Cid Kramer's Institute for Psychic Research (fondly referred to as simply 'the Institute) is exactly what it sounds like. It is a place for people who have special gifts and want to learn more about them. A home that is also a school, of sorts, teaching them how to control and use their abilities to better themselves, and the world around them.

The Institute was founded by Cid Kramer in the late nineties. Founded initially to help children who have special gifts, but were unaware of how to use them properly, it has quickly expanded to worldwide recognition as the best institute for Psychics in North America. Now it is the home to children and adults alike, all of which are either seeking help with understanding and controlling their gifts, or those who have mastered their abilities and wish to help others do the same.

The Institute isn't a school. The young people who live in the house have to attend high school like every other teenager in America. It is located in Claremont, California.

Every afternoon, the inhabitants of the Institute, on top of attending classes at Claremont High School, take part in psychic 'testing'. This is a series of exercises that help strengthen one's control of their abilities. It can be anything from influencing a random number generator (psychokinetics) to spending time in a sensory deprivation tank (clairvoyants, though anyone is able to take part of this exercise to heighten their mental alertness). Those who have already graduated high school either do testing between classes if they are attending college, or in the morning, and are given 'free time' in the afternoons. A number of non-psychic volunteers come in each day, in shifts, to help with testing. The labs are found on the ground floor of the house.

All inhabitants of the Institute are given a monthly 'allowance' by Cid. The amount varies by age, though the older members are strongly encouraged to seek outside employment. Those who have 'graduated' and stay on to help run the Institute are paid a very fair salary.

Student rooms are found on the second, third, and forth floors of the house. Rooms house two students of the same gender, and there is one adjoining bathroom to connect a block of two rooms. Cid and the other adults living in the Institute have suites on the top floor, and most entertain the 'open door' policy.

Cid Kramer -- addressed by students as Mr. Kramer -- reserves the right to discipline students who are found breaking the house rules. Consistent or habitual rule breaking can result in expulsion.
