As Buffy listened to Ambrose and Lucius go back and forth, she honestly wasn't sure what she was feeling. The storm of emotions was intense enough to be almost completely overwhelming, and yet her expression seemed neutral for that moment, almost distant. She stood by her Master's side, still holding onto his hand when she lifted her eyes to look at Lucius.
"I thought you were pretty big on the whole idea that people can change," she said simply. Her voice was fairly level, but her eyes would clearly betray the pain that she felt at the supposed loss of her best friend.
"And I don't want to ever hear you call Giles a coward. He risk his life to find me and teach me. He was responsible for the spell that kept me hidden from the witches. You know what happened to all the others. You're smart enough, even if you didn't read the books. They found them and killed every, last one," Buffy continued, her voice starting to quiver slightly from the emotional outpouring. "So don't ever call him a coward in front of me because without him? I'd have been dead a long time ago."
It was at that point that Buffy turned to hear Evie's own outburst, something that startled her out of her own state. The anger and hurt in her eyes quickly faded as she squeezed Ambrose's hand before letting it go and walked over to where the other girl stood now. She put an arm around her, both trying to be comforting and also in close proximity in case Lucius would try anything after the words she'd said.
"I'm sorry. I'd rather you stay here and deal with this than have you go out in... whatever the hell is happening outside?" Buffy noticed the hail and the snow falling in massive quantities now. "Which, by the way, what the hell?"
