thought it over for a moment before extending a hand to her. "...truce? "

His little grumblings caused Sakura to raise a confused brow. She had no idea who this annoying female he was talking about was, but according to him she was a member of his 'team.' Why did he gather her if he hated her that much? "Itachi was here once," she suddenly blurted out, face passive. "He caused some trouble and then left, basically. That was a few months ago."

She didn't know why she said it but if he ever heard from someone else that he had been here, Sakura assumed it would be good for him to be prepared for the news. Given how paranoid he was about her word right now, she didn't want him to attack her in the future for having not said anything to him in the beginning.

When Sasuke held out his hand to her, Sakura stared at it for some time, looking back and forth from his hand to him, and back to his hand again, smiling a little and then grasping it with her own. "Truce..." Well, this had certainly gone far better than she could have hoped for.

She'd said Itachi'd been there, but because she'd also said that people left at random, it meant he could possibly come back. A small smirk found its way to his face. If and when Itachi made a reappearance, Sasuke wanted to be there to welcome him with open arms, zap him to paralysis, gouge his eyes out, and make him suffer.

But first, he wanted to know why the ottsel mentioned that she had 'one hell of a punch' and that listening to her or pretending he knew her would save his skin. "I take it you have a rather volatile personality?"

If their truce was going to work, he wanted to know what he was dealing with... and how best to avoid becoming a casualty.

The question startled her. That came out of nowhere but she figured someone must have told him something about her. Frowning for a moment, she soon gave a haughty little smirk and chose to stand up now, leaning against his desk instead. It felt weird having to reacquaint herself with him but this was just the perfect chance to earn his respect... very unlike when they were younger.

"If I need to be, I can't help myself." She said it almost as though it was perfectly normal to have random bursts of anger thrown out at people but, for her, it... sort of was. Training with Tsunade had made her tougher, after all. "But I'm not always so crazy. It's just the training I had from Tsunade-shishou. She taught me how to use chakra precision to penetrate through nearly anything. It comes out as a form of insane strength." She gave a sweet smile. "I only use it when necessary, though."

She tilted her head. "Why, did someone tell you something?"

He nearly flinched at the idea of someone else capable of the same destruction that Orochimaru had claimed Tsunade could do. While he hadn't witnessed it firsthand, if Orochimaru though enough of her ability to make mention of it, then it wasn't something to take lightly. He'd just have to avoid getting on Sakura's bad side. The last thing he needed was to wake up in traction.

"...maybe a little. Not enough to form an opinion, but enough to give rise to caution. As long as you're not trying to break me in half, I'm not terribly worried."

There was something else that jumped out at him though. Wasn't Tsunade supposed to have been a top-notch medic as well? Had she trained the girl in that too, or just turned her into a master of brute force? If so, was she capable of regenerating something that was lost? "So you're violent, destructive, and deceptive. Anything else I'd need to know?"

"As long as you don't give me reason to break you in half," she muttered to herself.

The words he chose to describe Sakura with were not ones she would have preferred Sasuke to use, but they were actually true, sadly enough. At least they could be considered some of her stronger personality traits though not the friendliest. She hoped he wouldn't just see her as some easily frustrated, typical, overpowering female.

She thought about what to add for some time. "I can heal. I've been training as a medic-nin as well and now I work in the local hospital so I don't bore myself to death." She shrugged. "People come to me if they need anything and I usually help them. I'm sort of like the local, familiar doctor."

"So if I were to... say... need something fixed, you could do it?" He chose his words carefully, not wanting to gie away the 'something' unless it was possibly within her power to do. Of course, if she offered, that was a different story.

It was nice to know she wasn't useless, and could be relied upon should the need arise. Perhaps it was in his best interests to attempt and forge a bond with her after all. Besides, she had said they'd all thought of him as a brother, which meant she wasn't an annoying 'Oh Sasuke lovelove hearts and kisses hold still so I can hang all over you' girl.

His question made Sakura furrow her brow suspiciously, wondering just what he needed. She had noticed him futzing around with his arm bandages a lot. Perhaps it had something to do with what he was hiding under there. Either way, she was unsure how to answer. She couldn't refuse right away because it may have been something ordinary, but at the same time this could have concerned something related to getting stronger to kill Itachi... and Sakura did not necessarily want to help him with that.

"Maybe," she said carefully. "It depends on what you need fixing, exactly."

'Maybe' was a good thing. It wasn't an outright no, which would've told him that she didn't want to try, but it wasn't a yes which could show that she was rushing into things without thinking them through.

He rubbed at the back of his neck, trying to come up with the best way to say it without an immediate refusal. "A hand. It's... slightly broken... and makes for a bit of an inconvenience. If you can't, it's fine, but if it's something you're capable of doing, I'd prefer that route."

