Victoria Maragos???? [08 Jun 2009|11:18am]
The life of an Inquisitor was not often a happy one. Even common advertising seemed to take account of the new popular culture, incorporating otherworldly species into the presented images and assorted slogans. Victoria saw no distinction between angelic and demonic representatives, though... To her, they were all the latter. Humanity had been corrupted with a hellish taint and such a state of affairs could not simply be left to exist. To think that such creatures could wander free, was not the only worry: The Empire no longer existed in any meaningful form and, so far as she could tell, if Her Majesty's Royal Inquisition had ever even existed, then it must have been extremely short-lived, for she could locate no record of it.

Practically everything she had known, believed in and fought for, seemed to be for nought. By following one group of exiles, they had discovered an entire global nest of chaotic horror. Where surgical strikes had sufficed before, now came the quiet contemplation of the inevitable.

Until then, however, the brunette wandered on a new patrol. Night had descended and she fully intended to catch herself one of this world's undead. Her people needed answers and she knew just how to extract them. To that end, she was travelling, alone, down dark alleys, making herself a deliberate apparent target. Human assailants, she was more than able to counter, but if the Inquisitor could just lure one of the fanged breed, then she could bring her full training into force.

Juliet had enjoyed patrolling with Connor but this night she was just stopping off on her way home from the Club, the news from Izzy about the disturbances putting her on a fine edge. The opening up of Lincoln Park had been done, her father had agreed to her suggestion they invest in at least an apartment block in there, and the building had been secured. She hadn't told Rhiannon about it yet, was going to keep it as a surprise, just a little something Juliet had been up to while Rhi had been off getting her 'mojo' back. And Father had been somewhat intrigued, and impressed, with his daughter's interest in investing.

She'd taken a little bit of a detour and was near the entrance to the 'New Lincoln Park' when she saw a lone figure... )

Walking and reading and trying to believe what she's just seen... [08 Jun 2009|01:19pm]
As Juliet waited for Hayden's response she checked her emails and found the one from Rhiannon, shaking her head a little and laughing. Her thumbs flew across the screen as she typed in a response, not wanting to use the voice-recognition method as she had no idea who might be around.

Hey Rhi and all,
Just to let you know there's definitely dopplegangers on the ground, and they're here to help, or so they say. Just had a real headspin of a talk with a non-vampiric Victoria, and you'll never guess what her name is, or who her husband is! Oh, and she knew you too, Rhi, or at least your other you. They're here after someone, or something, and she was out looking to bag herself a vamp, which is still spinning me out, sorry, it was just one of those kind of meets.

She sent the email after making sure she'd done a Reply all' and looked at the screen again for a moment before continuing walking back toward her car.

Sympathizer [08 Jun 2009|05:26pm]
[ mood | okay ]

Clunk. Clunk. Rattle. Clunk.

The green recycling bin was slowly filling up, and Bastian listened to the sounds the objects made as he tossed them in. Beer bottles, mostly, along with empty soup cans and the occasional aluminum Pepsi can. Recycling was something he'd gotten into because everyone in his neighborhood did it, and now dropping things into the box for pickup on the designated day rather than throwing them in the trash was habit.

It was just past dusk, the sky a dark purple fading to black, and the Cajun had finished his dinner before cleaning up the kitchen. There was a cinnamon-flavored toothpick in his mouth, and he shifted it from the left corner to the right as he finished depositing the last of the bottles in the bin. His large frame threw a shadow in the last of the light, resembling a bear as he shambled back towards the house to finish reading the daily paper, a ritual while he listened to the television. The street was quiet, the smell of a city summer heavy in the air. He was going to sleep like a log that night.

Resisting Temptation? [08 Jun 2009|07:42pm]
This world had so much potential Leah was half afraid it was all some strange dream. The hybrid had seen evidence with her own eyes that the supernatural world and the humans lived side by side, and there hadn't been any sign of an inquisition in this dimension either.

She'd managed to steal more clothes after finding that some people hung their laundry out to dry on clotheslines in their back yards. After trial and error she had found enough that fit her to have an outfit that blended in a little better than the pants and shirt. This skirt and small top that left her midriff bare was much more to her liking, and aside from appreciative stares from some of the men there had been no comments.

