WHO: Juliette & Felix
WHAT: Exploring after the move
WHEN: June 11th, 3am
WHERE: The castle halls
WARNINGS: Some hints to slavery and abuse
STATUS: finished

Juliette had enjoyed this week with the circus. Honestly, she hadn't expected to. Her previous experiences with such things had soured her so much that she had fully believed that she was going to be treated the same even though she had, of course, volunteered for the job. But she hadn't. And there had been relief sinking deep into her old bones. With her last show done before the move, she had found someone to feed off who had been... disappointing, to say the least, but easy.

After a time, she had settled in her trailer and had worked a brush through her long hair, only to rebraid it. All while waiting for the move to occur. She was not about to sleep anytime soon so she waited. Eventually, she had dozed on her bed, waking a few hours after midnight - a longer night. They had moved backward. She could feel it. But her trailer seemed a little different, a little more like an apartment which she was used to. Amused by the development, she opened the door and eyebrows went up at the sight of stone halls and no actual trailers.

The corner of her mouth quirked up and she started down the halls, barefoot and trying not to laugh. A vampire in an old castle - what was not to be amused by? It was such a stereotype. She'd finally found a view point of the courtyard and saw the Ferris wheel stretching to the sky. "Oh, très amusant."

Felix was never ready when the move came. It wasn't that he didn't have everything together, it was just that vanishing from one place and mysteriously showing up in another always made him a little wobbly, his balance off for the first few minutes of arrival.

This time the move had changed his trailer. Now it seemed like a room, or an apartment, more or less. This development had him curious and the need to go and investigate the Cirque's new home.

He opened his door and instead of finding ground and seeing other trailers, he saw a stone floor and wall. Was he in a castle? The thought amused him and he started to roam the halls, searching for a place to get a better view. The sound of a woman's voice had him following until he came to where she stood staring out across a courtyard.

"Stunning," he said out loud. "Where are we, do you know?"

Juliette looked back over her shoulder at the sound of a man's voice. They were alone so she felt comfortable enough to let herself flirt, "I know I am but look at this view." She grinned cheekily, gesturing him closer and returning to looking out across the courtyard. She wasn't entirely certain how they fit the Ferris wheel out there. Probably something to do with their magics.

"Mm, non, but it smells ancient and dead. That tells me European - it always smells old and dead there." The statement was matter-of-fact, lacking in the hint of poetry that maybe the words should have contained. "Hopefully, it is safe. I would be très déçu if more Templars arrived." Since she was still fairly new to the cirque and there were many she had yet to meet, she offered him her hand in the old style like a princess expecting a bow and a kiss, "Juliette D'amboise. I dance in the burlesque."

Felix chuckled at the woman's flirting and gave a slight nod of acknowledgement. She was stunning, indeed, and if he were honest he thought she was much more than the view. "The view is not bad either," he flirted back and came to stand beside her as he peered out.

"It does smell old," he agreed. They had traveled back in time, possibly, which made things even more interesting to him. When she held out her hand and gave his name, he looked at the hand a moment and then took it gently, his eyes reaching hers as he gave a small bow and kissed the top of her hand.

He already knew before nearing her that she was a vampire. Her scent gave her dead away on that, but what he hadn't known was that they had a new vampire to the cirque that was a dancer. "Felix Keene," he said when he straightened. "I'm the Black Pirate on the midway," he said. "Though I'm considering it's time for a change."

Good man. He had taken the opportunity presented to him and her smile broadened. They could be good looking together, and look together at their new temporary abode. "What spectres await us here, walking the halls to rattle their chains in the night?" she murmured more to herself than him, "Though I hear no rattling now. Perhaps we have startled them into silence, taking over their home in such a manner."

He was winning points all around and that reflected in the way she looked him over, met his eyes. Yes, he was definitely a keeper. "Felix Keene," she repeated with a laugh, "Your grand-sire has told me I should toy with you. Byron and I have known each other for some time." Likely, she wasn't supposed to tell him that but she didn't care. Juliette would do as she pleased.

