It was strange, being back in a place that held so many memories of times long past. It wasn't the first city that Kit had a history with and it was unlikely to be the last, though it had only taken a few short hours into this current visit to provide him with a new set of things to look back on in the future; the most notable being his conversations with Mona over the previous two days and the anticipation of what would come next. After being invited to attend one of the events by Mona, who had pipped him to the post in asking him what he had been intending to ask her, Kit had sorted everything that he could think of in relation to it. He had visited a tailor that he knew from times past to sort out a suit for the season, had purchased tickets to each event once realising he and Mona hadn't yet agreed on which evening to go out, and organised transportation from the Cirque grounds to whatever location they would eventually end up at. By the time Mona had spoken to him again, Kit was prepared.
At least, he had thought so.
It was no secret that the vampire had developed a certain degree of feeling for the youngest Kemp girl over the previous few weeks. He had tried not to make such a thing obvious, to varying degrees of success, yet he was unable to compose himself properly when faced with the question of whether or not their outing would be a date. As he had said to Mona, he would have liked for their appearance at the ball to be one, yet he had also meant what he had said about respecting her wishes. Despite being a little disappointed, Kit wasn't disheartened. They would have a great evening, regardless of the status of their relationship, and he was determined to show Mona a good time and take her mind off of the whirlwind that had become her life since she had joined the Cirque.
Having made his excuses and sorted out the scheduling of his shows to allow him a night off, Kit took his time getting ready. He suspected that the society circles hadn't altered much in the century he had been away from Vienna, and so he knew that everything about his appearance had to be perfect. His shirt was crisp, his pants had been pressed, his shoes were shined, and his bow tie sat straight as he focused intently on his reflection. It was only once he noticed the time rapidly approaching eight o'clock that he slipped on his jacket and fixed his hair, giving himself a last once-over before leaving to make his way to Mona's trailer. Stopping shy of the door, the vampire took a breath that he didn't need in order to center himself (and to possibly force down the small ball of anxiety he would never admit to feeling) as he ran his palms down the front of his suit one last time to make sure everything was in order before he knocked the door and waited.
