Damon was honestly surprised at how well Elena had been handling everything. He had expected her to be more panicked, more fragile, but then again she had come from the camps. If even half the rumours about living conditions there were true, she was likely a lot more sturdy than he gave her credit for.
"Fast as we can, and don't worry. I've got this."
Damon opened his door and tried to use his body as a shield between Elena and the worst of the wind. He slammed the door behind her, hoping to give his car some kind of a chance against the storm.
"Ready? Go."
Damon picked her up in his arms, nearly effortlessly, easing her legs around his waist and holding the blanket tight over her back and shoulders. With a vampire's speed, he could move quickly, but the snow was thick and the wind just as fast as he was, and it was hard to make out the cabin that he had seen earlier. After a minute, he left the relative safety of the road, and headed into the forest.
