Burn that gasoline [Active]
Who: Nero ([info]devilbringer) and Gojyo ([info]red_as_sin)
What: Nero takes Gojyo to the shooting range as requested.
When: If yesterday was supposed to be tomorrow, it'd be today. 8|
Where: Great Hall, the streets, and the range.
Warnings: Snarkypants, flirting from Gojyo and some violence from Nero's aggressiveness? We'll see...

Nero had absolutely no idea why he had agreed in taking in this guy's offer in showing him around- what was his name, anyway? Maybe he had been bored, maybe he had just wanted an excuse to get away from Dante. With his room destroyed, he was still living with the Devil Hunter, and the tension somehow seemed to grow between them even though they didn't do exactly nothing. It was unsettling, Nero felt confined, and he hated it. Maybe a change of pace and scenery would spice things up a little.

Despite the fact that he seemed a whole lot too friendly for someone he barely knew (not to mention that flirting between him and that guy Mello in his own journal that had made him want to gag; seriously, guys, get a fucking room), the guy mentioned he had a weapon. He was at least curious about that. After all, weapons had always been a subject of interest to Nero. He smirked, oh well, he'd see what this guy could do, he considered as a confident smirk to no one in particular drew itself on his lips, eyes flickering to his media player to pick up the volume, . He leaned his head back against the couch he was sitting on in the Great Hall and let out an exasperated sigh.

Yeah, this guy better appear sometime.

Sometime this century, please.

Gojyo was a little late, which wasn't exactly unusual for him, but he'd been trying to pick out what to wear. Or more specifically, trying to decide whether or not he should bother with a shirt. Eventually he'd just grabbed one, as Nero seemed the type who had to warm up to you before you could flirt freely.

Five minutes later and he was stepping into the Great Hall, looking around until he spotted some white hair on a couch. He walked over, grinning once he was close enough. "Were you waiting?" he asked, dropping down on the couch next to him.

Sure, they were supposed to go somewhere, but Gojyo had already forgotten that he was supposed to wait to flirt with the man.

The headset slid down his head and curled around Nero's neck, fast music flaring from the headphones now that they weren't settled against his ears. Nero had a frown on his face when Gojyo sat down by his side, eyes covered by white hair for a moment as he considered what just happened.

Just before entering Nero's line of vision, his right arm had glowed. That had triggered Nero's instinct.

Not human, huh? He had to be cautious, there, even though his little tourist didn't exactly seem someone that harmful - not exactly in the physical aspect, since Nero was long since used to shape-shifters; just that Gojyo seemed the kind of person who just wanted to do things for kicks. Either way, the guy didn't know what the glow in his arm meant, even if, yeah, a large, scaly, blue and red arm with fingers that looked similar to claws, pretty much out there and unusual, even for this place.
He wondered what exactly would be red-head's reaction to that.

"Gee, does it show?" He smirked and shrugged, shifting on his seat a little before finally looking at the other man. Red hair and eyes and dark skin. Yeah, there was something on this guy that made Nero a little suspicious.

But suspicious or not, he never really bothered to keep his mouth shut.

Gojyo blinked down at Nero's arm. Well, that was freaky. He'd seen worse, a few times, but still. A glowing arm would never stop being freaky, no matter how much weird shit you saw.

He looked at it for a moment, wondering what exacty it was. Most likely some kinda weapon. He trusted his reflexes though, in case he pushed this too far and whatever it was would be used against him. Shrugging to himself, he lifted his head up to meet Nero's eyes instead.

"So sorry to keep you waiting," Gojyo said, leaning forward to pluck the headset from around Nero's shoulders. He didn't give the other man a chance to respond, putting them to his own ears instead. He listened for a few moments, then carefully placed the headset back where he'd found it, resisting letting his fingers brush against Nero's neck. "That music's good to dance to," he commented.

Nero arched an eyebrow at his reaction, and he had to admit he was kind of relieved he didn't ask anything about his arm. Maybe he was used to seeing things out of the ordinary? Hmm, food for thought, that.

