It had been years since Rose had had occasion to dress beyond the business casual she typically wore, and were this particular masquerade not specifically held to celebrate medical professionals, she doubted she would have gone to any of the festivities Vienna offered. It was strange but a little exciting to be doing such mundane things as shopping for a dress and jewelry, frilly things she didn't usually bother with. The gown she chose was a Neoclassical throwback, made of a fog-colored silk that draped softly over her curves and gathered to a train in the back. When it was time to dress for the ball, she paired the dress with dark silver heels and simple jewelry - a pair of diamond stud earrings and a bracelet made of nearly hair-fine silver filament, looped several times around her right wrist. She kept her makeup simple, her hair pulled back in a loose chignon. The last piece was her mask, an exquisitely tooled leather resembling a white owl. Pulling on a long black dress coat, she notified security of her intended whereabouts and planned time of return before leaving for the masquerade.
She was not wholly comfortable on her own in the mundane world, and suspected she wouldn't be for quite a while, if ever, but she was at least among her people at the ball. She kept up with several medical journals, and had always been fascinated with what developments humans had been able to make in the field with technology alone. It helped remind her why she'd chosen to go into medicine in the first place - she hadn't chosen it solely because of her healing ability, though the call to use it had always been strong.
She'd danced with a few who'd asked but politely refused many more, choosing instead to drift between groups and talk medicine for most of the evening. It had been a surprisingly pleasant evening so far despite the unexpected rowdiness of the attendees, aided by the anonymity the mask gave her. Excusing herself from the group she'd been speaking with, she wound her way gracefully between the crush of attendees in search of refreshment.
