Time of Day: Evening (around 7pm or so)
Location: Some street in the good part of town
Rating: Most likely PG
Status: Incomplete

Sarah Walker had been in a lot of sticky situations. She'd been kidnapped, beat up, shot at, and had once worked undercover as a pig farmer. But none of that compared to this. One moment she was sitting on her couch, cleaning her gun, and the next she was standing on a dimly lit street. Looking around, Sarah wondered if maybe she had been drugged, or if this was some training exercise the CIA decided to throw her in. She knew she had upset Graham when she insisted they not take Chuck. Was this payback?

With a weary sigh, she started to move down the street. As she did, she patted herself, glad to feel she still had her gun on her. It made her feel better knowing she had a way to defend herself in case this wasn't a training exercise.

Sarah continued down the street until she came to what looked like the town's business district. Several businesses were still open, but she wasn't sure if she should go inside any of them. It could trap, after all. So instead of going inside, she sat down on a bench, and waited for someone to come by.

Rachel walked out of the restaurant. She had had dinner, alone. She wasn't sure where Tobias had disappeared to. She just couldn't find him. Maybe he didn't really believe that it was her. He seemed to think she was dead. She had been a little worried about him, but if something happened to him she would have heard and his room would be free again. She had checked. The book in the reception still said it was his room. Not being able to find him she then went to eat by herself. It sucked. She hated being alone. But Tobias probably didn't want to be found. He might be out in the woods. He's come back if he wanted to spend time with her. He always did.

Sighing she walked back towards the living quarters when she noticed a young woman sitting on a bench by herself. She probably was about 10 years older than her. Rachel hadn't seen her in town before. She might be new.

"Hi", she then said stopping near the woman. "New here?" Or just lonely, too, she added in thoughts.

Sarah pressed her lips together, and looked around. If this was a CIA exercise, then they weren't doing a very good job. However, it could also be a kidnapping, but who. She wasn't working on any active cases, unless something came up and she hadn't been told. With a soft sigh, she crossed her arms and looked down at the ground.

When she heard a voice next to her, Sarah turned her eye to see a young woman standing there. New there? What the heck was going on...

"Hi," she said, a confused look on her face. "I'm not sure if I'm new here since I don't even know where I am."

"Definitely new then", Rachel said as she sat down next to the woman. Looking at her she then wondered if she'd think she was nuts when she told her what was going on. There was a high probability that she would and Rachel couldn't blame her. She was here for weeks now and still sometimes wondered if she was nuts herself. Someone might just be messing with her head again. Or it was all a dream or something. But it felt real somehow.

"You've been brought here to fight in the final war between good and evil", she then just said. There was no way to break the news in a nicer way. At least she didn't see one and she wasn't one to sugarcoat anything anyway.

"Sounds weird and surreal, I know." She shrugged.

Sarah eyed the girl suspiciously as she sat down next to her. It was becoming more obvious this wasn't a training excercise. According to the girl she was new there, which probably meant she had been kidnapped, and put in some strange compound. Sarah had read about such places but never thought she would end up in one. And, she was determine to find her way out, no matter what.

However, when the girl mentioned something about a fight between good and evil, Sarah's eyebrows shot up. She suddenly saw what was going on, and growled. "Casey put you up to this, didn't he? That son of a bitch," Sarah, her voice even with anger. "Where is he? I'm going to kill him."

Standing from the bench, Sarah started to turn around in circles as she tried to find where Casey was hiding. "You can come out now! Very funny joke, Casey. Who helped you think of it?" she yelled.

Rachel looked at the woman a bit surprised when she started talking about a Casey. Then she sighed. This probably was a normal reaction to finding yourself in a totally weird place all of a sudden. She probably would have accused Marco, if her life was normal at all. But as neither her life nor Rachel was anything but normal anymore she believed that the Ellimist, a very powerful being, had brought them here. It was still strange, but Rachel wasn't too surprised by it.

She then smirked when the woman threatened to kill this Casey. It was something she might have done herself. The threatening part, not the actual killing. She was one of the good guys after all.

Rachel got up as well and waited a moment. "He's not here", she then said. "At least don't think he is." She hadn't met a Casey yet and hadn't seen that name in the book with room numbers the last time she checked.

"I know this all sounds weird and like a stupid joke, but it's real."