His eyes widened a little at the bold move that was taking his headset away from him without even asking. That was his headset! His mind protested with the petulant tone of a brat, though the only external reaction was a half-glare, half-surprised look.

The half quickly turned into full surprise at Gojyo's statement. Usually he listened to songs with fast beats, aggressive riffs and violent lyrics, hard rock, speed metal and industrial, the works. Yeah, he practiced while listening to his music. But dancing? How the hell would anyone pull that off?

...unless he meant pulling a few air guitars.

"You think? Too bad I don't dance," he said, pushing himself up to his feet. "So where to? The shooting range, or do you want to go somewhere else?"

Gojyo grinned, using this chance to check out Nero's ass a little. The people here really were attractive -- maybe coming here hadn't been such a bad thing?

He stood as well, stretching slightly before glancing over at Nero. "Depends on how you dance," Gojyo said, not bothering to explain further. The other man didn't seem interested, anyway. "Didn't we agree on the shooting range?" he asked, deciding to change the subject.

Well, if you dance like a retard, you can dance to almost anything and still look the same, Nero's mind spat, though he kept his mouth shut for once. Two guys talking about dancing...

...uhyeahno, thanks.

He rolled his shoulder absently. "Sure. You just didn't sound that enthusiastic about it. Not being good with guns and all," he said, walking around the couch and picking up his Red Queen, that had been resting against the wall, and settling her between his shoulders. As if he'd go around unarmed out there after all these curses? Yeah, not happening. "Last chance to change your mind." He smirked.

"You never know when you need to shoot someone," Gojyo grinned at him. Though in all honesty, he was just looking for company. What they did was irrelevant.

Gojyo raised an eyebrow as Nero brought out a sword. What kind of weapon didn't this guy use? Overcompensating for anything, maybe? "You don't like going unarmed, that's for sure."

Nero considered those words. They... actually sounded pretty wise to him, at least when you had lived his life. One reason why he insisted on carrying a revolver even though the Order always admonished him for not just using his sword as an homage to the 'most honorable of weapons' -fuck'em, anyway. Yeah, sure, swordsmanship was awesome, slicing and dicing and burning his opponents held a certain thrill, but being able to just shoot those motherfuckers down also gave him a lot of satisfaction.

"Comes with the job," Nero shrugged and turned towards the door, waiting for the redhead to follow, left hand slipping into the pocket of his jeans.

Gojyo studied Nero for a moment at that statement, but followed after when he started walking. "What kinda job is that?" he asked, though he got the feeling he wouldn't get an answer. That didn't mean he couldn't try.

Besides, showing an interest could give a good impression. Unless it freaked people out, of course. He was still grinning, pushing his hair away from his face as he caught up. He didn't really mind either way.

Well, Gojyo was wrong. Nero only didn't tell him what it was right away because he didn't know if he was going to be interested or not. As it was, he smirked, rubbed his nose once with his thumb and glanced at Gojyo by the corner of his eye.

"I hunt demons," he said, waiting carefully for his reaction, especially considering that Gojyo wasn't exactly human, now, was he?

"Huh," Gojyo paused for a second. Were demons anything like youkai? That meant he should be a little bit more careful. Should be. Well, fuck that. He stepped closer instead, his grin widening.

"What exactly are demons?" he asked, looking over at Nero. "I've already run into vampires here. 'm guessing it's not the same in every world."

Heh. Definitely not the same." Nero shrugged, then turned a corner on the street, waiting for Gojyo to follow and continuing when he did. "Back in my world, there are two major lifeforms. Humans, and demons, which live in two separate worlds. Sort of... two different species, you know?"

He sighed, getting slightly nostalgic, and he thought of Kyrie, wondered how she was doing, how she was doing without him and of course, he worried, even though he had seen time and time again mentioned that time in your world stops the moment you were brought here.

He just really, really missed her, he guessed. Feeling those small and soft hands in his own and the scent of her hair. There was no feeling or scent like hers there, nothing that would ground him and make him feel like he was home. Except perhaps the smell of well-worn leather and gun powder that he caught sometime when he needed to approach Dante for one thing or another--

--and why the hell was he thinking about that bastard again?