Now the young hybrid sat in a nearby park to the abandoned home the fugitives had settled into, watching the people walk around without a care in the world.

Oceans of Possibility [08 Jun 2009|07:47pm]
"Ruben...?"

Francess crept across the blankets on the floor. The area of the old Paragon pharmacy that once contained pharmaceuticals was now a sleeping pallet for the fugitives. It was a safe corner, tucked away from the windows. It gave them a place to hide from sunlight and mount a defensive, if anyone broke into the entrance. She felt a lump that might be someone's leg. "Sorry," she whispered and kept going, towards the wall where the vampire slept through the day. On her knees, Francess stopped by his side. She tucked her hands between her thighs. Her hair curtained her face as she leaned over him and tried to make out his features in the dark.

"Psst... Ruben, are you awake?" She bit her lip.

"I'm awake, girl. What're you creepin' around for? Ought to be asleep." He himself hardly slept anymore, his slumber disturbed by bad memories of the last few years of running and hiding. He'd brought the gun with him when he'd finally laid down, and he could feel it on his other side where Francess couldn't see it. The vampire turned his head, felt long hair tickling his cheeks and chin. "You okay? My turn for watch?"

Going Further Afield (Fugitives Alec & Jenny) [08 Jun 2009|10:54pm]
[ mood | exhausted ]

After their eventful landing in what they now knew to be some place called 'Lincoln Park', Jenny and Alec had branched out to see whether or not they could find anything that would be of help to the others. They needed medical supplies, food, water and clean clothes, preferably of the kind that the women here wore. The tattered remains of Jenny's dress hung at her knees and she fiddled with the hem as they walked, loose threads tickling her skin.

They'd branched out pretty far from their initial landing spot, but now exhaustion was beginning to get the best of them. They were both half-starved and exhausted, the adrenaline coursing through their brains not being enough to keep them going for long. Jenny's hands were already shaking, she couldn't remember the last time she'd had a decent meal. The vampires were not the only ones that struggled to eat. In fact, they probably had it easier as many - including Jenny herself once or twice - had offered themselves to be a small snack to tide the vampire over for a while.

As they had walked side by side, probably looking every bit as tired and strung out as they were, Jenny's hand had slipped into Alec's for the reassurance, and also so that they wouldn't get separated in the crowds. Apparently, there were people out and having fun at such a late time of night. Well, it was early in the morning, she supposed, and the people that were out did look like they were the last dregs of a heavy night of drinking and partying, whooping and cheering and vomiting in nearby bins.

"We need to find somewhere to rest, and we need to get something to dress that cut," she said quietly, knowing that their base was somewhere behind then, but there was not a lot that they could do to get back there now. They needed to get supplies and things first, and the cut on Alec's head looked nasty. She knew the one on hers had stopped bleeding, at least. She didn't think she could walk that far, and more than that, she was hungry and dirty and she wanted to just get clean and find somewhere to sleep for a while that wasn't a bunk or a hard, wooden or stone floor. She wrinkled her nose and then looked up at him with something approaching a grin, adding teasingly, "And you still need to have a wash."

Exacting Justice (Inquisitor Bethany) [08 Jun 2009|11:20pm]
[ mood | predatory ]

"Are you telling me that you consort with demons?"

"Duh," the girl drawled with a snap of bubblegum a few moments later. "I dunno what century you're from, but vampires are the hottest thing since..." Her voice trailed off and she looked at her friends.

"Justin Timberlake!"

The brunette in the short skirt and with the incessant chewing and snapping of gum grinned from ear to ear. "Oh yeah, he's hot! Like super hot!"

Chance Meeting (Fugitive Kris & Regular Kris) [08 Jun 2009|11:33pm]
[ mood | shocked ]

The fugitive Kris had been walking the back alleys and the shadows of this Chicago for the last few hours, trying to go as far as she could without losing her way back.

She was beginning to think she'd never find anything when the sounds of a scuffle stopped her dead in her tracks. Immediately she hugged the wall and edged along it, peering around the corner to watch from a safe distance. Kris wasn't special, not like Francess, or strong, like the vampires, but she was good at being sneaky.

It was one of the talents that had at times served their cause well, even if their cause was mostly centered around running for their lives a lot of the time.
