Masquerade Log
Who: Everyone!
What: The Masquerade
Where: The ballroom
When: 5:00 PM to 5:00 AM
Why: Because it's Clockwork's birthday!
Warnings: Who the heck knows?

The ballroom doors open promptly at 5:00 PM, revealing a lavishly, but tastefully decorated ballroom. A balcony circles the room, lined with tables for the guests, as well as a small grand staircase that leads down from the double doors to the dance floor proper. No band is seen, but music echoes through the room nonetheless, all instrumental but also some very nontraditional pieces. The buffet takes up the opposite wall from doors on the first level, seeming to have something for everyone, but the centerpiece is the cake. Large enough to feed two generous portions to every resident of the building and still have some left over. Flavor dependant on who eats it. It is an exact replica of The Building and its surrounding property. The hands on the Clocktower are set to 12:00 and around the sides of the cake, in the same perfect, flowing calligraphy as the invitations, are written the names of every person that had been brought to the world since those first few characters. The ones that had come through that first summer a year ago written in gold; the ones that had since left in black; the ones that had taken their departing into their own hands in red; and the current residents in silver.

He didn't know why he came to that place, save that he'd made a promise to a beast, and he really wasn't the kind of boy who went back on his word. It was a matter of pride, they said, and he was the sort who had pride in abundance. No, he'd weather his storm as he said he would, just another masked youth amidst an ocean of grinning faces and flowing cloaks. He walked among them, that gauntlet of nameless masks and faceless people, winding his way through the moving labyrinth in search of (not anything familiar, familiarity had no bearing in this place) something to bide his time. He would not stay for the whole event, no. Do his time, find what he needed to find, and make his way back to the safety of his room. A simple plan, that.

It wasn't long before he found himself on the dance floor, and he paused on the edge of the space, just another figure in black looking on in hesitation, and he was grateful for the respite granted by his mask. None could see the uncertainty that glimmered in dark eyes.

Near walked down to the dance floor and leaned against one of the walls, feeling annoyed and defeated both at once.

She didn't want to be there, not while still having a female body; and specially not in that costume. The kimono was too short, it showed too much of her breasts and legs and she felt far too much uncomfortable in it. Not to mention that wig, and the make up! At least the black long wig and different hair style, along with the turquoise mask, would hide her true identity for enough time until she left. Or rather, until the doors allowed her to leave: she had tried to exit, again and again, only to have the doors always remain shut. They opened to let others in, but she didn't have the same luck in getting out.

She looked down at herself, closing and opening her fingers. Even her nails had been painted for this (a deep black, and Near couldn't help but remember Mello), and the detective bit her lip in annoyance, only to stop as she tasted lipstick. Of course, how could she have forgotten? The red lipstick and black eyeliner that she had noticed after staring at a mirror for a long while, after the initial shock of being kidnapped from her room had passed.

Near had to stay away from everyone else, and so far she could see that only a few people were on the dance floor, contrary to other places like the Buffet. Perhaps the best decision was to remain there, and try to escape later.

Klavier paused for a second, still loosely gripping Apollo's wrist. Wow, it really was beautiful, wasn't it? They'd outdone themselves, he thought. Whoever they were, of course. He took a look around the place, thinking where he would drag the attorney off to. He had to make it up to him to him still, and he had to make sure Apollo had a good time, after all. Apollo probably wasn't used to these kinds of things, so Klavier decided he'd just have to help him out.

"Forehead, what you said earlier.. was that a challenge?" he asked, a bit of a grin on his face. Can't ballroom dance? he thought to himself, thinking over what Apollo had said before in his room. If that's really what he thought, well, then he'd show him, wouldn't he? He tugged on Apollo's arm lightly and motioned toward the dance floor. "If it was, then I'm going to be accepting it."

With the air of all children everywhere, and perhaps something like the prisoner he was supposed to be in this costume,Matt immediately gravitated towards the food, looking over the various treats like he hadn't eaten in a week. They all looked delicious, mouth-wateringly so, and it was with no decour so that the small boy stuck his hand into a pile of sweet pastries and started to chow down on them. Looking along the table he searched for something to drink, typically tempted to try and get hold of an alcoholic beverage if possible, even if the last time he'd tried one it had tasted horrible.

The small redheadturned, casting his gaze over any incoming people and trying to guess who they were through their costumes eagerly. Fingering the small disposable camera in his pocket, there was also some other stuff in there that no growing prankster could be without.

L peered around the door frame cautiously, surveying the room before hurrying as quickly as he could over to the food, grateful that his costume was both dark and not particularly restrictive. He'd just get some cake and then he could leave; go back to his room where he was more comfortable and watch on the cameras. That was how he'd prefer to 'attend' a party; there was no reason to be here in person. Maybe if his friend had still been here, but he wasn't. And even if he had been, he would have been far too busy for L at an event like this.

Hair put up like when he activated his innocence, The Crown Clown, face white, black circles around his eyes and mouth as if were stitched shut...The young exorcist had found it quite odd, maybe, that he didn't get a mask with the outfit, but instead some make up. Even so he put it on with only so much as a shrug, after all it wasn't like he hadn't used some before for their street performances with Mana when the man was still alive...

