Character(s): Martha Jones, Jennifer Keller & open
Day: day 4
Time of Day: morning
Location: medical area
Rating: PG probably
Status: incomplete

After a nice breakfast in the restaurant Martha went to the infirmary. It wasn't that she had any patients right now, but something could always happen. And if she'd have nothing else to do she would do some more research about this final war and what they had to expect.

When she walked into the first room with her desk she was a bit surprised. The room had changed. There was another desk at the other side of the room now. Did this mean another doctor had arrived? That certainly would be good. If that war really started she'd surely need all the help she could get. Wars always meant injured people.

Martha then noticed a door next to the new desk. She could swear there hadn't been one before. She walked towards it curiously when she suddenely heard someone arriving.

Jennifer wasn't sure about John going off by himself for the day. Back on Atlantis, he always had his team with him but not here. So when he told her he was going off, and made it known he didn't want her to go in order to keep her safe, Jennifer decided to go to the island's infirmary and see what sort of things they had there. One never knew when her services would be needed.

After packing up the medical kit she found in her room, Jennifer put on her Atlantis uniform - making sure to take off the Atlantis patch, of course - grabbed her handgun, and started for the infirmary. She quickly walked, not feeling comfortable with being out in the open. Yes, there was a fence separating the two sides of town but the Wraith had already gotten through, and that made her nervous.

When Jennifer finally got to the infirmary she walked in, noticing another woman there. Clearing her throat, Jennifer held out her hand. "Hi, I'm Doctor Jennifer Keller," she said in greeting.

Martha turned around as a woman entered the room. She then smiled and walked over to her to shake her hand.

"Hi. I'm Doctor Martha Jones", she introduced herself.

"I guess that's your desk then", she said and pointed at it. "Hasn't been there yesterday." She really wished she knew if someone had wandered in during the night and put it there or if it magically appeared. Then she glanced at the new door next to the desk and frowned. That couldn't have been build over night. Maybe the magical appearing was what happened after all.

"And neither has that door. I guess this place changes with new arrivals." Or was it simpler than that, not magical at all? "Or maybe a perception filter?", she wondered more to herself. Like the one Torchwood had on the elevator or the one the doctor made for them. The one she had been wearing for a whole year so people wouldn't notice her and catch her during the year that technically never was.
She might just haven't wanted to notice the desk and door before.

"It's nice to meet you, Doctor Jones. You can call me Jennifer if you like," Jennifer said as she shook Martha's hand.

Turning a bit, she looked over at the desk and raised her eyebrows. "It looks just like my desk back at Atlantis. I guess they really do want us here," she said. Jennifer was still amazed at all of this. When she first went to her room, the closet had her Atlantis uniforms in it, along with the BDUs all of them wore on off-world missions. There was also a medical kit, a tablet, and a few of the books she referenced from time to time.

When Martha spoke again, Jennifer pulled herself back to the present and looked over at the door. "Really?" she asked with a curious look. She found herself moving toward it, while wondering if it was a good idea to even open it. The door could be some strange portal to the bad side of town, and that was the last thing Jennifer needed. However, she was curious by nature and decided to go ahead and open it. And when she did, she froze in place, her mouth falling open.

The room on the other side of the door looked just like Atlantis' infirmary. In one corner, there was a scanner, while in the opposite corner sat a small lab for her to do research. There were a few laptops here and there, along with beds and a few exam tables. Turning around, Jennifer gave Martha a look.

"And this looks like the infirmary back on Atlantis. This is a little weird."

Martha smiled and nodded. "Martha", she said. It was always nicer to work together if you weren't that formal.

"Yes, looks that way. It's a bit weird, isn't it?" Martha was used to weird things, but something like this didn't even happen in the TARDIS. She then however shrugged. She had learned to adapt quickly.

When Jennifer walked towards the door Martha followed her and curiously peered into the room once the door was open. It was a medical room with beds, a place for research and things like that. It looked different than the room Martha used, but it seemed to be just as nicely equipped.

