Letha & OPEN
Letha had intended on taking a bite to eat to Meredith and Bitsy, both stuck in the Ticket Booth with a line that never seemed to end. Since they had been in Rome, it had been like this; they ended up turning guests away at the end of the night without ever setting foot inside the circus. Sorry, so sorry, they would just have to arrive earlier the next evening.
It wasn't so bad for the hedgewitch, who had mastered the art of taking appropriate breaks when she lived with the Pack – sometimes you just had to glare at a wolf and say no. Meredith wasn't the no-saying type, though, and she was sure that the little Romani girl would appreciate a sandwich and a soda.
She was nearly there when the first shots rang out, a sound that brought Letha instinctively to her knees, the packaged food dropping thoughtlessly into the dirt. She could hear the ticket seller screaming on the other side of the Tunnel, and a smaller, more shrill voice blended with hers. But there was chaos all around her by that time, including the sight of three gunmen fighting their way out of the Tunnel itself.
Scrambling away, Letha tried to make herself as small a target as possible, adding movement as well. If the gunmen were breaking into the Midway, she needed to be somewhere else. She needed to find a place to hide. And most importantly, she needed to locate Marco so she could get rid of the sensation of having her heart all the way in the back of her throat.