First thing when coming to the ballroom Allen had already spotted the food. He had debated for a while whether to look around a bit or eat something first, but his stomach reminded him of how hungry he actually was...So first food and then other things.

But what caught his attention as he strode towards the buffet were the names around the sides of the huge cake. And the boy realized that he knew some of them. The names of the recidents, maybe? His thoughts proved to be right as he spotted his own name - and Rabi's - written in silver. A chill went down his spine and he shivered slightly...

He decided to leave the cake alone, for now at least, and instead snatched a few pastries. Then, finding a good place from beside the table he leaned against the wall, munching on the food with a contemplative look on his face. Waiting for someone? Who knows...

Okay, Miles. Blend in. Don't let anyone pay attention to the four foot tall anthropomorphic fox who's chestfluff fills a cocktail dress disgustingly well.

The stupid party had blocked the café, and his spare reserves of food had run dry. Since the doors wouldn't open unless he had this hideously inappropriate thing on, the mobian was trying to make this as quick and painless as possible; go in, stock up at the buffet - with maybe a little more for Agatha, he could seriously sympathize with her given what Luki and Noki had done to his project a month or two ago - and leave.

Naturally, however, his eyes lock on the cake, which, given his inquisitive nature, draws him in like a moth to a flame. Hmn... Lots of "Mello"s and "Near"s all around, and even several "Matt"s. Silver appeared to be current residents, save for the veterans he'd noticed earlier, which were in gold lettering... black must have been people who had left - he recognized the names of Knuckles the Echidna there, as well as Sakura Haruno... but what was the red lettering?

He scanned the names, before finding one that confirmed suspicions. Halle Lidner. Red must have been the names of those who left through the ultimate sacrifice, who committed suicide for an escape. The amount of names there surprised him - more than one or two, a fair section of the names were in red; perhaps those at the hotel had lost it more often than they went home.

And then, there's one name that catches his eye, makes him stop dead in his tracks.

Miles "Tails" Prower

Chris entered the room slowly, happy that for once, while the ghosts might have this thing for seeing him squirm in a dress, at least they were nice enough to give him flat shoes and not high heels. And a dressed that didn't require much up top. Of course, being that he was twelve, even if he was a girl, chances were that he wouldn't have much to fill up the top with anyways. Though he had wondered about the color, pink? It was the same color as that dress shirt Ella and Tanaka had always insisted he wear while younger.

Best part? It wasn't obscenely short. He still had nightmares about mini-skirts sometimes.

But at least he had to thank Danny for his stupid dares. Thanks to his friend, Chris had gotten a first hand lesson on the ins and outs of makeup, hair styling and all those other things that girls need. So, figuring that he might as well make the best of what the ghosts had given him, he had decided to go all out, straighten out his hair from his wild spikes (that alone took him a couple of hours) and some light make up. While he probably looked like a twelve year old boy wearing drag, at least he was going to make the most of it.

His eyes quickly scanned the room, trying to decide on a place to wander to and eyed the buffet. Everyone had to eat sometime, right? And he could probably find someone to talk to over there.

Moving carefully towards the food, Chris eyed the others there. His eyes landed on some of the residents he knew, and he decided to wait and see if anyone actually noticed him first.

It hadn't been nearly long enough since Dick had found himself wearing green tights, but at least they hadn't given him the full Robin costume, either one of them. If that had been the case, then he wouldn't have shown up at all, but the Robin Hood costume was a little close for comfort. Still, he could suck it up, pretending the ghosts didn't get the significance and just wanted him to show off his legs.

He leaned over the banister of the balcony, watching the people dancing below and wondering where the music was coming from. And if Bruce was going to show up at all.

It had proved to be a very, very difficult task to walk around the smooth floor with the brand new shoes Badou had been given without slipping and landing on his ass. These shoes were too slick or maybe the floor had been too polished, or maybe he was just used to his old rugged shoes. Maybe that was it.

Either way, he did manage to... slide like a freaking ice skater towards the balcony, where he promptly turned on his heels and leaned against the banister, rose bouquet tucked under his arm as he fished for a lighter in his pocket and lit a cigarette, careful not to burn the fedora hat with the flame. Red hair neatly tied in a low ponytail, Badou looked the part of a true Mafia gangster from the streets of Chicago... well, even if a little bit too skinny.

He wasn't quite sure why he was here. Or why everything seemed so damn funny. All Sano knew was that he was in a skirt again and he didn't mind much. That...might have been due to the amount alcohol he'd consumed earlier.

Certainly made things easier. Sano sighed a bit, leaning against the end of the staircase. He wasn't too drunk to wonder what the heck he was doing here. He hadn't felt this awkward since high school, goddammit.