Martha turned to face Jennifer when she spoke. "Atlantis?", she asked, staring at her now. Everyone knew the old myth of Atlantis. Did Jennifer come from a place named after it or was there a possibility that Atlantis was real? Martha knew by now that almost every place could be real. But Atlantis was from the past. It wouldn't have modern technology, especially nothing this modern, she thought as her eyes fell on the equipment in the room.

"Very weird," Jennifer commented. She was getting used to it, though. Well, kind of. She still wasn't sure about this battle they were supposed to fight. But she guessed they would have to see what happened.

When Martha asked about Atlantis, Jennifer froze. She hadn't realized she had said the city's name. Looking at the other doctor, Jennifer wondered if it was all right to even say anything about the Stargate program and Atlantis. But she had said it and couldn't think of any other way out of it. Besides, there was a good chance Martha wouldn't even believe.

"Atlantis...as in the lost city of Atlantis," Jennifer said. She took a deep breath, while trying to think of the best way to explain it. "I work for an organization called the Stargate Program. We use these devices called Stargates to travel from planet to planet, and galaxy to galaxy. They create wormholes from place to place. If you know the Gate address to where you want to go, you dial it in and it takes you there." She looked at Martha, wondering if she believed anything she said. "Over five years ago, Atlantis' Gate address was discovered. The city has been in the Pegasus galaxy this entire time. Both military personnel and scientists live and work there. I've been the city's Chief Medical Officer for over a year now."

Jennifer shrugged a little. "Unbelievable, I know, but it's the truth."

Martha watched Jennifer, waiting for an answer. She seemed a little hesitant at first, but then spoke. What she said sounded a little strange, but what wasn't strange in her live?

"Wow. That sounds... kind of cool", she said. "So, you're from earth and travel to other planets, even another galaxy?", she asked a little excited. She rarely met anyone who had seen other planets as well.

"What century are you from?", she then wanted to know. Jennifer probably was from the future. In her own time humans usually didn't even believe in aliens, no matter how many invasions they had to fight off.

Jennifer was glad Martha didn't think she was crazy or stupid. When she asked her question, Jennifer nodded. "Yeah. I was born on Earth but work in the Pegasus galaxy," she said. "We travel from place to place using the Stargates. I'm not really sure about the science behind it. Rodney, someone I work with, knows but not me."

She frowned a little as she started to realize she actually missed Rodney, Teyla and Ronon. Yes, she had John there and she loved having him there but they were a team. The rest of them needed to be there, too.

Jennifer's thoughts were pulled back to the present as Martha asked her question. "The 21st century. It's 2008 here I come from," she said, her brow furrowing. "Why do you ask? Are you from the future or something?"

Martha listened to what Jennifer told her. It sounded really interesting.

She then was a little surprised when Jennifer said she was from 2008. Humans didn't really travel to other planets or galaxies in the 21st century. Maybe she was from another reality. Mickey and Rose had been living in one before they came back. Things were different there.

"No, I'm not from the future", she then said. "But I've been to the future... and the past", she said with a grin. Just thinking about everything she had seen made her smile.

"I've traveled through time and space with an alien."

Jennifer found herself nodding when Martha said she wasn't from the future. She still found it a little strange the other woman had asked her what century she was from. Then it dawned on her - the Stargate program was a secret very few people knew about. She pressed her lips together, wondering if she would get in trouble for telling a complete stranger about it.

However, when Martha said she had traveled through time with an alien, Jennifer's eyebrows rose. "Really? What sort of alien?" she asked. "The only real aliens I know of are the Wraith and...well, they're pretty nasty and mean." Just thinking of them made her shudder.

Jennifer shifted a little and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. "So, um, what I just told you about the Stargate...it's supposed to be a secret and only certain people know about it. Do...do you think you can keep it a secret? I know we're on some stranded island but I really don't want to lose my job if and when we get to go home," she said with a hopeful look.

Martha watched Jennifer, waiting to see how she would react. She then grinned. Jennifer didn't think she was crazy, which was definitely a good thing.

"He's a timelord. The last of them actually", she said as her thoughts wandered to the doctor. "He's here, too." She smiled, happy that he was. She just felt safer when he was around.

