Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: [info]olivia_ and [info]felicity_h
When: Late Friday evening
What: Coming to take her to the shelter Felicity works at
Where: First a diner, and then the shelter

After Felicity had talked to Olivia and convinced her to give the shelter a night to keep her safe, she gathered up her shoes and the rest of her things and got into the car. She knew she was doing the right thing, that helping Olivia was very important, and keeping her safe was the highest priority. After that, everything could be taken as it came. On the way there she gave the shelter a call and told them what was going on. They agreed to make up a bed and get another guy or two to keep rounds during the night.

Plus if Olivia wanted her to, Felicity would probably stay herself, if that made her feel better. Pulling up to the diner, she got out of the car and went inside to look for her. Hopefully the girl would actually make it and wouldn't need Felicity to go looking for her. She could only hope that this went as smoothly as she wanted it to go.

Olivia was already there, as the diner wasn't all that far from her tiny apartment. The old woman who owned the diner with her husband often let Olivia spend time in there without buying anything, she even went as far as to give her free food when her husband wasn't around. But she wasn't there that night and so the young brunette was sitting silently at the corner table and picking at a scab on her wrist.

Occasionally she would glance up to see if the redheaded woman was there yet, before she would look back down at the many cuts on her wrist. The sound of the bell ringing above the door caused her to look up again as Felicity entered. Immediately her reflexes kicked in and the fragile girl pulled the sleeve of her well-worn sweater down over the self-inflicted wounds that she had been scratching at.

The diner was mostly full of men and so it wouldn't have been too hard for Felicity to figure out which of the lonely figures was Olivia. As she moved from her table to approach Felicity she made certain her hair was across her face and covering the swollen and bruised marks that were on her face. "Are.. are you Felicity?" she asked faintly, an unmistakable tone of fear residing in her voice as well as in her eyes. "I.. I'm Olivia," she stammered while moving to hug her arms tightly across her chest as a sort of shield.

Glancing around, it didn't take her very long to recognize the other girl. She was the only one that looked scared, and well, she was one of only a few women too. Not to mention the girl was coming towards her. Poor thing, she definitely looked like she needed help, and Felicity was never one to turn away someone who needed it. Especially since that was her job.

She nodded her head, and gave a small smile. "That's me.. it's nice to meet you, Olivia." She just kind of wanted to give the girl a hug, but thought better of it. No need to freak her out or anything, even if she looked like she really needed one. "Are you.. ready to go?" she didn't want to push, but the less time they stayed there, the better, in her mind.

Her eyes glanced around, just to make sure that no one was paying them too much mind. Though Felicity kind of stuck out like a sore thumb in the worse parts of the area. "I promise you'll be okay.." God she really hoped she was.

Olivia bit her lip and the look of fear in her eyes grew slightly when the other woman spoke. But after a moment she finally nodded. "Yes. I.. I think so." The entire time she spoke she avoided the other girl's gaze. The abuse she had suffered not only made her feel inferior to the rest of the world, but it had made her paranoid. She worried that making eye contact with a person allowed that person to read into your thoughts and Olivia certainly didn't want that. There was already too much going on in her head already.

"Are you sure there's no bad people there?" She questioned in her weak voice, even though she had already agreed to going with the other woman just seconds ago. Nervously she looked down and fidgeted with a rip on the hem of her sweater. "You.. you have to promise."

Though she had kind of turned to lead the way out, she turned back towards Olivia. Thankfully she was a bit used to this sort of thing. At least it was her job to help women like her, so that's what she was doing. "I'm sure there's no bad people. Just other girls like you who need a place to stay. I promise you'll be all right, and I promise there aren't any bad people there."

She wanted to reach out and squeeze her hand or something, but she thought physical contact was probably still too much so she just smiled a little. "You'll be okay."

Olivia followed Felicity out of the diner, pausing when the other woman did. "I don't like when they hurt me. I.. I don't like it even though sometimes I deserve it." As if these words had only encouraged her fears she wrapped her arms around herself as a shield.

"Am I going to have to go in a cage?" She asked suddenly as they exited out into the night air. Her arms tightened around her body even more, out of fear and because of the cold. It was getting warmer outside as summer drew closer, but Olivia didn't notice it. Sleeping outside on the streets during the winter had left a permanent chill in her tiny body. "I didn't like to go in a cage. I.. I could fit through the bars, but Abigail couldn't because she got more food."

As if this last statement had sparked a new thought she quickly glanced over at Felicity. For a second the vacant gaze of her eyes met the other girls. "Is.. is there food at the place with no bad people?" Her voice showed a slight hint of excitement.

"I know.. no one likes being hurt. No one. And no one's going to hurt you, I really do promise. You don't deserve to be hurt anymore. You deserve really nice things.. you've been remarkably brave. Much more brave than a lot of people I know." Including herself. She knew she couldn't have ever dealt with something like that. Not in a million years.