He glanced at Gojyo. "Demons can look like different things. I've seen demons that look like a big pile of goo, and then others that just look like the average joe." He pointed at a passer-by randomly as an example.

Gojyo blinked. That sounded more and more like his world, even if humans and youkai had originally lived together peacefully. They were still separate species though, to the point where a relationship between a human and a youkai was taboo and considered bad luck. And now they weren't so much friends anymore.

"So how d'you tell 'em apart?" he asked, deciding not to tell Nero any of that. He risked making the other man try to kill him, and he really didn't want a fight right now. He was enjoying this break from being attacked every day.

At that, Nero shrugged, scratching his nose. "The humanoids? You don't. You just have to be careful and notice little details," he answered. He figured he shouldn't tell him why his arm glowed when he approached, at least not yet. "Demons have different abilities than humans. Strength, speed, agility that kinda thing."

He stopped by a crosswalk while waiting for the traffic sign to go red. "You either have to do that, or you have some demon blood in you and you'll be able to sense them, somehow."

Gojyo was starting to wonder if maybe Nero was from his world after all, just a different part of it. Though there were some obvious differences as well, thankfully.

"And why d'you kill 'em?" he asked, which might be the most important question so far.

"Because they kill us," was the dry reply. Wasn't it obvious? Sure, Gojyo might not belong to the same world as his, but to Nero, the word demon always held some bad connotation behind it. And he knew he wasn't the only one, Cloud never really asked why he hunt them down, asked about their origins, but never about the reasons. He knew where Gojyo wanted to go with his questions, though; his arm was still lukewarm from the faint but consistent glow.

"They look down on humans and think they're superior. They only care about power, becoming stronger and ruling the human world as well as their own," the way he said it, it was almost as he had something with a bad taste on his tongue. But in the end, he sighed. "Not that there aren't some rare exceptions."

Well, yeah. He was indebted to a half-demon after all, wasn't he?

"Huh. And humans don't think they're superior?" Gojyo couldn't stop himself. He reached into his pocket for a smoke, glancing over at Nero. Humans, in his experience, were at least as bad. He lit the cigarette, inhaling deeply from it.

Honestly, what Nero was saying sounded like the bad excuses of either side as to why they had to kill the others. Whoever won ruled the others; but it wasn't as if the fight could end. No, he was sick of that. "So they attack first?" he asked, just to confirm.

"Well..." Nero frowned and rolled his right shoulder absently, to then slip his left hand into his pocket again. "I can't deny that there are humans who are just as much scum as demons. Hell, that figured to be the biggest problem back at home." Even if that old fart Sanctus had wanted to use demonic power to save the town from the demons, the fact that he was first unleashing it just to restore the people's faith and become the new savior was still something that made his blood boil. Who the hell comes up with that kind of shitty plan?

And then, when he used Kyrie... it had been the last drop.

"Back in my world, humans are pretty much defenseless against demons, and those attack people regardless of who they are and what they've done. If they're there, they're prey." He glanced absently at Gojyo's cigarette. Yeah, this guy was obviously feeling around to check what kind of person he was. Nero wasn't a waste of brain power even if he was always picking up fights. He knew better than to attack something that was defenseless or wasn't ill-minded.

He... just kinda needed the adrenaline.

"Doesn't mean humans can't fight them. But good luck with that." He shrugged. "Most people who do are either something special or spent their whole lives dedicated to hunting them down."

"Fucked up world," Gojyo commented absently, aware that there was a lot that Nero wasn't telling him. But then, he couldn't really expect him to, either. He studied the other man for a moment, frowning just slightly.

"If humans were defenseless, and demons killed without meaning, wouldn't all humans be dead by now?" Gojyo asked. It would make sense; humans were weaker then youkai, but still found ways to fight them. It was the only reason why there were any still alive after the minus wave had been created.

