Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Marisol & Kennet
What: A new arrival
When: October 20th, Mid-afternoon
Where: Off to Kennet's we go.
Rating: More than likely, not very high. The QB might be a little suggestive.

Neither Marisol or the Queen had known the Cirque would arrive in London. How could they? But the Queen felt it later in the day when Marisol was washing dishes in a restaurant to pay her way to her next stop. Time to go, the Queen had insisted in the back of her mind until Marisol couldn't stop ignoring the buzzing. So she left, hands still damp, wrapped in a thinning coat. She followed the directions of the Queen, who had an incredible sense of direction as it was. They were still setting up for the evening's festivities when Marisol arrived at the gate but the Queen insisted they simply walk right in. It would be fine.

That had been about ten minutes ago. Now she was standing outside of a trailer, hands still deeply tucked into her coat to warm them, still damp. Is this a good idea? Marisol asked the Queen for perhaps the millionth time. We already signed a contract, dear, responded the Queen. The thrum inside of her grew for a moment lulling Mari into a state of relaxation while the Queen forced her hand to lift and knock on the door. Too late to turn back now. It was done. The buzzing lessened and Mari shook her head to clear away the sleepiness.

She shoved her hand back into her coat, half-turning away from the door to look out at the people working. She didn't know the word for the job they did as they set things up - even though most of it already looked constructed. Hm.

Management had already informed Kennet of the special guest who would be stopping by. With the flow of humans, gifted and not, that had appeared in Detroit, he would have to say he was surprised by the specific creature knocking at his door- not that he expressed such in any manner. His tall, lean form filled the door as usual.

Dressed in a white buttondown and slacks, the day not yet over, he had not begun getting ready for the show that night. "Come in," he said simply as he stepped away from the door. The visit from the new employees always started the same; but with this one, his voice resonated inside of the girl the words spoken directly to the Queen inside of her.

"Not many come to the Cirque before the show, but I suppose such a call would be hard to ignore for your kind." He stated simply as he poured himself a glass of dark amber liquid that smelled of herbs and the taste in the air, for those sensitive enough to sense it, tasted of fire.

She looked back as the door opened - the Ringmaster was certainly imposing but the Queen wouldn't let Marisol step back like she wanted to. Instead, she simply went up the steps and inside, only glancing back to make sure the door was shut behind them. The Queen didn't exactly want anyone else to know what they were though it would be difficult to hide it after a time. The buzzing was always present.

"Hard to ignore another hive," said the Queen through Mari's mouth, the words somewhat sing-song and drawn out on seemingly random letters which made it sound more like a drone. And say what he might like, the Cirque was a hive. There was a reigning bee and a lot of pretty little drones always buzzing about. Honey. Money. They were the same.

"The child wishes to rest but it is so difficult for us to find a safe place to lay our heads," the Queen lamented with a pout, "Will your hive keep us safe?" She didn't even look at the glass but breathed in deeply to taste it on the air. The bees hummed a bit louder, emanating from somewhere around Mari's chest.

Kennet would hardly argue against the analogy of the Cirque being a hive, but then few hives had two reigning bees. While the Ringmaster gave out orders, rules, and discipline, it was Management's hive. Its personal collection of drones.

"Ms Hernandez is free to rest in the safety of our grounds, though as the contract said we expect something in return. Your hive will be given a job to work here and should any attacks happen on the Cirque by outside forces, we do wish for your hive to help protect ours." While Kennet rarely changed the rules and instructions he gave newcomers to the circus, due to the nature of the creature before him and his proclivity for wording things specifically as he intended them, Kennet felt there were more pressing agreements to be gone over.

Sipping his drink, he placed it on the bar behind him. "Do you wish for something in your own taste?" The Djinn did not share his favoured drink- mostly because it would kill nearly everyone- but had a stash of nearly everything imaginable to offer guests in his trailer.

The Queen nodded slightly - of course, something was expected in return. That was the way of the world and certainly the way of contracts. She understood that better than most, as did Marisol. The poor girl was now under two contracts but that was hardly her fault and entirely the Queen's.

But she smiled, "Our protections will be swift and deadly. I would not recommend any of your drones to ... injest the bodies afterward. It may do them harm." That was a fair enough warning, right? The Queen honestly wasn't sure what would happen if someone tried to eat one of their victims. It had not happened before to her knowledge.

Another smile, almost as if she thought him sweet for offering - perhaps even charming. The Queen answered, "We injest anything offered as our own tastes are for power and few will give theirs freely." Her voice lowered to something a bit more suggestive, "But it makes such good honey."

"I believe we have some that could ingest them perfectly fine. We do not like to leave a mess that might bring attention. I hope you understand. But again, your services in that area will be only if we are under attack as per the way of the hive." While Kennet would not let the likes of the Sirens eat any attacked bodies the Hivemother left behind he felt that creatures such as the Hellhound would be fine. From one demonic presence to another.

A smile never creased the stoic face of the Djinn. He could see her as she really was without the mask of the human, as he did with all of the creatures who hid their form. He could see where her hunger lie easily, and she would not be the first to look at him with suggestion. Naamah gave him very similar looks. But where he had to discipline Naamah and make sure she followed his rules, Kennet had no need to do so with a creature like the Queen. She understood the chain of command.