A broken hand? That was it? For some reason she didn't think so. Pushing herself off of his desk, she took the few steps toward him and made to gently grab the hand she suspected was the apparent broken one. "It would be very easy to fix this," she said confidently but then looked at him seriously. "...But I want to know how you broke it." She knew there was a very good chance that Sasuke would refuse telling her, but it was worth the try. She had already decided in her mind to help him if it truly was merely a 'broken hand.'

He cocked his head in confusion when she took his hand, raising an eyebrow before her words sunk in. "Oh no, my hands are fine," he replied, wiggling his fingers for emphasis. "It's this one that's not..."

Shrugging his shirt back off his shoulders, he released the seal on his neck and let his body shift into its other form, one heavy 'wing' spreading out across the floor and a stump where the other should've been. "If it's not fixable, I can deal with it. I'd just prefer not to put up with a writhing mass of snakes in its place."

Okay... so Sakura had not been expecting that in the least bit. The moment he changed form, she nearly screamed but somehow kept it to herself, gasping slightly instead and stumbling a step or two back. She had never seen him in this form before... and it definitely was not a pretty sight. This was the infamous curse seal's power...?

Cautious, she neared the painfully broken "hand" and stared at it, wide-eyed. She had never treated anything like this before in her life so she was unsure as to whether or not an operation would be successful. Hesitance suddenly wore her down but she bit her lip and kept her mouth shut for some time as she continued to examine. Maybe it wasn't so bad. It was a hand... just... not necessarily a human one. She had practiced fixing the wings of countless birds and bats, so this should have been similar. Just... bigger.

Then again, how was she supposed to grow a new limb?

She stood straight again and rubbed her temple momentarily. "I..." she paused and then gave a defeated: "I can try." She had just gone through a truce with him, too. If she refused to help, wouldn't that be breaking some sort of awkward growing trust? "I just have to figure out how to grow new cells."

"I take it that it's not quite what you expected?" he asked, curiously, glancing over his shoulder at where the 'hand' was supposed to be. It took a lot to keep the snakes from filling the void, but given her reaction, it was probably best that they not make an appearance. "I can't say it was what I expected either, but unlike you, I'm stuck with it."

Sasuke gave a one-shouldered shrug, the other wing shifting with the movement. "The only thing I don't care for about this is that I go from guy to drag queen in under a minute. How women can stand having long hair, I'll never know."

"Not exactly," she mumbled and reached out to touch the wingless shoulder but decided against it. She stared at the spot she knew the actual mark was when Orochimaru bit him. That moment had replayed in her mind thousands of times since he left. "... Does it still hurt a lot? The mark, I mean."

Sakura twitched at his words but hid behind him so he wouldn't see her shaking her head with a smart smile, while continuing to stare at the wound. It was weird hearing him still have a sense of humor, but refreshing nevertheless. "Why don't you just cut your hair, then? Or does it grow back every time?"

The first thought that came to mind was that she was pussyfooting around him when she really had no reason to. He wasn't going to attack her unless she pulled the first punch, and he doubted that he'd be twitching at all if she did. "No, it doesn't hurt, but it IS annoying to rely on a technique derived from someone else's DNA. And to answer your other question, I haven't tried cutting my hair, so I don't know if it grows back or not. Then again, I haven't bothered to take the time to look in a mirror when I'm like this either. Survival usually takes precedence over aesthetics. If I use what I've seen of others in this state as an estimate of my own appearance, though, I don't think I want to see it."

Lowering his head, he reached back toward her. "Give me your hand." Trust was something that had to be nudged along at times, and if it meant that he gained an ally out of it, he'd temporarily drop the barriers around himself.

Sakura couldn't blame him for not wanting to look at himself in a mirror while in that form. Hell, she wouldn't want to either. It must have been a pretty strong state, though, considering how he barely seemed bothered by the fact that an entire wing... hand thing of his had been cut off. She wondered if it was painful or just felt annoying.

His last statement startled her again, though, so she didn't have enough time to complete more questions. Blinking, she raised a suspicious, pink eyebrow. What was he up to now?

"Alright..." she said slowly before carefully giving him one of her hands. To be honest, she was a little nervous.

"This," he stated quietly, pressing her hand against the wingless stump, "doesn't hurt. It used to, but it doesn't anymore." He tipped his head to the side to shift his hair out of the way and forced himself not to tense up. Physical contact was one of those things that he wasn't really used to outside of a battlefield.

His hand slid away from hers, leaving her free to pull her own back if she wanted. "You can touch it if you wa... need to. It doesn't really bother me."

Sakura swallowed roughly when he placed her hand on the stump. It wasn't that she was uncomfortable touching something that needed to be fixed, she just wasn't used to being able to freely touch him. Especially in this form, at this time, it felt different but she didn't know why.

Nodding and forcing on a more professional demeanor, Sakura prodded the area gently with her fingers, trying to understand just what needed to be done to regrow this section of his wing. He was just another person who needed her help... nothing more or less.

A few long moments later she let go and nodded again, not really looking at his face. "I can do it."

