Resolutions (Toby's Epilogue) September 3rd 2014 Cannibalistic Hillbilly country Some time when cannibal hillbillies would be hungry
They were going to get eaten by a wandering hillbilly, or that thing from Jeepers Creepers, he knew it. He was desperately trying to get cell reception and it just wasn't working. It was getting to a point where he was concinced the world was against him and wanted them all to get eaten.
At least he could kick a little bit of ass with the stuff Kris taught him - he hoped she and Hayden were doing alright - and Alec was bad ass, so he would be more than fine, and he was also convinced that Jenny could open up a can of mental whoop-ass.
Or, if all else failed, then he could set Wolf going to hump their attacker to death.
As it was, the dog was frolicking, Alec was staring at the car in despair, Jenny was giggling and he was keeping an eye out for zombies, or aliens, or random hungry man-beasts that eat eyes. Toby liked his eyes, as useless as they were without glasses.
He scratched at the scar on his neck and sighed softly, putting his cell back into his pocket and leaning against the hood, both hands flat against the cooling metal.
"We're gonna get eaten." he announced - again - after a while. "I'm so not getting eaten first."
They had been at the side of the road for God only knew how long now, as a direct result of Alec's sabbatical and Toby's complete inability to say no to his best friend.
When he'd seen that white light, he'd thought about Kelly, wished he could have some peace with what happened to her and he'd felt a calm come over him, the guilt... he felt it lift off his shoulders. He didn't remember much from that day, but it wasn't too long after that Alec had asked him to come on a road trip (over and over and over and over until Toby had relented and said 'yes'), leaving the coffee shop in the hands of some capable staff and Hannah - his manager - when she got back off her holiday.
Everyone seemed to be happy, people seemed to have gotten something that they wanted. Kris got Hayden, Alec got a lot of time off to travel (though Toby knew that they would be stopping in at hospitals so Alec could get his fix of workaholism).
Life was good, potentially being eaten aside.
"I hadn't wanted to suggest this until now, since you're attemtping to be all manly and shit, but... we might as well just call the breakdown service. They can fix the tyre, stop us from being attacked by zombies..."
Alec's indignant retort and reluctant agreement had him laughing as he dialled the number and found someone to save them.
