Ilinca | Илинка ([info]wildrage) wrote in [info]cirque_rp,

Who: Kit & Ilinca
What: Don't let me interrupt your dinner
When: October 26th, after sundown
Where: Secluded place on the Cirque grounds
Warnings: Vampire shenanigans, at the least

It was not uncommon for Ilinca to be out walking before or after she was performing, enjoying the quiet darkness before she had to go and entertain again. She did enjoy her job at the Cirque, it was just that sometimes it grated on her nerves. So she looked for the dark, the quiet, the out of the way places where she could be by herself for a while.

The problem was that this time, with this place, someone else had gotten there first.

She hadn't meant to interrupt Kit's dinner, really she hadn't. But now that she knew what was happening, it was a bit hard to look away. She'd never seen a vampire really feed before, not this deeply. She knew it was dangerous to stay, the blood of her kind smelled mouth-watering to vampires. Still. She might stay a moment, but that didn't mean she couldn't be quiet.

Likewise, it wasn't uncommon for Kit to use the more isolated places within the Cirque grounds to lure an unsuspecting victim to feast upon. Whilst he preferred to hunt away from his fellow performers, sometimes it wasn't possible due to the scheduling of his show, and that night was one of those times. As soon as the gates had opened and people began to pour in, the escapologist watched and waited from the sidelines for the perfect prey.

By the time the almost overpowering scent of Ilinca's blood met his nose, Kit had almost drained the young, beautiful human woman dry. He held her body close to his own, arms cradling her almost like a lover, his face hidden in her neck and partly concealed by her loose flowing blonde hair. He resisted the urge to break away at the new, enticing smell and instead finished before pulling away, his eyes closed as he slowly ran his tongue across his bottom lip. Sure that he hadn't spilled a drop, he carefully lowered the woman to the ground before taking a step back and at last opening his eyes.

Swallowing hard, Kit turned his gaze towards the new scent, towards Ilinca, and held it for several moments before a smile slowly crept onto his face. "We weren't expecting company," he said, glancing down at his victim briefly. He could no longer hear the weak struggle of her heartbeat. "Good evening to you."

"I suspected not," Ilinca replied. "Apologies if I've disturbed you, I just wasn't expecting to find you here." She glanced down at the woman on the ground, one eyebrow raised. "I take it you were hungry," she continued. "There's been no lack of prey since we've arrived, it's keeping my energy quite high."

Looking up from the freshly dead kill on the ground, Kit shrugged nonchalantly. "I hate performing on an empty stomach," he admitted, carefully moving around the woman and approaching Ilinca. He could still smell her blood, enticing and delicious, but his appetite was sated for now. Plus he was more than aware of what had happened to the men who had attempted to take from her in the past.

"The city has its perks," he said, slipping his hands into his pockets. After a quick glance around, he continued. "Would you prefer to be alone? I figure that's why you've come here, of all places."

"It does tend to get uncomfortable," she agreed, sparing another glance for the dead woman. She held her ground as Kit approached, despite the Ringmaster's rules, and knowing him for a long time, there would always be a degree of wariness for her around vampires. At least with him it was much less than usual.

She shrugged. "I would not mind your company," she replied. "I simply found that I needed to get away from the teeming masses. I'll have to face them eventually, of course, but I needed to get away for a few moments."

Kit's smile brightened at Ilinca's words. It felt good to not be dismissed from her company, to know that she was at least tolerant of his presence despite wanting to get away from others. In truth, he could understand how she was feeling. After being a member of the Cirque for so long, he knew how it felt to be overwhelmed by so much activity.

"I promise to be quiet," he said, extracting one hand and holding it up as though swearing an oath. "Would you like to sit? Take the weight off your feet for a few minutes."

Her lips twitched in a small smile. "Quiet, not silent," she told him. "Although yes, I think I will." She folded herself down onto an empty trunk, crossing her ankles in front of her. "Soon I will have to go strap myself into my heels. But now right now. Tonight I want to put it off for as long as possible."

Watching as Ilinca settled down, Kit lowered himself to the ground by her feet. Looking up at her, his smile faded at the mention of her putting off work. "Torture devices if I saw some," he said, glancing briefly down at her feet before catching her eye again. "But I guess that's not the main reason you want to put off going back. Something else on your mind? Or do you just need a break from the daily grind?"

Ilinca snorted. "Some of them are that," she agreed. "Some of the girls wear them so high, I expect them to fall over in a strong breeze." She shrugged. "But that is their business, I suppose."

She looked down at him, a more serious expression on her face. "I assume you've heard about the dancers disappearing?" she asked. "And the atmosphere at V&V is becoming more hostile with each passing evening. Everyone is twitchy, on edge. Security is looking into it, but I have not heard anything beyond that."

Kit scoffed at the mental image Ilinca's words conjured up, sure that she was right no matter how funny it was to think of. He couldn't imagine ever having to put himself through the same tortures that women did on a daily basis. "They look pretty, sure, but at what cost?" he asked, amusement lacing his tone.

The mood sobered then, as Ilinca turned the conversation towards the recent events that had begun to impact the Cirque, and Kit found himself frowning at what he heard. "Nasty business," he said with a nod. "If I had to guess, I'd put it down to the place. This Tower has seen so much death in its time. I can't imagine it was ever going to be smooth sailing, not with so much bad energy here."

"If I had my way, I'd dance barefoot in a white dress, the way my kind has for centuries," Ilinca told him. "Or next to nothing. But I do not think some of their hearts could handle it." She winked at Kit. "And the cost is not wanting to stand until noon the next day."