"Wraith? Never heard of them", Martha then said. "Where are they from? And what kind of nasty things do they do?", she asked curiously. "I've seen lots of aliens. Some of them are nice, some evil, like the Daleks", she said, remembering how they abducted earth and killed hundreds, maybe even thousands of humans when invading 2 days before she came here. They still hadn't known the exact number of victims, but at least the Daleks hadn't succeeded in their plan to destroy the entire universe.

Martha smiled when Jennifer asked her to keep this all secret. "Don't worry. I won't say a word. Besides, I don't think we're from the same reality. I'm pretty sure I knew if we had a Stargate. I have one of the highest clearances on the planet. Makes me good at keeping stuff to myself, too."

When Martha asked about the Wraith, Jennifer shuddered a bit. They were truly nasty creatures. "They're from the Pegasus galaxy. They feed on humans with their hands," she said as she held up her hand in demonstration. "The Wraith puncture your chest with their fingers and suck the life out of you. They can also give the life back to you. Guess they do that to torture people."

She then listened to Martha and nodded. "There are a few humanoid aliens in Pegasus that are pretty nice, and some are even our allies," she explained. She then smiled. "Glad to hear your friend is here. It's always nice when you have a familiar face around."

It made sense they were from different realities. She wasn't from the same reality as John so she was sure it was the same with others on the island. "Thanks," Jennifer said. "I've only been with the expedition for a year and wouldn't want to be the one who spills the secrets." She softly laughed and looked around. "Is there anywhere here I can get a cup of coffee?"

Martha stared at Jennifer as she talked about the Wraith. "They suck the life out of people?", she asked, horror showing on her face. She was definitely glad that she never met those aliens.

She then smiled, glad that Jennifer and her people hadn't only met evil aliens.

"It definitely is. There are more people here that I know. But two of them don't know me", she said with a sigh. Well, she hardly knew Rose herself, so it wasn't that bad that she didn't remember her. But that Jack didn't know who she was still bugged her.

"They are from different times", she explained. "Hadn't met me yet when they came here."

"You're welcome", Martha answered. Then she gestured to the door and walked out. There was a small kitchen nearby.

"I don't know if there is coffee, but so far this place always had anything I wanted to drink or eat", she said and then went to make herself some tea.

Jennifer found herself frowning as Martha said two of her friends didn't know her. She couldn't imagine what that would be like. She found herself lucky John remembered her. "I'm sorry they don't remember you," she said.

She looked toward the kitchen and smiled. Following Martha in, Jennifer looked around and opened up a few cabinets. She grinned when she found some instant coffee. After grabbing a mug, she filled it with water and put it in the microwave to heat up. "Oh, donuts!" she said when she saw a pink box sitting on the counter. "This place really does have everything."

Once her coffee was finished, Jennifer grabbed a glaze donut and started out to the main room again. When she stepped out into it, she froze in place when she saw another desk sitting there. "Um, Martha? That wasn't there before, was it?" she asked.

Martha glanced at Jennifer and nodded. "Thanks", she said silently. "It's still good that they are here, though." She definitely felt better knowing that Jack was around. And Rose remembered the doctor, which was the important thing.

Martha grinned when Jennifer found donuts. "Yes, it does. Well, everything but a way home." She sighed. This place seemed nice enough most of the time, but she'd still prefer to go home. What was happening at home right now? What if earth was under attack again? The doctor was here now and so were Jack, Rose and her. Who would safe the planet? Well, there were other versions of the doctor, right? And the rest of Torchwood and UNIT were still there, too. Hopefully everything would be fine until they found a way home.

Martha followed Jennifer back to the main room, a cup of tea in hand. She then stared at the third desk.

"Uhm, no, I don't think so", she said. How did that desk get there so quickly? Was it maybe a perception filter after all and they just hadn't wanted to see it before? She frowned. She would have to talk to the doctor about it.

"I guess another doctor will arrive soon", she then said. Of course it would be good to have more doctors here, but Martha also wondered if this meant that more doctors would be needed very soon. Would people get injured or sick soon? Would the war start already?

