Buffy's senses were heightened but certainly not on the same level as a vampire's. Still, she heard the approach before the knock came at the door. She looked to Ambrose, who seemed prepared himself, and stood up. She thought about going to open the door herself but figured Ambrose already had that covered. Instead, her instincts had her sure to position herself between Evie and the door in case she'd have to intervene in some way. Keeping the other girl safe, after all, was an obvious priority.
"Don't worry about it. We'll handle it," she assured Evie, trying to sound as comforting as she could in spite of the fact that she wasn't quite sure she was ready to Lucius again after Ambrose had slammed the door on his face the other day. But she'd said 'we' for once, not 'I', and that was progress. Her mind spun, trying to come up with some sort of way she could make sure Lucius wouldn't hurt Evie for going out without his permission. Her blood obviously wasn't an option any more.
