WHO Emma & Vaughn WHEN 2014 WHERE Roatan WHAT just the Best Holiday Ever™ WARNINGS Language
It was day three of their delightful tropical getaway full of sun and sand and local delicacies.
It was day three of the trip from hell.
Arriving in Roatan had seemed fine enough. Yes, it had been a shock to see what the island was like outside of the resorts as they were driven in the from the airport but it seemed like the beaches were still beautiful from what she could see through the trees and so she could make the most of it. (She felt Vaughn's discomfort at the shanty shacks they passed and she gave his hand a squeeze.)
Things had really started to collapse when they reached the resort.
The unfinished resort.
Sorry, but the room you asked for isn't available but we have another and it only has a single bed.
Sorry, but the pool won't be completed until next year.
Sorry, the restaurants are also not finished but there are food carts outside the resort and we can give you this discount voucher to eat at the resort on the other side of the island.
Sorry, there are no vehicles that go between the two resorts but you can borrow a bike.
Apologies, ma'am, but the air conditioning is currently not working.
Oh, I'm sorry, we didn't realise the french doors out to your balcony had been painted shut.
On the first night a dog - either wild or belonging to someone living nearby - howled almost all night.
On the second night an actual living iguana fell through the ceiling and there was no one awake to come get rid of it. Vaughn had locked it in the bathroom until morning.
And now, day three, and Emma was exhausted and frustrated and wanted to cry.
