Expansion (Joseph's Epilogue)
February 11, 2015
12 p.m.
Chicago...
"Black, left corner pocket," Joseph drawled around the wisps of smoke that took longer than seemed absolutely necessary to escape the corners of his mouth.
There was a sound of disbelief from his fellow pool player who merely rolled his eyes and slapped down another fifty bucks. "You'll never make it!"
Joseph snorted and shook his head, one errant strand of hair draping itself over one dark eye. "Watch and learn." He drew back the cue slowly and eased his palm around the curve of wood, almost like he was careessing his lover, and eased into the shot. The movement was fluid and the execution absolutely flawless, meaning the black ball rolled into the left corner pocket without any trouble whatsoever.
"Goddamnit!"
Joseph merely straightened his back and offered a smirk, picking up the money in his left hand where a ring sat on his ring finger, signalling that he was a happily taken man with plans of a future with the woman he loved. "You live and learn." Not that his opponent seemed to want or value the piece of advice given to him by Joseph, especially as he was now $200 bucks shorter than he had been when he'd first stepped through the doors to the pool hall.
One of many at the moment, Joseph had expanded.
In the time since the whiteout he'd come to terms with a lot of things, especially from his past. More specifically the events surrounding his mother's death. There had been conversations that some would say that only the gifted could create, gifted people such as the Powers That Be. He'd played some sort of role in the big chess game that was life and his reward was one wish and that had been to speak to his mother one last time, find peace in knowing things he'd never known before and also get her blessing for his new life, one without so much death.
He bid his opponent away with a flick of his fingers, smirking at the way in which the younger man slouched off. Joseph exhaled smoke and pushed away from the table when he caught sight of Robert - a supplier of particular items - that he'd become good friends with. "Did you manage to get what I asked for?"
Robert nodded and together they disappeared into Joseph's office, Robert opening a small cage a few moments later. It took less than thirty seconds for a small very fluffy kitten to come padding out, taking a good long look around. "She'll love him," Joseph said with a smile as he picked up the kitten who simply batted at his loose strands of hair. Mary Sue had made a good run out of life, but she'd eventually passed, and Joseph felt it was time Rhiannon showered her love on another kitten.
This time, a boy.