Sarah continued to look around, her hand slipping toward her gun. This had to be a joke. And she was goin to kill Casey, and anyone else that was in on it. Making her think she was in some strange town, getting ready to fight some war between good and evil was completely uncalled for. Good and evil didn't have full out wars. That sort of things only happened in the movies and on the television. Not in real life.

Turning her head, Sarah glanced at the girl again. She was kind of young and...innocent looking. Sarah rubbed her forehead and sighed. There was no way Casey would've gotten someone like her in on his joke. Casey wasn't a people person, and had no patience for anyone.

"Fine...Casey's not here. So I'm stuck wherever this place is, and I'm supposed to fight some war? I don't fight wars," she said, crossing her arms. "I protect the country. Anyway, how are we supposed to fight evil? Go to a field, line up and charge at each other?"

Rachel watched the woman. She still looked a bit confused, which was normal.

"I guess so", Rachel answered. It wasn't like she knew everything. They hadn't been given precise instructions or seen whoever brought them here.

When the woman said that she didn't fight wars Rachel felt bad for her. She had once thought the same. She had been just a normal teenager. It almost felt like it was another lifetime. But she wasn't complaining. She didn't want to go back to a normal life. She loved to fight evil. Well, most of the time, when she wasn't having nightmares or had to make horrible decisions about killing people.

"You protect the country? What does that make you? Police, FBI, CIA?", Rachel asked curiously.

Then she shrugged. "I have no idea. We're supposed to be notified when the war officially starts", she said. If it was her decision they'd start right now and get this over with. The sooner they fought here the sooner she could go home and get back to her own war. Her friends and family needed her. The whole planet did!

"I haven't seen a field here. But that would sound good to me", she said. She was lost in thoughts about her home and hadn't even noticed that she said the last part out loud to a complete stranger.

Crossing her arms, Sarah kept looking at the girl. She nodded when she asked her question before uncrossing her arms. Sarah started to pat the pair of jeans she had on, and furrowed her brow when she couldn't find her badge. Well, that wasn't good. Had she left it in her car? She couldn't remember and she hoped the girl would believe her without seeing a badge.

"I'm CIA," Sarah answered. She ran her hands over her jeans again, and once again she sighed. "I don't have my badge on me. Not sure where it is, but I really am an agent for the CIA. So why I'm here, I don't know."

Snorting, Sarah shook her head. "At least they're going to tell us. Guess that's something," she said before looking around. "So do we have to sleep on the streets or what?"

She then looked at the girl again, and furrowed her brow. "A field sounds good to you? Have you done this before?"

Rachel watched as the woman seemed to be looking for something, but didn't find it. When she spoke Rachel guessed that it was her badge.

"I believe you", she said. And even if it wasn't true, who cared? There was no CIA around. The only thing that matteres wad if she could fight. CIA agents surely could. And the woman had a weapon, which was something.

She then nodded. Yes, it was something. She just hoped they'd be told soon enough. She didn't want a surprise attack.

She then smirked. "No, we all get a room." A really nice one. Living here was definitely more comfortable than living in the Hork Bajir village. And it definitely was more luxorious than even their old home.

"Come on, I'll show you", she said.

Rachel glanced at Sarah and frowned slightly. Had she really said that out loud? Well, there was no need for secrecy here.

"Sort of. Didn't really get open fields a lot however." Fields were good. It meant she had enough room to get big. Small places sucked if you could hardly turn your elephant or grizzly body around. And if you crashed through walls the whole building could give in.

Sarah wanted to tell the girl she shouldn't always believe what a stranger told her. However, she decided against it. This wasn't the time to do it since Sarah was trying to get the girl to believe her. Instead, she gave her a smile and crossed her arms over her stomach.

She was happy to know there was a place to stay. Maybe after a good night's sleep she would be able to figure out what was going on. Sarah's mind was muddled with the shock of being here, and she needed to clear it before she could try to contact the CIA. There had to be something to use.

Sarah collowed the girl, shrugging at her comment about open fields. Different people like fighting in different place, she guessed. "I'm Sarah, by the way," she said, giving the girl a smile. "Are there a lot of people here?"

Rachel returned the smile. "I'm Rachel", she said. She probably should have introduced herself sooner, she thought now. She guessed she wasn't that good with people anymore. She used to be. She was really popular and got along well with almost everyone before her life suddenly changed.