Blinking a bit, she frowned and shook her head. She really couldn't believe that someone would treat people this way. "No.. never ever EVER will you go into a cage. You have a nice bed and a nice room. You won't ever be locked in or out of anywhere. You can go where you'd like. We're not going to keep you.." Carefully she reached over and rubbed her back very very lightly.

Fit through the bars? Ouch. Just thinking about it made her shiver. "There's lots of food. We feed you all the time, as much as you can eat all right? Really good food too. Are you hungry now? We can stop somewhere? I'll get you food."

"I do deserve it," Olivia corrected in what might be considered a stubborn tone for her, although it was still much softer and weaker than the average tone of any other person. "Some.. sometimes I have to do it myself." She tugged the right sleeve of her sweater down over her hand and pinched it there between her fingers, keeping the cuts that were there hidden. "It makes me better."

Normally she would have flinched if anybody touched her like that, but there was something calming about Felicity that Olivia enjoyed. In a way she was easy to understand and that was something that Olivia liked. Most people who attempted to help Olivia often tried to force a new way of thinking onto her without giving her any time to adjust to what they were saying and for a girl who was as mentally unstable as Olivia this often proved to be counter-productive. So while there were bruises and other wounds on her back, Felicity's movements were soft enough to be comforting without causing any pain. "I.. I think you're nice," she admitted gently.

"I'm always hungry. But I don't have to eat. I.. I ate on Tuesday. I had crackers and a little bit of apple before somebody took it." Strangely enough she didn't seem to show any signs of caring that the little food she had attempted to eat had been taken from her.

"You hurt yourself? Well that's.. something that happens to a lot of girls I think. Physical pain is sometimes better than feeling so nervous and scared, is that how it feels?" That's what Gideon always told her, or what she read about people who hurt themselves. She didn't exactly understand completely, but she supposed that it was a, at the very least a semi-reasonable, response to what happened to themselves.

Glad that Olivia didn't flinch when she touched her, she smiled gently as she rubbed lightly before stopping. "Thank you, I think you're nice too, Olivia." She didn't want the girl to feel badly about herself, and besides, so far Olivia had been nothing but nice. And she tried to be as truthful as she could possibly be.

Her eyes widened, "Tuesday? Oh dear. You have to eat, honey. It's not good to not eat. You could get sick. What kind of things do you like to eat?" She asked, as she opened up the car so that they could get in and head off. She'd find some place that was open, depending on whatever Olivia wanted to eat.

"No. It's because I'm bad. I.. I have to be punished." Or at least that's what Olivia believed. Unlike most of the things that she had done, causing herself harm was not something she had been specifically told to do. It was something she had told herself to do, as a way of making up for the fact that the man who had started the cycle of abuse she had fallen into, her pimp, was no longer there to punish her for whatever it was that she had done bad. Now she had to rely on strange men who certainly couldn't know just how bad she was.

"I'm always supposed to be nice. Some girls have to or they'll get in trouble. But I don't think you have to, you don't seem bad. That's why people should be nice back to you."

Quietly she slipped into the car after Felicity opened it. Now that she was sitting it was easier for her to fidget with the various rips on her clothing. Sometimes it was all she could do to keep herself from digging her nails into the cuts on her wrists. "I like to eat lots of things. I have to because I don't ever get lots of choices. I just have to eat what I can find, even if it's no good anymore."

Perhaps Olivia's actions were a bit much by some standards, but she didn't think so. The opportunity that wasbeing offered to her was a strange one in her opinion. While the promise of safety and a chance at happiness was a tempting offer, she wondered if it was too good. Going through the shelter door would mean that she was leaving behind the life she thought she deseved. Would she be doing something bad by doing something most would consider good? Her inner struggle continued for another moment before she followed Felicity's instructions and breathed in deeply.

She followed Felicity through the open shelter door, cautiously peeking inside before going in. Once she was safely inside the shelter she looked around again, taking in her surroundings. It wasn't as scary as she thought it was going to be, even though she still didn't know what to expect. She looked back to Felicity as she let go of her hand finally and watched as she closed the door. "If.. if I get scared I can leave right?" she asked faintly.

Though she didn't know quite exactly what Olivia had gone through, she understood how nervous she was being and didn't think she was acting anyway but how she was. She'd seen a lot of girls like that, because a lot of them were in the shelter, and had been over the course of the years that Felicity had worked there. They all were varying degrees of course, but this wasn't anything she hadn't seen before. Maybe that's why she had a lot of patience.

Letting her go first, she let Olivia take her time and look around. The lobby was pretty spacious, and there was a woman at the desk that Felicity waved at, and who waved back. "Of course. Any time you want. Do you want to eat first? There's a lot of tables around the corner there." She didn't think anyone would be there though, it was pretty late. "After that if you want we can take a look around, I'll show you everything so you can see for yourself."