Jennifer was amazed that another desk just suddenly appeared. It really did seem like the island knew everything they needed. Looking over at Martha, Jennifer nodded her head in agreement. "It would seem so. Wonder who it is, though," she said as she turned to eye the desk again. She was really curious as to who the desk belonged to.

Stepping forward, Jennifer went over to the desk and sat her coffee mug on top of it. She looked back at Martha and shrugged. "My parents always did say I was too curious for my own good," she said before she sat down in the desk's chair. She opened the top door and peered in. Inside was a few fishing lures and a picture of a group of people.

Jennifer picked up the lures and looked at them for a moment. She looked over at Martha and raised her eyebrows. "I know of a doctor who fishes but I'm not sure if it's him, considering he's a clone in my time," she said, shaking her head. "It's probably not Carson. I'm sure a lot of doctors fish."

She put the lures away and closed the door before standing. She picked up her coffee mug, and took a small drink. "Have you seen many injuries yet?" she asked.

((OOC - Carson's mun told me what would be in the drawer))

"Me, too", Martha said and followed Jennifer to the desk. She had always been curious. It probably was why the doctor had liked having her as a companion. She remembered well the curiosity and the rush she felt before stepping out of the TARDIS into the unknown.

When Jennifer opened the door Martha peered in as well. She didn't know anyone on the picture. Too bad. But were there actually any doctors she wished to see here? Yes, there was one: Owen. He was dead, but people came from different times. Jack came from a point in time where Owen was still alive. So, Owen could show up. She'd really love to see him again, preferably alive.

Jennifers words then pulled Martha out of her thoughts. "A clone?", she asked. "I guess clones are more common than I guessed", she added. She had been kind of cloned once and the doctor had a clone now, too.

"Maybe it's your friend. I'm sure we'll find out soon", she said and gave Jennifer a smile.

"More than I'd like to", Martha answered. She had seen some injuries while working at the hospital, some while traveling with the doctor, some while working with UNIT and also some while with Torchwood, but the most she had seen during the year that never was. So many people died. The whole world had been a mess. She knew that it never happened after time reversed itself, but she still couldn't get the pictures out of her head. She saw it happen, no matter if almost noone else remembered.

"But back home I don't really work in a hospital anymore. I worked for UNIT and had just started working for Torchwood before I got here. Both deal with anything alien in my reality." She was rarely able to talk to people she didn't know about what she did. It felt nice to be able to speak about it.

Jennifer nodded. "There's this Wraith hybrid named Michael. He held Carson hostage and took his DNA, then made a clone. The real Carson died several months later in an explosion, and about a month ago we found his clone," she explained. "With Michael around, clones and creepy hybrids are very common." She then shook her head. "Maybe it is. It would be nice to have a few more people from Atlantis here."

Standing from the desk, Jennifer picked up her mug of coffee and listened to Martha speak. "Torchwood kind of sounds like our Stargate Command. The entire Stargate program is ran by an organization called the IOA." She made a face at that before continuing. "It's head is this idiot named Woosley. He's always trying to put restrictions on how things are ran on Atlantis. But the SGC teams are the ones who take care of the aliens in my reality. Well, at least in the Milky Way."

She shrugged a little and went over to her desk. "I see a lot of different injuries on Atlantis. Most of them are just patching up the military guys after they've gotten hurt on off-world missions." It was all simple, but there were still times when someone would get severely hurt. Like Elizabeth Weir had, and Jennifer could do nothing to save her.

"So this UNIT and Torchwood...are they like the military?" she asked.

Martha listened to Jennifers story. It surely was hard to lose someone and then meet a clone of that person. But it could also be nice. She wouldn't mind having a clone of Owen or Tosh for example. Well, as long as it was a good clone and not an evil one.

"Yes, they sound similar. Torchwood kind of deals with aliens in Britain and UNIT with aliens in the US, well, mainly."

Martha took a sip of her tea, but then put it down on her desk. It was still very hot.

"I guess we can be glad that noone tries to tell us how Torchwood has to be run. We're outside the government and beyond the police, which really is a good thing."

"UNIT is crawling with military, but they also have scientists, technicians and doctors for example. Torchwood is smaller. Or at least Torchwood 3, where I work now is small. There are just 5 of us."
