Last Stand

[info]corpuscles
OOC: Takes place during the big AU plot and totally backdated to then.

The final showdown was something to behold, but in all the motion and movement, two of the women became separated from the rest, the sound of heavy boots on the ground after them as they found a corner to hide in.

Neither Jennifer or Kris were particularly physically strong, and Jennifer's mind was still trying to recover from having used her powers, so the trembles were wracking her body and she needed as much support as any injured person.

"Stop!" Tobias shouted, his weapon drawn and raised as he chased them, shooting two electric bullets after the women. Against his other leg rested his pistol that fired brass stakes with a silver tip, effective on the human and were enemies they had. He flicked his wrist to recharge his gun and pulled the other. "Submit and be purged or I will shoot!"

He was one of the best marksmen in this unit. Not the best, but one of them.

Dopplegangers

[info]psychicnotcrazy
There was an odd silence surrounding a particular individual the morning that Jenny Lowe had decided she was going to take a wander near Lincoln Park. She had yet to go out there, having been actively discouraged by strangers because of the news and the stories of monsters that lived behind the wall. She had been compelled there, an odd buzzing sound in her mind that had meant she was drawn towards it, if not just to find the source of it, but she was distracted by the silence and she'd walked towards it, helpless to fight as she came face to face with... herself.

A version of herself that was slimmer, had longer hair and was emitting silence.

Chance Meeting (Fugitive Kris & Regular Kris)

[info]doingmything
The fugitive Kris had been walking the back alleys and the shadows of this Chicago for the last few hours, trying to go as far as she could without losing her way back.

She was beginning to think she'd never find anything when the sounds of a scuffle stopped her dead in her tracks. Immediately she hugged the wall and edged along it, peering around the corner to watch from a safe distance. Kris wasn't special, not like Francess, or strong, like the vampires, but she was good at being sneaky.

It was one of the talents that had at times served their cause well, even if their cause was mostly centered around running for their lives a lot of the time.

Exacting Justice (Inquisitor Bethany)

[info]hard_edge
"Are you telling me that you consort with demons?"

"Duh," the girl drawled with a snap of bubblegum a few moments later. "I dunno what century you're from, but vampires are the hottest thing since..." Her voice trailed off and she looked at her friends.

"Justin Timberlake!"

The brunette in the short skirt and with the incessant chewing and snapping of gum grinned from ear to ear. "Oh yeah, he's hot! Like super hot!"

Going Further Afield (Fugitives Alec & Jenny)

[info]corpuscles
After their eventful landing in what they now knew to be some place called 'Lincoln Park', Jenny and Alec had branched out to see whether or not they could find anything that would be of help to the others. They needed medical supplies, food, water and clean clothes, preferably of the kind that the women here wore. The tattered remains of Jenny's dress hung at her knees and she fiddled with the hem as they walked, loose threads tickling her skin.

They'd branched out pretty far from their initial landing spot, but now exhaustion was beginning to get the best of them. They were both half-starved and exhausted, the adrenaline coursing through their brains not being enough to keep them going for long. Jenny's hands were already shaking, she couldn't remember the last time she'd had a decent meal. The vampires were not the only ones that struggled to eat. In fact, they probably had it easier as many - including Jenny herself once or twice - had offered themselves to be a small snack to tide the vampire over for a while.

As they had walked side by side, probably looking every bit as tired and strung out as they were, Jenny's hand had slipped into Alec's for the reassurance, and also so that they wouldn't get separated in the crowds. Apparently, there were people out and having fun at such a late time of night. Well, it was early in the morning, she supposed, and the people that were out did look like they were the last dregs of a heavy night of drinking and partying, whooping and cheering and vomiting in nearby bins.

"We need to find somewhere to rest, and we need to get something to dress that cut," she said quietly, knowing that their base was somewhere behind then, but there was not a lot that they could do to get back there now. They needed to get supplies and things first, and the cut on Alec's head looked nasty. She knew the one on hers had stopped bleeding, at least. She didn't think she could walk that far, and more than that, she was hungry and dirty and she wanted to just get clean and find somewhere to sleep for a while that wasn't a bunk or a hard, wooden or stone floor. She wrinkled her nose and then looked up at him with something approaching a grin, adding teasingly, "And you still need to have a wash."

Out In The Field

[info]hairsbreadth
The Inquisitors on a whole were cold and methodical, unaffected by emotion and untroubled by the acts of brutality taken out by their own hand.

Tseng was one of the colder more unattached Inquisitors, swearing his undying loyalty to their ideals and giving all of his time to them. He hadn't allowed himself to be distracted by the pleasures of the flesh or the complications of marriage.

After having split away from Connor, Tseng had taken to the streets of this Chicago - to delve deeper into this new world, learn its culture and become accustomed to the inner workings of this new universe.

Night-time Wanderings

[info]infortunium
(Takes place before this)

Having been given their orders, Inquisitors Bryson and Maragos split off from the group. He had left his more obvious weaponry behind at the base they had set up and he did feel quite naked without it. He kept reaching down for the reassuring handle of his pistols but they weren't there. Of course they weren't. It was improper to walk around with such weaponry in an unfamiliar world, and the worry of being picked up by the authorities of this place before they had established themselves as friends rather than enemies was on that they were all painfully aware of.

Tobias frowned, his long legs covering the ground in quick and confident steps as he and Victoria moved towards civilisation. They had seen people everywhere, women in scarcely anything, men being chastised by their women (most unusual), disrespect and defiance everywhere he looked.

It was very late at night, they passed a clock that put it well into the wee hours and he wondered why these people were all out.

Disturbance in the Force

[info]izzy_shaw
Izzy leaned back in her chair as her computer downloaded the data from her energy monitors, now scattered in a half dozen locations around the city with three of them either in or near Lincoln Park. It still seemed to be the nexus for most spikes in supernatural activity so the tech-witch had decided it was only logical to have that area get the most complete coverage.

The past few weeks had been a blur, with the most memorable event being the rescue of Kris. She hadn't seen Hayden yet, but her gear had made it back to the house the next day so Izzy was sure she'd bump into him soon.

Dawn Foraging

[info]leah_allen
Leah followed a pace behind Sonya as the other hybrid crossed a wide boulevard and into a nearby alley, the sun's rays just beginning to peek over the horizon. She would rather have been with one of the vampires, they seemed to understand her better than any of the others, but they were all bedding down in the abandoned building they'd taken over as a refugee.

Strange sights in the morning light. )
