Character(s): Faith Lehane, Rachel Berenson, Jacob Black & open
Day: day 3
Time of Day: about 2 pm
Location: gym
Rating: PG-13 probably
Status: incomplete

Faith entered the gym a few minutes before 2. She had made an announcement about a self defense lesson and sparring for more experienced fighters. She thought it was a good way to meet new people and help everyone prepare for the upcoming war.

She then put down the weapons she brought from the weapons storage room. Some might want to train with sticks or even swords. Who knew? John was used to training with two small sticks. She thought it was interesting.

The door then opened and Faith turned around. It was Rachel. She grinned.

"Hi Faith", Rachel said as she entered the gym in a black gymnastic suit, which was also her morphing outfit. She then went over to the young woman with a smile. She liked Faith. She could kick ass and she was showing her how to do it. Maybe some day she wouldn't be that vulnerable in her own human body anymore.

"Hows my most loyal student today?", Faith asked with a grin. Rachel hadn't missed a single training and often asked for private lessons as well. The girl was ambitious and her background in doing gymnastics helped a lot.

"Ready to learn to kick some butt", Rachel answered.

Then they saw a tall young man enter. Faith had seen him around but hadn't really talked to him. He usually looked sad and stayed to himself. Today he however looked more cheerful.

Jacob smiled as he entered the gym. Since he met Sirius he was in a better mood and had decided to get to know other people. The self defense lesson seemed a good way to start. He didn't think he actually needed to learn anything. He could hold his own quite well in his wolf form and was stronger in his human form than any normal human. Bella had once broken her hand when hitting him. He didn't even have to do anything. But he never learned how to fight. Learning some moves might be fun.

He walked over to the two girls to greet them.

Sirius thought he might as well check out this self-defence class. Not that he hadn't enjoyed the morning of sleeping late in a comfortable bed, followed by a wonderfully warm bath. The meal he had afterward was tremendously delicious and appreciated. He vowed he would never take good food for granted again but he grew restless, needing to do more than allow the nagging thoughts he knew would come. The ones where he wished he knew how Harry and everyone else was doing, the ones he couldn't escape while he had been in the grey void behind the Veil.

Here he could do something, apparently preparing for the ultimate battle. It couldn't hurt to learn new skills, could it?

He meandered in, wearing a new black t-shirt, jeans and his old dragonhide boots. A smile broke out on his neutral face when he saw someone familiar.

"Well, it does seem like wherever young Black goes old Black follows!" He nodded to the women. "Ladies."

Jacob had just said hello to the two girl when someone else entered. He turned around and a smile appeared on his face as he saw that it was Sirius.

He then let out a barklike laugh at the older mans words. "You're welcome to follow, mate", he said and clapped Sirius on the shoulder in a friendly manner.

"Here to lean something new?", he then asked. He somehow didn't think a wizard needed to know how to fight.

Rachel glanced up at the newcomer and then from him to Jacob.

"You two related or something?", she asked hearing the older mans words. She wished she had family here. Or maybe not. Her family really wasn't cut out for wars! Unless you counted her cousin, Jake. He was cut out for this! She wished the 'oh so fearless leader of the Animorphs' - like Marco would put it - was here. But at least Tobias had showed up, she though smiling now. He said a few weird things, but the most important thing was that he was here, right? She had missed him the most of all.

"I'm Rachel by the way", she introduced herself and smiled up at the two men. They were both tall. Luckily she was tall for her age as well, or she would have seemed tiny next to Jacob.

Faith smiled at Jacob when he joined them. He was definitely hot! And he seemed to be about her age, maybe a bit older. Before she could say anything however another man entered.

She glanced at him and smiled again. He was probably at least ten years older than herself, but still good-looking.

"I'm Faith. Nice to see you two here", she said.

"Do you have any experience with self defense?", she then asked. If more people came she better divided them into groups according to their skills.

"Learning something new helps hone the old skills," Sirius said with a big smile at Jacob before he spoke to the ladies.

"Pleased to meet you, Rachel, and I don't think we're related but I wouldn't object at all if we were." He meant it too, considering the family he had come from.

"Hello, Faith. Nice to meet you." Sirius lightly scratched the back of his neck and shrugged lightly. "I've had some experience dodging spells," he told her. Had he successfully evaded that last one cast against him by someone who was a blood relative, he wouldn't have been there. Or would he?

Lee walked into the room and saw four others there including Faith, whom he had met on the beach the evening before. He gave her a warm smile and moved to the side of the room to begin his stretching routine. His ankle was a bit sore from the scuffle the night before but he was fairly certain he could get through a reasonably long session without too much discomfort. Having warmed up for about ten minutes he walked over to Faith and said, "If you need another instructor I'm game, or else I'll work as a sparring partner."

He walked around the room and introduced himself to the others one by one, "Lee Adama, pleased to meet you."

Faith had told Buffy about her class but she wasn't sure until now if she was going to go or not. Part of her wanted to just explore some more and well just spend some time by herself but she wanted to start to met the others and besides she could give Faith a hand or two.

Buffy walked into the room in her training clothes, new ones that she bought here, a pair of grey sweatpants and a black tank top. She smiled when she noticed Faith and headed right over to her.

Jacob glanced at Rachel and the laughed at Sirius answer.

He then flashed Sirius a grin. "Wouldn't mind either", he said. Sirius was fun and being related to a wizard would have made him one, too, which would have been a major bonus.

Then he glanced at Rachel again. She was really pretty, but looked very young. He might have wondered what someone so young was doing here, but he was only 16 himself, even if noone would guess that. And he wasn't the youngest in the pack. Age didn't really matter as long as you had the means to fight evil. He wondered what her deal was.

