It was Spider-Man who found the library in the early hours of this morning. Patrolling was still an unnecessary activity on the whole, but Peter had been restless and the costume was always good at giving him ways to burn off some energy, even without muggers and pickpockets to beat up. Even some good old webslinging in the middle of the night could be productive -- and, indeed, it had been. He'd swung right over a building he'd never noticed before, after all.

It was Peter Parker who could be found at a computer near the entrance of the library, though, having changed into civilian clothes as soon as he'd realised what he'd discovered. Spider-Man in a library sounded like the set-up for a bad joke, but Peter Parker, high school science teacher and resident nerd? This was like home.

He'd been here since around four in the morning, poring over the supply of science textbooks on the computer system (having already skimmed through the pile of real books beside him). Finally he had a chance to see what sort of advances they'd made over the last twenty-five years! Or at least the almost-twenty between his time and the time this place was abandoned. Still, twenty years was a long time in biochemistry; the details of this failed HIV vaccine in particular were fascinating, but there were plenty of other things to study, too.

He'd only vaguely registered the lights turning on outside, and certainly hadn't noticed his own hunger yet. This would be why he was always pretty skinny without Aunt May around to remind him when meal times were.