Gojyo was feeling more confident that Nero, at least, wasn't that bad, but this was all hitting a little too close to home. He was fucking shit of people hating each other for being a different species. Fucking sick of it, because to him that always meant he was trapped between two sides, and he didn't feel like picking one or the other.

Nero rubbed his nose with his wrist, nodding. Tell me about it, though, truth to be told, that was still his home. And he missed the hunt. It was what he had been raised to do, and he reveled in it, and the fact that he was protecting those he cared about by doing it.

"Two thousand years ago, the demons tried to invade the human world. But a demon knight turned against them and separated the demons back in their world," Nero shrugged. "But a few demons still wander the earth. That's when people like me come in."

He stopped by a metallic gate. "This is it." He told him, opening it with a small kick with the tip of his boot and entering the range. Empty. Alright, then.

"So most humans don't know they exist?" Gojyo guessed. So there were some differences, at least. Good. otherwise it just seemed too freaky.

Gojyo followed after Nero into the range, looking around curiously. He had no idea what he was doing there, since he'd only touched a gun a few times in his life. But it might be interesting. Maybe he'd learn a thing or two to use against Sanzo.

"So why do they wanna invade the human world?" Gojyo couldn't help it. By this point he was just curious.

"Depends where you are from, I guess." Nero sat on a long bench behind the shooting booths and took out his double-barrel revolver, checking the safety, the trigger, the hammer and the ammo. Yeah, everything in its right place. "My town was pretty into that stuff. Worshiped the demon guy who locked the demons in their world as if it were a god and everything."

And both of his sons are here in this world, too, he thought, but didn't say.

Nero arched an eyebrow at that last question. "I told you: They only care about power. They'd probably make it a battle ground for their bullshitty squabbles to see who becomes the strongest."

Never mind that Nero still had that voice in his head, whispering, echoing demands and pleas for more power, purring whenever something demonic absorbed into his demon arm.

"So, did you bring a gun or are you gonna have to use mine?" he gave Gojyo a once over, since he hadn't even bothered to check any signs of arms on him. Heh. If Credo ever knew, he'd just roll his eyes and shake his head with that glare of his.

Wherever his soul was now, anyway.

Gojyo sat down next to him, watching as Nero checked his gun. He leaned back on his hands, and after a few moments he turned away to stare out at the range instead. "So they're just like humans, then," he commented.

At Nero's question, he shrugged and grinned. "Don't have a gun. Told you, not my weapon," he reminded him. To Nero, it would look like he wasn't carrying a weapon at all, although he was prepared to bring out his shakujou at a moment's notice.

Nero nodded. "Won't deny that one," he agreed. Though he had learned not to label people just like that. After all, after the person that was most looked up to by the whole city turns evil, his girlfriend's brother transforms into a demon and yet tries to save him and it's a half-demon that helps him kick the old fart's ass... yeah, not exactly going to label anyone else before knowing them.

Though that wouldn't change Nero's attitude in the least.

He stood up, rolled the roulette of the revolver with his thumb, and handed it over to Gojyo. "Want to give it a shot?" He told him, not exactly telling him that the gun shot two bullets at once because... well, the gun did look different from the others, didn't it?

Gojyo looked at the gun for a moment before accepting it with a shrug. Why not? He weighed it in his hand for a moment before standing up, walking over to the range.

"Not gonna help me out, then?" he asked, glancing at Nero over the shoulder. He was grinning. Really, he could figure out how to use a gun on his own, he wasn't completely helpless -- but still, he had to take advantage of this as much as possible.

Nero arched an eyebrow and eyed Gojyo suspiciously. "You have handled a gun before, right?" He asked, stepping closer and crossing his arms. Sure, the world was full of hotshots but his gut and the conversation he had with the guy gave him the idea that even though it wasn't his favorite weapon, he still knew how to use them. He motioned up with his chin. "Let me see your stance first." He asked. Then he could probably tell him if something was wrong or not.

And maybe it would be fun if he took a shot and got thrown back from the kick. Heh, it would.
