Holding Pens: Elena
As Elena had caused no disturbances or tried to escape, because she knew it was impossible, she was in a pen with a few other women and a couple of children. She wore a sack like dress that covered her slim frame as she knelt in the muck they were supposed to stand and sit in as she tried to sooth a women and her crying child. Elena had seen what the handlers did to humans that made too much noise and she didn’t want either the women or the child to face that.
“It’s ok,” Elena said softly petting the crying child’s head as she gave them both an encouraging smile. “Everything will be ok. No need to cry, ok? You need to be a brave little boy for your mom, ok?” Elena continued to try and sooth the boy which interned calmed the mother down. “Let’s show your mom how brave you can be.” Elena’s smile grew even though she didn’t feel so confident herself. She knew the pair would most likely be split up but there was no reason to bring it up.
She looked at the scared mother as her hand continued to move over the child’s head. “It will be ok. I promise. I will stay with you as long as I can.” Elena then turned her attention back to softly crying boy. “Do you want to hear a story?” The boy nodded slowly which caused Elena to smile more. “Alright. I will tell you a story.”
Elena told a fairy tale that her mother told her about a prince and a princess that had to fight the evil witch that was causing so much chaos. As she continued to tell the story more of the women, specially the children, moved and settled around Elena to listen to what she was saying and tried to forget where they were.
