The Major picked up an orange tray from a stack of trays at the end of the lunch counter and then placed it onto the stainless steel track. She gazed up at the menu as she slowly slid the tray along the track as the line moved. The line was made up of professionals from the fields of bio-sciences and medicine who were here to attend to the three day conference in Cedar Creek, California. Most were here to learn about new research in sub-terrestrial biology and related science. This was one of the first such international conferences in the relatively new field sponsored by Federal, state government agencies and civilian corporations.