But then more people were coming in and Jacob looked at them curiously. He hadn't met them yet.

Faith smiled, the cheerful mood of the two men rubbing off on her.

"Experience dodging spells?", she asked curiously. "Fought witches before?", she asked. She really didn't like fighting witches. Magic made it harder to kick someones butt.

Then Lee arrived and Faith gave him a smile. She liked him and had seen that he could fight. When he offered to help train she smiled even more.

"Great", she said. it was always good to have someone to help and maybe show the others a different style of fighting.

As the others started to introduce themselves Faith saw Buffy approaching.

"Hey B", she said with a grin. She was glad Buffy showed up. Maybe they could manage to spar a little amongst themselves. It had been weeks since Faith had a worth sparring partner and Buffy was always a challenge.

"Looks like there really are more people already", she then said to her, remembering their talk at the beach.

Sirius nodded to Faith. "You could say that," he commented ruefully, giving her a curious look. He thought she might be interesting to know but others were coming into the room so he let himself mingle.

"Hello, Lee Adama," he returned the greeting of the man who looked more-than-ready to participate in the lesson. "Please to meet you too. I take it you have a lot of self-defence experience?"

Lee chuckled a bit to himself and smiled at the other man. "Enough," he said confidently. "Being on the run from an enemy bent on the total annihilation of your people sort of makes training in all sorts of defensive tactics a priority. Not that I wouldn't prefer to fight with a Viper or a Battlestar under me. Doesn't look like I'm going to have that advantage here though."

"How about yourself? Are you experienced at it or are you going to need some more extensive training?"

He liked this man's confidence and listened with interest. The old saying about everyone having a story was true with a vengeance here. Lee's description fit with the world Sirius had come from, since Voldemort and the Death Eaters were that enemy wanting to annihilate his own people.

"Viper... obviously you don't literally mean a snake -- and battlestar.... Well, we both come from wars, that much is apparent." He glanced from Lee's muscular arms down at his own thinner build. The years in Azkaban were still affecting him and the more recent time behind the Veil hadn't helped his physique.

"I definitely need training at muggle self-defence." Sirius shot a quick glance at his new friend, Jacob, remembering the day before when he had explained to him. "I'm a wizard and anyone who's not is a muggle, you see."

People were starting to talk and get to know eachother. It was a good thing, especially as they would all have to fight together at some point. But it wasn't really why they were here.

"Alright, people, let's get started", she called. "We'll start with some warming up, as Lee already demonstrated. She gave him a smile.

Then she stepped a bit away from the others so everyone could see her and started stretching.

John walked into the gym together with Jennifer. He was wearing his usual training clothes that he always wore in Atlantis. Something familiar was always good, especially in a strange situation like this.

The others were just starting to warm up as they arrived and John made his way over to them. He knew most of the people at least from sight, but some had to be new, so he introduced himself and then found a place for himself to warm up, too.

"Hey Faith, it does seem that way." She remembered how earlier Faith told her that there wasn't many people here yet. It was good that there was more people and people ready to start training.

Buffy stood off to the side a bit as people started to talk, she listened to a few of them and what their stories were. It seemed like they had a good group of fighters from all sorts of places.

Once Faith started to warm up she joined.

Jennifer walked into the gym with John, and set her bag to the side. She looked around, and smiled at everyone before walking over to find a spot to warm up. She knew how to properly stretch so didn't need any help with that.

As she warmed up, she began to wonder what sort of training they were going to do. Always a doctor, Jennifer had made sure to pack a first aid kit - just in case anyone got hurt.

When Faith started to lead the warm-up Lee moved to the back of the room. He kept his own body moving not wanting to lose the readiness he'd already created. He also paid attention to the others in front of him, noting those who seemed to know what they were doing and those who might need some assistance.

Shortly after the warm-up started he noticed John walk in with a woman he hadn't seen before. She seemed to have a good idea of what she was doing on the warmup and he wondered what her story was.

They seemed to have a fairly broad mix of skill levels in the room so Lee continued to observe waiting for Faith to move on to the next part of the class.

Once Faith thought everyone had warmed up enough she stopped.

"We'll start with some simple moves", she announced. "I'll show you and you will try to copy them." It always helped to practice the moves first and then use them in an attack or blocking an attack. It would also help her to see how much experience each of the new people had.

"After that Buffy and I will show you how to use the moves to attack someone or block an attack." She glanced at the other slayer, hoping Buffy was ok with that. She however wasn't worried. Buffy was always willing to help.

She then started to show them the first moves, which included a few punches and defensive strikes.

Rachel smiled as she watched Faith closely. Then she tried to copy the moves. They had done something similar before so it wasn't hard for her to follow.

She concentrated on getting everything right. Once she managed that Rachel started to look around, trying to see how good the new people were. Some seemed to be able to follow easily and others were not that good. Maybe she wasn't the worst anymore.

Lee worked out carefully. Mindful of his still slightly sore ankle he didn't over do it but instead concentrated on control. He kept track of the others also. There were definitely some he might be able to help hone their skills. He wondered how much time they were going to have to get ready.

He also wondered about what Kara had said to him the night before. When he'd found out why he was here he'd been determined to get back to Earth and his people. He still was but getting to know the people here would enable him to figure out if any of them could help him. The more he knew about them the more options he might have to help him and Kara get back.

If he helped them get ready for the fight they might trust him enough to reveal more of their capabilities to him. As he'd learned in War College, everything was an opportunity that could be used to gain a tactical advantage.
