Carrick listened quietly, but his eyebrows raised slightly at Russell's final words. "That's a diverting thought; my putting you in chains for the night. As for the room, I'll find somewhere. Perhaps we can empty a room of furniture and barricade the door." He thought for a moment. Food was not a subject which interested him so he took little notice of the household accounts and inventories when it came to the food ordered by his steward.
"I give my steward a fairly generous budget to feed the household. It's probable that he has some large cuts of meat in the freezer. The household staff might have to make do with vegetarian food for a few nights," he said. "We'll manage."
He leaned forwards, lips brushing Russell's own as he spoke. "Tell me more about the chains..."