She lifted her hand to his cheek, wanting to trace the line of his jaw with her fingertips, "Awfully handsome for a pirate, non? Though I suppose les clients would not be interested in the real thing. What change are you thinking?" It was an easy way to find out what other sorts of talents and interests he had without going into such piddling small talk.

"I am sure we've startled that which is meant to startle us by our arrival," Felix chuckled. "I'm positive they will be back to their games soon, though we do have our own games to fight back with do we not?" He smiled. Ghosts could scare, but they might find it more difficult with the group that had decided to make this their temporary home.

He sighed to hear that she knew Byron, a frown touching his lips just slightly. Did the 'toying' ever end? He was so frustrated with everything that had happened recently that he had had thought of just leaving and going on his own for awhile. "I don't know if it surprises me that you know him or not," he said, looking over at her letting his eyes drink her in. "So...do you plan to toy with me?"

When her hand touched his jaw, he flinched but did not knock her hand away. Even after all this time he had lived, he still wasn't accustomed with anyone touching him first. "The makeup I wear and all makes for a not so attractive pirate," he said. "But attractive enough." He shrugged about what changes he was thinking. "I don't know," he answered. "Something more exciting than sitting and barely moving. "Maybe I just need to make being a pirate more interesting," he then said.

"Indeed we do," she agreed easily, a hint of darkness seeping into her smile, "And I expect, if they should get rowdy, that our games are far more final than theirs are." Nothing a good exorcism couldn't cure. They could easily send all those ghostly bastards back to the Hell they belonged in should they act out.

But his frown reflected in her expression and she suddenly wondered what games Byron had been playing with his poor grand-childe. "Humans are toys. Not our kind. When it comes to the better species, I prefer a mutual enjoyment," Juliette hoped that provided him some comfort. Byron was not her boss and it had been a request - one that she was choosing to ignore for now.

She clicked her tongue slightly, frowning at his flinch. What had happened to this poor, beautiful creature? But she could at least guess at the bigger picture. It was something she had done for a long time - that flinching. Her heart broke for him. However, she did not drop her hand, simply keeping her touch in the one spot and sweetly stroking his skin. "There is plenty to do in a circus. What other skills do you have? Juggling? Acrobatics?"

Felix wasn't sure he even trusted her words. Human's were, indeed, toys, but that didn't mean she wouldn't mess with him. His whole life he had been 'toyed' with, and he was tired of it. He wanted things that other people had, wanted a life that was different than the one he'd been living, but he knew he wasn't the type of person that would get it. People would toy with him, apparently he was easy to toy with. "You'll forgive me if I am hesitant to believe that you won't toy with me," he said. "My grand-sire and sire, that's all they've ever done," he looked away.

He let her continue touching him, his arm went out and curled around her waist and brought her closer. "I have skills that aren't acceptable for a circus," he explained. "Hunting. Killing. Sex," he said bluntly. "And I can play with the shadows, pull darkness around me, or others," he said and then showed her by pulling at shadows and wrapping them around the two of them; if anyone were to look in their direction, they would not be seen.

Her expression grew pained, sad, that heartbreak for him coming to the surface quite easily as she allowed it. "I understand. In another life," she paused for a moment as if the words were difficult, "I was a slave. So I understand. True trust is hard to earn when no one has been trustworthy for such a long time." The details, she would keep close to her chest but she could offer him that much knowledge. She would be the emotions while he kept his distance.

Juliette allowed herself to be pulled in close, listening to his words and shivering slightly - those were some of her favorite activities after all. And suddenly they were in a cocoon of darkness. Her arms casually looped around his shoulders in their hidden place in the night. "Hunting and killing... makes you security, no?" Suddenly, a thought formed making an earnest suggestion, "Though, with your talent for shadows, you could make quite the shadow puppet show."

