Who: Diana Croft and James Deckard What: accidental run in When: May 23rd, evening Where: The Mirrored Labyrinth
“Okay Achak,” Diana grumbled, “Enough games. I really need to get to work.” Of course, there was no answer, not even a sensation as she normally got from her guardian.
“Really? That’s how it’s gonna be?” She growled as she continued to march in the direction she had last seen him… right toward the Mirrored Labyrinth.
Her stomach churned at the mere sight of the place. Diana had never been a fan of such places. Sure, she could go for the ‘safe scares’ in movies, but things like this. They always reminded her of something far more sinister. Maybe it was a little foresight on her part, knowing what was in there…
She’d heard of Wendigos before. Granted, much of it was second hand mumbo jumbo from horror movies and games. A few of her mentors had mentioned them. She even had been gifted a book on supernaturals, just to give her an idea of what she might encounter out in the world. That book, along with her mentor, had made them sound like the worst sort of the devil.
Still, she had met lots of beings others would call monsters here. Arguably, she could be considered one as well. It couldn’t be that bad in there. After all, people walked out every night. While Diana was aware that people went ‘missing’ in the Cirque all the time—the denizens of the cirque had to eat too, as the saying went—the majority of people went home, completely unharmed, unaware of the magic they were flittering amongst.
Still the warning she had received about the Mirrored Labyrinth was clear. Avoid it. End of discussion.
“But of course, you think we should just head on in.” And sure enough, waiting for her at the entrance was Achak. His large black head turned over his shoulder to glance at her, before turning forward gain. He stood, walking into the labyrinth, seemingly not bothered by what might lie inside.
“I swear if I get eaten…”
Diana stepped inside, feeling her stomach churn almost immediately past the threshold. Her powers flared, making the wind pick up. If she wasn’t so anxious, she would have rolled her eyes at the cliché nature of it all. Forcibly, robotically, she strode forward into the maze, trying to follow Achak as she went.
“Miss me?”
Diana lashed out, readying a fire spell as she caught a glimpse of Seth standing in one of the mirrors. He faded away, but his laughter didn’t. Not waiting to see if this was an illusion or the real thing, Diana bolted off deeper into the labyrinth.