At those words, he allowed the seal to retreat back to it's home near the juncture of his shoulder and neck, the wing pulling itself into his body. The part that felt strange wasn't having them, but when they came and went, like his bone structure was trying to adjust itself to accomodate the extra limbs. "You're certain? I don't want you to force yourself to attempt something if you don't think you can do it."

He collapsed on the floor and rolled onto his side. "I can't hold that form for long periods of time, perhaps a few hours to a day at most. If it's easier on you though, a partial shift isn't difficult and it can be maintained longer. I'd just need to know when you'd want to attempt it."

No more snakes, no more hissing in his ear when he used it, no more lopsided weight, no more looking like a sideshow freak (well, sort of). If he'd felt comfortable with touchy-feely interactions, he'd have hugged her, but he wasn't so he kept it to himself.

Watching as the cursed form retreated into his body and he fell, Sakura realized this was what he had left them for, for all these years. This was the main cause for his leave. He grew stronger through this curse, became a different person with a crazy outlook on an even crazier dream. Even though Sasuke was on speaking terms with her now, (though she figured he didn't have much choice in the matter) she felt resentment toward that part of him.

She leaned down slightly to offer him a hand to stand back up while mulling over his offer. "A partial shift would be fine as long as I have the right area to focus on. As for the length... probably a few hours. Maybe three at best, I'm not sure. I've never worked with this curse seal before." She frowned. "I'm not going to lie... I am taking a risk by accepting but I am willing to do my very best with all the knowledge I already have. Give me a day or two to plan it out, okay?"

Well, this was certainly nervewracking. What if she messed up? What if she only made it worse on him? He'd think she was a joke or was trying to sabotage him. Then it was decided. She had to make this successful no matter what. How? ... She would figure that out later.

Sasuke didn't hesitate to take her hand, and after getting back to his feet, slipped his shirt back on. Asking her for help with something like that seemed a bit much to him, but it was better than the alternative. If it didn't work, there were always other ways around things.

That slight smirk was back. She reminded him of Karin when the woman was being sensible, but more cautious. He decided to test the waters and see just how alike they really were. "Is that something you'd be interested in trying? Working with this seal, that is."

The question confused her at first. She wasn't sure what he was trying to imply. "It would be interesting, yes. But I don't want to mess around with something that... evil." She scrunched up her nose slightly, making an obviously disgusted face at the idea of what it had done to him. "I'm only really helping you because you need it, and I find myself responsible for aiding a past... comrade. Besides, what sort of medic nin would I be if I refused?"

He didn't know whether to be happy or insulted by her words and expression. Considering that she had just told him that he had pretty much abandoned them in the past, he wouldn't have been surprised if it was an insult. If he were to say as much though, it could hurt any dealings they may encounter later down the road. After all of her talk about friends and bonds, though, it made him wonder what she had expected from him.

"I suppose I should be grateful tht you're not manipulative like Kabuto was or annoying like Karin, but I fail to see how something that I've had for as long as I can remember is 'evil'. I extended the offer of a truce, so it's only fair that I lay my secrets out in the open." It was a dangerous thing to do when he didn't remember being on friendly terms with her... then again, he didn't recall being on unfriendly terms either. They had attacked him, but just because their villages were enemies didn't mean that they had to be.

The mention of Kabuto created yet another feeling of disgust somewhere in the pit of her stomach. That was another man she would forever hate and feel complete apathy for, no more and no less. She had yet to know who exactly this Karin person was but by the way he described her she must not have been a very tolerable person.

Sighing through her nose, she stood in front of him with arms crossed and nodded slightly. "I was there when you first got that mark and I can tell you the reaction was nothing less than painful." She dismissed any future argument with a shake of her head and stood more firmly. "Anyway. This is true. A truce is a truce. I'll be as honest as I can with you too... I guess." At least as honest as she wanted to be. "If you're trusting me enough to help you as it is, I should be grateful."

"If you say so," he replied making a 'brush off' gesture. He wasn't going to argue with her over it; there was no point since she claimed to remember it and he knew that he didn't. "A few days then, so that you can decide if it's something you actually want to attempt or not." To him, the discussion was over and unless she had another reason for her visit, there was no sense in dragging it out any longer than necessary.

"Yeah..." she ended, trailing off and then standing there in awkward silence. She supposed that's all he needed her for, now, which was reasonable given the circumstances.

In truth, she would have liked to stay for hours on end just... talking. But Sasuke wasn't much of a conversationalist and she didn't trust herself with the sanity to deal with his condition all in one visit. He had just gotten here, though. There would be plenty of other opportunities... at least, she hoped so.

"I'll get back to you when I've decided," she said and hesitated in moving before walking to his door and opening it herself. "See you later, Sasuke-kun."

He gave a short nod, watching her leave, his mind screaming at him to say 'goodbye' or at the very least a 'thank you'. Instead, he waited until she was already gone before he said it... and by then the only ones to hear it were himself and the door. Maybe next time he'd be able to say it to her, and maybe next time he'd remember why she seemed vaguely familiar.
