"I have seen prayers answered by those he can see," Zane tried to retort but fell quiet once more. Jaq may have had centuries on him, but how could a man so bent on the darkness ever be able to see the graced gifts of God. Nothing good ever came from Jaq's presence but Zane had found miracles in his wandering and his life. He witnessed far more from his clouded portion of earth, kilometres away from any one miracle.
Jaq tore at his faith, but it was one thing Zane could never give up. Not even in the most violent and tormented portions of his blurred history with his sire and Eilis.
A sorrow lay heavy on Zane's expression. The success of staying away and hidden from his sire had been met with a known disaster. Zane had understood the consequences and still tried to escape the duo that had saved him and killed him over and over. For all he taught Nora, spoke on the wickedness of certain vampires, he had never spoke of his own sire and the people like her that were left in the path.
Tensing his jaw, Zane's green eyes lifted to Jaq unable to look away. Refusing to repeat the rule back at him, Zane took the pain being inflicted on him. The boy had always been good with enduring. "I cannot," Zane stated softly, finally. "I- I will not kill when I feed." He had Nora to think of and he did not want Jaq even knowing she existed, though he would find they had a trailer together and then what would he do?
"I watch over another," he added quickly. "And she does not have much control in her feedings yet."