Olivia looked nervously towards the woman at the desk in the lobby and moved slightly so that Felicity was now between her and the new woman. She nodded quickly at the offer to go eat in a different area. She was too frightened in that moment to function well in this different enviorment, especially with yet another stranger there. "There.. there won't be people look.. looking at us, will.. will there?" She wasn't prepared for the paranoid feeling she got wrong when surrounded by people. First she had to get used to her surroundings so she could formulate a plan to escape if danger was coming in her direction.

Before she got an answer she was slowly inching in the directiom that Felicity had indicated as to where the tables were where they could eat. "I... I'm hungry." She admitted faintly. "We... We won't be in the way?"

Thankfully she'd called ahead when she said she was going to get Olivia and told everyone working that they shouldn't be disturbed for a while by either the staff or any of the other girls who stayed there. "No, there won't be anyone there, promise." She didn't want the girl to feel overwhelmed and figured that she needed lots of space and quiet so she didn't feel that way.

She shook her head, "No not at all. Don't think anyone's back there eating. So it's all ours.." she smiled reassuringly and then started to walk that way towards the tables, and once they got there, she set the bags of food on the table. "Is this okay?"

"Be.. Because they're all sl..sleeping?" Olivia asked curiously when Felicity told her that nobody should be back where they were. "I.. I'm sorry that.. that you're not sleeping right now." She followed Felicity to the table and looked around carefully, her eyes scanning under the tables as if searching for somebody who might be hiding there.

When she obviously didn't find anyone she moved to sit at the table where Felicity had put the food. "It.. It's good," she agreed weakly, her fingers slowly creeping towards the back of food infront of her, almost like a child trying to steal from the cookie jar without being caught.

"Uh huh, yep. Oh no, it's okay. I'm always awake honestly. I can't sleep. I think I have.. chronic insomnia? Or something." She sat down at the table, and then went to open up the bags of food, or at least the ones that Olivia hadn't opened yet. "I just only sleep for an hour or two at night, sometimes not even then. I just can't.." she shrugged.

It was easier to talk about the fact that she couldn't sleep than anything else. At least that was kind of neutral territory or something. Once everything was pulled out of the bag, she began to eat, motioning for Olivia to go ahead. She kind of figured that the girl would look for some subtle sign of permission or something.

"Because you see bad things when you try to sleep?" Olivia questioned curiously as she watched Felicity talk. She couldn't see any other reason as to why somebody wouldn't sleep and she certainly knew all about having the horrors of your life keep you awake at night. Normally her nightmares came in the form of being unable to save her best friend from death or just memories of all the abuse she had suffered.

Once Felicity started to eat and indicated that Olivia should so the same she quickly opened her chicken nuggets. Even though the chances of somebody coming along and stealing her food was slim, that didn't prevent Olivia from trying to eat it all as quickly as possible just in case somebody did decide to take it. One thing she had learned on the streets was that just because you have food one minute it didn't mean you would have it the next.

Actually Olivia was right on the money. She nodded her head a bit, "Yeah. Every time I fall asleep for very long I just.. it's horrible, you know? All of those bad things." Maybe it was because she worked with people who had all of that bad stuff happen to them. They told her about being hit, stabbed, shot, all of it. Or maybe she just had a really overactive imagination. Either way, her nightmares were always vivid and real and so she didn't want to sleep perhaps.

Though she'd been mildly worried about Olivia eating so fast, she let her do as she pleased. She didn't eat quite so fast because well, she didn't know how. But that was all right, she wasn't exactly starving like Olivia was. It was more important for her to eat all of her food than anything else. "Feel any better?" she asked, now that Olivia was done.

"Would.. would he hurt me?" Olivia asked softly as she looked back down at her lap and rubbed roughly at the cuts on her wrist through the sleeve of her sweater. "I.. I.. if I was bad would you let him?" She glanced up at Felicity through the curtain of dark hair that shielded her beaten face.

Felicity shook her head adamantly, "No, John would never ever hurt you. John's a lot of things, but he'd never hurt anyone, especially not a girl." Well maybe she shouldn't have said anyone because he did have a temper but she'd never think he'd raise a hand to anyone unless it was some jerk in a bar. "I'd never ever let him hurt you. She could feel that she had caused the cuts on her wrist to start to bleed again, so she stopped rubbing at them and instead hugged them across her chest again. "I am bad," she said finally. Because she still had her arm around her a little, she moved just so that she could wiggle around as much as she needed to get comfortable. "Because we finally stopped being prejudice to people that were different. Or most of us anyway. Women didn't have any rights for a very long time in this country. But finally we showed them that we are just as capable of working as men, and that not all of us wanted to stay at home and have babies."

Olivia bit her lip for a moment before scratching at the back of her hand, which was practically raw from her scratching at it whenever she got uncomfortable.