Well, this party was off to a slow start, Lara thought as she walked down the staircase with a slow but sure stride, taking her time while looking around herself. There were people in the dance floor already and some people around the buffet. No signs of Alice yet, or anyone who she knew better... oh wait, there's Strife over there. Either way, she casually leaned against the rail to wait for Alice and just take a look around, observing the people.

Fuumei walked down the staircase in his ridiculous yet somehow interesting outfit , "Captain Harlock of all fucking costumes, thanks!" Fuumei muttered a curse or two to no one in particular, perhaps the ghosts for coming up with stupid incidences. The golden half-mask he wore made his outfit seem almost prince-like. It felt weird to the usually pink-haired youth to have on a brown wig of a similar cut to the character we was portraying. "I wonder if anyone can recognize me like this." Fuumei thought, amused at his own outfit.

We walked down the stairs, looking around for people he might recognize or seemed approachable. He then wondered if his friends, in particularly the boy of interest, were around and in what get up.

Holding up her skirt, Millay made her way carefully into the hall that was stated on her invitation card. This was probably the first time she had been to an event like that without an escort. After all, she had been brought up as part of the aristocracy.

Wandering around aimlesly, Millay frowned and looked up at the stairs, wondering where she should go off to next.

No, events such as this had never been touched upon, were never a major component in the programming that dictated social interaction (limited as it was for him, he was a combat android, not a courtier). He had an idea of what needed to be done, which codes needed to be observed and followed, the proper behaviors and manners. His time with the Duchess had taught him that much.

Despite himself and his earlier protests, despite the fact that he simply wasn't a great party-goer, Tres Iqus found himself staring at the vast array of stairs that was the Grand Staircase. Through methods just beyond his comprehension, it wasn't his standard AX uniform he bore that night, but the suit of the Rosenkreuz Orden, that swanky little number. It was only through three-and-a-halk nanoseconds of consideration that he bothered to don the black domino mask, that simple un-adorned thing.

He couldn't really pinpoint why he'd let himself be talked into this whole affair. Eiji Hoshi and his strange way of conversing. He would have to look into that at a later date.

This hadn't been the first big ball-type event Elise had attended. Being who she was, Princess of Soleanna and last surviving member of the royal family, she had been to many of these. Pomp and circumstance was nothing new, nor were big productions put on for the sake of others.

But this? She could tell immediately from her position on the grand staircase that was something was different. Maybe it was the people? She had been used to dealing with those in Soleanna's government, that it seemed strange to attend a ball where she hardly knew a soul. Only the scant few she had talked to over the journal and that was all.

But it felt different too. A difference that she found she liked. She wasn't the Princess of Soleanna here, she could just be Elise. Smiling to herself, she made her way slowly down the stairs to mingle with the crowds below.

Hitsugaya decided that he had been lucky, very lucky to get his outfit for this occasion. Simple, straight lines, an austere and high neckline, black clothes that would hopefully avoid much attention, and a black sash to curl around his shoulder and hold his zanpakutou. He supposed the blue from the handle of his weapon would stand out, but they had given him a black sheath for it. Indeed, he was very pleased that he received such a costume, even though he had no idea what it could signify. He figured the ghosts had been quite benevolent to him ever since he came back from that trip of three weeks away from the building.

Perhaps they had understood that his power was not to be messed up with, though he thought that would be wishful thinking on his part.

He looked at the doors, and then back at his girlfriend, hinting a smile. "Can I escape now, or are you going to tell me to stay?" he asked, a somewhat teasing tone in his lilt.

The entrance isn't grand or spectactular, if anything it's silent and dainty as befits the figure as she steps from the lobby and into the doorway. Female, or at least it certainly appears to be female. Carefully styled hair bedecked with glittering hairpieces. Bright red kimono with brilliant gold dragons embroidered about it and black trim. A pure green obi cinched tightly about her waist. Wooden sandals, white tabi and a pure blue fan with silvery trim.

She says not a word. Just lets bright green eyes peer mischeviously about the room from above the fan that hides the lower half of her face.

(( Wanna see what she looks like? TAKE A GANDER! |D Daresay he's a bit hard to identify at the moment. \3a At least at first. ))

A masquerade, huh? Not really so much Dante's cup of tea, but hell.. what did he have better to do? And that Zorro costume hanging in his closet... well, it was just begging him for an excuse to try it on.

And to be honest? It didn't look too shabby on him either. At all. Lucifer's roses were a nice touch too, as careful as he was with their sharp stems.

But other than getting the chance to wear such nice new attire... he also found this to be a good opportunity to scope out just who all was here. Yeah, he knew the kid was for sure- shit, he'd been rooming with him for a while now, but despite the messages over the network, he had still yet to actually see his own twin brother.

... who is supposedly dead.

...

Dante shook the saddening thought out of his mind and stood cooly by the doorway; despite the fact that his face was covered by a dark, mysterious black mask, anyone could tell his real identity from his standard devil may care poise.. Icy eyes scanning the crowd carefully just to see if he could make connection with a familiar face.

"... Hn. Seems this place is more populated than I thought," he bemused to himself aloud, rubbing his nose from underneath the mask in evidence of his on-developing boredom.
