"I have a stable boy who sees to the kennels, but I'm sure my girls wouldn't object to having another human to dote on them." He ruffled Elsa's fur again. "Would you, you little diva?" He glanced at Grace again. "They're not allowed on the third floor where the bedrooms are, apart from Anubis. He likes to sit outside my door during the day sometimes."
Carrick led the way out of a pair of french windows in the living room and onto a large patio area. A flagstone path led all the way around the rear of the house and down to manicured lawns and a path leading to a rose garden under trellis covered arches on one side of the house. A large courtyard with a path that led to the stables lay to the east.
The vampire led Grace towards the path to the rose garden. "I don't know who owned this house before me. If it was a vampire, I think he was a daywalker. There aren't enough night-blooming flowers here. I need to rectify that. Do you have any interest in gardening? I'll admit I enjoy the results but the process of actually growing things bores me stupid."
He paused at a white rose bush and took out a pocket knife, snipping of a couple of blooms for the vase in his study.