"I don't need or want your pity," Felix said quickly, seeing her expression change. Then he understood why her expression changed when she told him how she understood. "I..." he started to say and then shook his head. "The trust is definitely difficult," he then finally said. It was strange to feel a kinship with her, knowing that she could understand him, to connect with him.

"Security? Something like that," he gave a small chuckle. "Shadow puppets? I mean...I don't know how exciting that would get, but I could do it," he gave a one shoulder shrug, his other hand going out to rest on her hip. The shadows swirled around them, keeping the two of them in a slight vortex. He felt safer in the shadows, calmer. The shadows had kept him alive for a majority of his life.

He was quick to react but she understood - he was a man and he had his pride. All men did. They did not want to seem weak, especially in front of a woman if they fancied such creatures. Perhaps she was stereotyping but that was the way she had been raised. "Then I make it my vow not to make you a toy, no matter what Byron thinks should happen. He is not my sire, nor my master." And if Byron ever decided differently, she would gut him - contract or no contract.

She shrugged a shoulder slightly - security would let him hunt, kill if someone got too rowdy. Or simply kill just because it was that time of night. Why not? "Depends on the story you tell," she noted mildly as she stepped closer to him so she could lower her voice to just be whispers between them. Intimacy in the shadows. "I imagine stories of knights fighting dragons would have very lively shadow puppets." Though they would perhaps be offensive to any dragons traveling with them. Oh well.

Felix held Juliette's eyes as she spoke and tried to spot if this was the truth from her or if this was the way she'd toy with him; gain his trust, then mess with his head. It would be a great tactic, which meant he needed to watch himself with her...with everyone.

He did like how she moved closer and his fingers flexed on her hips. "Knights and dragons?" He said, wondering how that would go. "It would be something great here. "I have never controlled the shadows to do something like that," he mused. "I'd have to practice, to see how deep my power actually goes; I've only ever used it to cloak myself," he explained. "But it is a good idea, and I'll keep it in mind. Do you like dancing?" He asked of what she did for the cirque.

She held his gaze, letting him look and try to find the truth. She wasn't lying, had no reason to do so. Juliette did not take orders from Byron, simple as that. Already, she felt a little more connected to Felix more than his grand-sire. Poor thing needed a tender hand - at least some of the time. Maybe not all of it.

"Especially in an old castle, hm?" she smiled at him, though such a show likely couldn't be put together before they left wherever they were. "You should always practice, even without a show in mind. I am constantly using my talents with glass." Juliette bit her lip for a moment, then nodded though a stormy expression began to form, "I do - now. In the old days, it was much... Worse." She didn't elaborate but a shiver ran through her at the memories. "Circuses were not kind places, il était une fois."

"Your talent with glass? What do you mean?" Felix asked. She was a dancer, he didn't know what glass had to do with anything. Though, it did dawn on him that, like him, she didn't use her ability for what she did at the circus.

"I'm sorry," he said without thinking. He wasn't one to ever apologize for anything, and right now he was apologizing, empathizing (again something he never did) about her past. He got it, because his past had been traumatic as well. Her shiver had him wrapping his arms around her and pulling her closer. "It's not so bad in this one," he promised her. "Though, I admit, I'm not exactly a kind being."

She smiled faintly, "Like you move shadows, I move glass." But she didn't show off. She had glass beads all over her - in her hair, on her clothes. They were hidden weapons just waiting for the right moment to strike. She could have used her talent for the cirque but she didn't. It was a waste of energy and feedings to use it frivolously.

The surprise at his sudden apology was clear on her face but she appreciated it, and the way he held her close. It had been such a long time since someone had just held her. "Few are, I think," she murmured, "I lost my kindness a very long time ago." She had lost a lot. Juliette closed her eyes, resting against him comfortably. "But I am honored to have earned a gentle touch from you, Monsieur Keene. I shall treasure it and keep it secret."
