Druella is trying to bring the niceties of pureblood society to Crazytown, Madkingsland, by organizing tea parties and soirées and whatnot. I am actually not kidding. She's already at work deciding how to manipulate people with just the invitations alone, right alongside patiently replicating a few of Dorea's favoured playthings while Dorea describes them.

Where does she intend to host such things? Why, Grimmauld Place, of course. *facedesk* SHE DOESN'T EVEN WANT THE DAMN HOUSE (I CERTAINLY DON'T WANT THE ~TOKEN OF BLOODLINE WAR~!), but she's decided it's a pretty useful pawn to getting things she wants. Plus, it's the principle of the matter, and goddamn, apparently Druella Black is not going to halfass the principle. She pretty much has refused to go more than a foot outside that house since the EPIC "YOU ARE NO BROTHER OF MINE" stuff (only if Cygnus is still inside it and if it's necessary, like meeting Dorea outside to bring her in the house) and so is PAYING PEOPLE IN SHINY MAGIC GOODS to run her errands for her.

That said, AM needs to stop swallowing my soul because I have SO MUCH other stuff to DO. I wanna play at TOS, omg. :/


VICKIE. TWO QUESTIONS, the first just my curiosity, the second more logistics.
1) Where the heck is Wally at this point, the Three Broomsticks?
2) WHEN did she leave? Dani said Cy's pretty much ignoring her after that last response to him, so did she pack her toothbrush and leave yesterday? And was there shrieking/a throwdown because Druella barricaded them in earlier, or only until Druella dropped what was keeping her in?

Anyone else having this problem?

I was really behind in friending people from AM but I think I've gotten most everyone I would likely to be plotting with/talking about the game with on a more-than-once basis, so if you've clicked over to figure out who this is because the contact list isn't handy, HI! This is Jessi at AM (Lily, Druella & Owen).

So Lily ripped Alice's face off, and it's a small thing compared to the Epic Drama and not even close to the one Lily RAWR attack on the former Hermione, but it's pretty significant to me, as sometimes even I forget she can be a hot-headed snot who overreacts, so I'm always HEY NOW STOP THAT and kind of want to hide when she does it.

Also, I realize this is kind of silly and whatnot, but it keeps happening and I don't get why and I'm still assimilating WHAT ALL IS GOING ON IN CRAZY TOWN and needed a five minute break, so: I REALLY DON'T GET WHY CHARACTERS KEEP CONFUSING DRUELLA WITH WALBURGA AND VICE VERSA.

It was a very pleasant holiday. My dearest Chazpure and Odogoddess drove up from Los Angeles, and a friend of theirs from the Bay Area joined us as well. It had been a long time since the friend had eaten a "real" Thanksgiving dinner, so I did the whole traditional thing, with roast turkey, cornbread dressing with giblets, home-made cranberry sauce, baked fresh yams, biscuits and a relish tray. We had home-made apple pie for dessert as well. We were, also traditionally, as stuffed as the turkey.

I joined four HP fan fic exchanges this year, but I turned in the last of those last week, so that was off of my conscience and I was able to plow ahead on my NaNoWriMo novel. My house guests had fan fic of their own to write, have been heads-down over their laptops, and did not need to be entertained. I was free to wallow in the improbable plot lines that evolve through NaNo. I hit 50,567 words on Friday morning and posted the text to the word count validation program. Winner! That gives me a nice cozy feeling of accomplishment. I still have plot left over, so I'll be working on the book for the next week or so. After that, I'll let it rest for a month and then start making my revisions and corrections during January. That will be a nice way to start off the new year.

I also squeezed in a few pages for a monthly electronic science fiction apa that I joined a couple of years ago.

I feel incredibly productive!

This has been a very nice holiday and I hope that all of you who celebrate Thanksgiving had one that was equally enjoyable.

So I caught wind of this post/essay/meta on Lily tonight.

What struck me most was not the content itself (though it makes me happy, because I love Lily and it's annoying to see people tear her apart rather than embrace both her humanity and flaws alongside her strengths), but that fact that 1) it's necessary for fans to defend against such a wide range of misogynistic bashing of female characters (I can remember Anti-Narcissa essays back in the day that made me SEETHE) and 2) I can only recall a handful of essays that cover a somewhat sane positions on canon/interpretation, but I can think of comms full of the Lily-bashing/female-character/any-character bashing. I'm sure the reality is not so uneven, but in my mind it very much is.

Ultimately, it always comes back to this - why do some fans, fanfic writers, roleplayers, etc feel the need to tear down everyone around a character just to make their own more sympathetic? We may not always agree with the creator, but we were still provided with toys to play with that have depths we can explore simply by logically assessing the canon. Is is that people are insecure about their ability to rewrite characters as they are in canon, is it just laziness, or is it speaking to a need to make their character one hundred percent right?

For me, something that has always put me off a fic or a character bio is the moment they make someone the convenient villain to get what they want, without any thought for how it demeans their own character to do so. Be it tortured!Sirius or ignored!Andromeda or beaten-by-Ron!Hermione or delicate-flower!Draco or whatever, in the end it always feels like it's taken away from or trivialized that character (Sirius escaped to save his life, rather than it be because he was not being treated as a person with opinions and feelings of his own, Andromeda ran away because her family didn't love her and Ted was the only one who did, instead of it being she changed her purist mind for one man and retained other prejudices, etc) rather than make them sympathetic and layered.

Ugh, and I should so be sleeping, family things to do in a few hours!

Three hours ago an old character grabbed hold of my brain and I made the hold (yes, goodbye for the moment Hugo, maybe if I can be awesomely active with my four I'll still app him in a few weeks).

Eight minutes ago I submitted the completed app. No, Louis is still not done. HE WILL BE THOUGH. I just want to be sure he isn't going to infringe on Cassie's niche in the game too badly because I think they are more than a bit alike and wah I am an anxious and fretful person.

So, anyhow, I've potentially unleashed Owen Gibbon upon the world again. This is the character I'm actually embarrassed to be "seen with" and yet I'm playing him again. Craaaazy. It's not that he's going to be mean or violent or visibly purist or anything, he'll be a perfect gentleman and nice to everyone and protective of children and constantly sending little trinkets to the ladies that catch his attention, whether they're single or married. It's that he's such an ICKY PIECE OF WORK underneath it all AND I DON'T LIKE HIM AT ALL. I want to slap a warning sticker on him so characters don't get taken in by him, because otherwise it's likely a lot will because he just SUCKS PEOPLE IN. AND I JUST FLAIL.

But, umm. Yes. Provided he's accepted, hide your females.

IN ALL MY RP YEARS I'VE NEVER CHALLENGED A HOLD SOMEONE MADE BEFORE ME. Actually, I don't think I've ever been challenged after making the primary hold, but if I was, it must not have panned out. It's really nerve wracking, I don't know how people do it regularly.

So, PB suggestions? I need a PB for Neville Longbottom, age 21. He's an alternate timeline Neville, so there is another Neville already in play, PB'd by Daniel Cudmore. Originally I was aiming for a blonder PB, but with Daniel being dark-haired it won't work to have a dark-haired Neville and a blonde-haired Neville, at least to me. I'd like my Neville to look different, not just because even the dopple characters need different PBs, but because his life was very distinctly different. Someone thinner, serious and nervous looking, but with the potential to not be either in some icons, would be good.

Also, Megan. NOW YOU REALLY NEED TO DO GINNY.