"You will not get honey from me, but you may have anything that is within any of the bottles behind me. Or, I can find an employee who might be willing to feed you, as long as you do not kill them or keep them from being able to do their work."

"Of course," the Queen agreed, "I simply felt it best to warn you. To not would endanger your people and I believe we've agreed not to do that." They certainly hoped they wouldn't be under attack anytime soon although the drones did get restless. Sometimes, they wanted to leave the hive... But they were drones and their wants and needs were unimportant to the Queen.

"There's no need," the Queen answered with a slight shake of Marisol's head, "It would be best, I think, if we did not empower our honey while here unless needed. Goodness knows what might happen if any got stolen by some more powerful creatures. But all you have to do is ask - we would service you all day." Her eyes twinkled with barely repressed amusement.

"I'm sure he's got better things to do than listening to you flirt," Marisol broke through, her tone rougher with an accent that was somewhere between California and Mexican. She was clearly the 'no-nonsense' between the two of them.

The Queen rolled their eyes, "Of course... Work."

"While these are my employees, I know them quite well and would not trust them to not take advantage of such honey should it be produced." Quite well was an understatement, of course. The Djinn could see the secrets of all who walked onto the grounds, contracted or not. Kennet knew that the witches would want to play with the extras given by the honey the Hivemother could produce, at the very least. Kennet, himself, had no interest in the stuff. What good would it do him while management watched his moves?

"It is fine, Miss Hernandez." He held up his hand in dismissal. The Queen was not the first nor last to come in sensing his power and wanting to taste it. Kennet had, unfortunately, gotten used to it; though he did not flirt back.

"My drones are rarely quickly replaceable. They all have their functions." He explained. "As for Miss Hernandez, I believe it is most suitable to give her an act in the Freakshow. Where you may eat anything you desire, to the limits of our rules, of course. She will go to our costumers and be suited to a show outfit this afternoon, after her rest."

The Queen smiled again, ducking their head for a moment to at least try and veil her amusement. It was good to know that he had them so well pegged. It was a warning and though perhaps she should have, she didn't warn him in turn that if any of them tried to steal it, the hive would defend itself. The drones did as drones would without the Queen to tell them yea or nay.

But the smile vanished into a smaller expression, Marisol's almost owlish eyes looking him up and down at that. So the Queen's attitude was familiar? That was... Unfortunate. Marisol hated the way the Queen behaved around certain people. And she felt a little... Weirded out? At being called 'Miss Hernandez'. No one had ever done it before. For a moment, her physical stance made her look smaller, less noticeable.

"Great, Freakshow. As if I'm not already a freak of nature," Marisol muttered under her breath but the Queen rolled their eyes, replying almost swiftly enough to sound like she'd cut her own self off, "You will take what you are given, child, unless you have a better idea." Marisol rolled her eyes and yet her expression had a hint of satisfaction in it. "Humans can be so petulant, can't they? We will do as you instruct."

The Djinn understood there would be retribution in theft. It needed not be addressed verbally. The rules were set up so that the employees did not have to worry about one feeding from the other. Stealing such a thing, in any manner, would be considered an attack as the honey was apart of the hive and breaking said rules against injuring other employees. Self-defense would not be considered breaking the rules on such occasions, as much as Management would prefer that the employees stay intact and the issue brought to the Djinn instead.

Marisol would find that changing her stance, posture and aura would not change how piercing the Ringmaster's gaze could be. To others, she might have been less noticeable, but he seemed to see even the tiniest details.

He nodded to the Queen's response. A moment later, Kennet stepped toward Marisol. As he took the girl's hand in his warmth emanated from his skin with a growing heat that added onto itself. "You have been given a gift, Miss Hernandez. I am sure you are aware of such. While your mundane and pained life prior might make you use such terms for yourself, be aware that we are the stronger part of nature. The title of the show tent is nothing but a ploy used as cover for human society to fall prey to."

He let her hand drop and walked back to his position. "Your trailer awaits you. It will be easy to fine for your kind." Kennet spoke once more to the Queen, as the trailer had a scent marker the bees would recognize immediately.

Marisol wanted to take a step back but she didn't; she held her ground but she visibly tensed. Her eyes searched his face and flitted between that and his hand with obvious confusion. Why was he being nice? What did he want? Probably just to make his employee be ready to do her job and nothing more. "I'll keep that in mind," she stated softly, keeping her arguments to herself. She was the host - there were no misconceptions there. She was not any stronger part of nature. It was all the bees.

She crossed her arms again once he let her go, worrying her lip between her teeth with her eyebrows furrowed together. His attention was away from her now and that was good. She didn't want his attention but the Queen did and she preened in Marisol's mind. Marisol closed her eyes, jaw tensing for a moment. "As you say, Ringmaster," the Queen cooed, lifting their hand to wiggle their fingers almost coyly at him. Marisol opened her eyes only to roll them in annoyance and force their body towards the door. Rude child.