Ilinca sighed. "Da," she agreed. "It has. But to target our girls? I cannot pretend to know much about spirits, although I would like to know the reason behind it. And why it riles up the patrons so much, it's making them even more impossible than usual."

Unable to stop himself, Kit raked his eyes over Ilinca's form and took in the sight before returning his gaze to her face. "I'm sure you're a picture," he said boldly. He never had been one for coyness. "But I'm tempted to agree that those who see it would never be the same again."

Kit fell silent as he listened, the information that Ilinca was sharing rattling around in his head. He couldn't be certain of a reason for the change in attitudes of the patrons or why the energy surrounding the Cirque had shifted so suddenly, though he did have a suspicion. "Maybe the humans are sensing the energy of the spirits in some way," he suggested. "The spirits themselves are angry or riled up by our presence here, and their auras are so strong that even those who aren't supernatural can feel it."

For just a moment, Ilinca's eyes went dark. Men were always looking at her that way, the only difference was, she ended up draining most of them of their essence. She couldn't do that with Kit, although that didn't mean she couldn't enjoy the attention. "Well you're welcome to find out, should you catch me in the forest one night," she told him.

She nodded. "It would take a very angry or rattled spirit to make itself known to a mundane, don't you think?" she asked, tilting her head as she thought. "It must be driving Ghede mad, I've seen him rattling around the Tower at all hours. One has to wonder, as well, what it was that stirred them in the first place, beyond our presence. It can't just be that, London has its own supernatural community."

"Is that a promise?" Kit asked, a smirk tugging at his lips at the mere thought of catching Ilinca in the forest. He had meant what he had said about her being a picture, the idea of seeing her in her element more than a little enticing.

Nodding along, Kit remained silent as he thought on the topic. Ilinca wasn't wrong; London had its own community of creatures like them, ones that didn't drop in and take off. "Unless there are some Cirque members in particular who are causing the spirits here to go crazy," he said, though his voice had dropped in volume. "Or there's more power to feed on with all of us here, which is causing the negative spirits to get a boost."

"A threat, a promise, whichever," Ilinca answered, smiling enigmatically at him. "At least I can tell you it's likely you'll return from the dance. Most men are not so lucky."

"I would venture a guess that your second theory seems more likely," she said, shrugging. "This place is steeped in magic, down to the tent stakes, it makes sense that some entities might be drawn to it. But who can say for sure? It is not my area of expertise, but I will be very glad once it's sorted. I do not like feeling like I need to look over my shoulder all the time."

With his smirk still in place, Kit brought a hand up to rest over his dormant heart. "I'm touched," he said, his tone teasing despite the truth of his words. It was a relief to have such a reassurance, even if it was possible that Ilinca had only promised such a thing due to her Cirque contract.

Listening closely, Kit mused upon Ilinca's comments. It did seem likely that whatever was going on, it was only made worse by the severe magical presence of the Cirque. "You and me both," he eventually said, casting a brief glance around at their surroundings. "As nice as it is to have visited home for me, I'm ready to move on now. Somewhere less charged."

Ilinca just kept smiling her enigmatic smile. She didn't go after coworkers regardless, it was bad for keeping the peace. Also it made Kennet cross, and no one liked making Kennet more cross. "There is a joke in there somewhere," she replied. "Or several, depending how you take it."

"I do like London, but I won't be sad when we move on," she agreed. "I've shopped, I've seen the sights, I am ready to leave. Then energy here is thick enough to cut, and almost none of it good. And we seem to be at the center of it all, and drawing more of it in upon ourselves with each passing night."

Kit's smile turned mischievous then, amusement dancing in his eyes. "You can take it however many ways you want," he said, though it was quite clear that by it, he really meant me. Lighthearted flirtation between friends, especially given the tenseness of recent days, kept things interesting.

Nodding along in agreement, Kit picked up where Ilinca left off. "It won't be too long now," he said, hoping more than anything that he was right. "We'll pack up, move on, and put this godforsaken Tower and everything that's happened here behind us."

"Careful whom you say such things to, lyubimets," Ilinca told him, settling back and drawing her legs up under herself. "One day it might be someone not as forgiving as me." She tipped him a small wink, tucking her hair behind her ears.

She nodded as well. "And I cannot help but think, the sooner the better," she replied. "History and its ghosts are all well and good, but add in the missing people and the mounting sense of 'something is coming'...we have had enough misfortune come to our door these past few months."

It was fitting that Kit enjoyed living life on the edge, given the almost ominous warning in Ilinca's words. The thought of coming across a creature who wouldn't be as easy to joke with caused him to grin, as though the thought of the challenge pleased him. Still, he remained quiet on the subject, instead continuing to discuss the recent happenings surrounding the Cirque.

"Misfortune is an understatement," he said, thinking back over the troubles they had experienced in recent memory. It didn't seem as though they had been given a break from bad news in a long time. "Hopefully we'll be long gone before something else happens. Perhaps it's tempting fate to say it but I don't think it could get worse."

Ilinca just shook her head, smiling slightly. She'd known Kit for a handful of years, she expected nothing less. Still. At least he was a fun one to be around.

She knocked on the wood beneath her out of reflex. "As soon as you say that, it will happen," she sighed. "Such is the way things always seem to go around here. If I have to start draining shifty looking patrons on principle, Security and the Ringmaster will be cross with me. And I do not want that."

As the echo of Ilinca's knock surrounded them and cut through the dark, Kit couldn't help but smirk. "So superstitious," he said, though it was clear from his tone that he was only teasing. "The higher up's ought to thank you for getting rid of the creeps, not scold you for it."