"Not that many. But more and more people seem to arrive every day now", she said as she led Sarah towards the living quarters. It didn't take them long to get there.

"That's where we live", she said. "Then she pointed at another building. "The restaurant is over there, incase you get hungry. Everything is free."

They then entered the lobby and Rachel headed for the reception to show Sarah the book, that had everyones room numbers in it.

"It's nice to meet you, Rachel," Sarah said with a small smile. If she was going to be stuck there, she supposed she needed to be friendly to the others here. But Rachel seemed like a nice girl. The type of girl Sarah might have been friends with in high school if her dad hadn't been a con artist, which caused them to move around a lot.

"Good," Sarah said before she caught herself. She gave Rachel a sheepish look. "I do my job better when I don't have a lot of people around, especially if I have to protect them." How many times had she been forced to protect everyone at the Buy More? It was annoying at best.

Looking up at the buildings Rachel pointed out, Sarah nodded. It looked like a decent place, and free food was always good. She then followed Rachel inside and looked at the book. "Looks like I'm in room 104," she said as she scanned the book again, trying to see if she saw any familiar names. When she didn't, Sarah shrugged and looked at Rachel.

"No one in there I know," she said.

"It's nice to meet you, too", Rachel said with smile.

She then turned to look at Sarah. "Who says you have to protect anyone?", she asked a little cocky. Everyone was brought here for a reason. Most were fighters. She guessed that about 90% of the people here could protect themselves. The doctors might be an exception. They were needed for other reasons. "I definitely can take care of myself", she said with a grin.

"That's not far from my room. I'm in 101", Rachel said. "It's this way." She gestured down the hall and waited for Sarah to get her key.

"Sorry", she then said. "Maybe someone will show up. And if not, maybe they are better of staying home."

Sarah found herself raising an eyebrow at Rachel's comment before she softly laughed. "Good to know I don't have to protect everyone," she said. "Where I come from I'm a Handler, which means it's my job to protect someone. And, well, there are times when his family and friends get involved and it ends up to be a huge mess."

Nodding, Sarah started to follow Rachel to where she said her room was. She grabbed her key and continued to walk. Sarah thought about what she said, wondering if it was best of none of them were there. She thought about Chuck, Chuck's family and his band of misfit friends, and Casey. Yes, it was probably a good idea none of them were there.

"I think it's good most of them aren't here. Casey would be the only one not getting himself into trouble," she said before asking, "Where are you from? I'm from California, myself."

Rachel nodded at Sarahs words. It really was good not to have to worry about protecting everyone. Back home it had felt like the weight of the world was on her and her friends shoulders. They had to protect everyone, which was kind of impossible. People died and even though Rachel always pretended to be tough and not care that they couldn't save everyone she really felt bad about it.

"I know what you mean. Families can make things complicated. My mom was good at that", she admitted. "Drove me crazy sometimes." It had been really hard for her mom to accept that there really was a war with aliens going on and that the life she used to have was over.

"I guess so, too. My friends are probably glad not to have to fight in another war." They mostly hated it. And maybe they were done with it now. More than 3 weeks had passed since she came here. The war might be over by now.

"I'm from California, too", Rachel answered. "But I wasn't there when I was brought here."

Sarah continued to walk toward her room, while listening to Rachel talk. It was nice to know there were other people that understood the burden of having to protect other people. Sarah had been doing it since she was young. When her father went out on con jobs, Sarah would always make sure he was all right and didn't get hurt.

She laughed a little and nodded. "My dad had a way of making life interesting," Sarah told her. Her father's "job" took them all over the country until Graham has stepped in, and put her father in prison in order to protect him. He never did tell Sarah who was after them.

"I know Chuck wouldn't want to be here," Sarah said with a laugh. "He'd get bored here without his friends. So where in California are you from?"

When Sarah mentioned her father Rachels thoughts went to her own father. She wondered what had happened to him. They all guessed that they were to late to get him to safety, that he had been made a controller. But they never knew. Maybe he got away. She wished she knew.

She then pushed those thoughts away and glanced at Sarah again. "Yeah, it can be pretty boring here. But I guess it won't stay like that for long. We're here to fight a war after all."

"San Luis Obispo", Rachel answered. Not that there was much left of the city now. "You?"

They then reached Sarahs room and Rachel leaned against the wall.
