Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
WHO: Jack and James Lenexa.
WHERE: Library.
WHEN: 6pm.
WHAT: Trying to find a good read.
RATING: PG-13 so far.

Jack wasn't like these people who sat there playing their computer games, talking to their friends or listening to their IPods. She was on a mission. A mission to find a good book. Finally picking up The Fountainhead, her fingers flipped through the crisp pages of the book. Ayn Rand. Always a classic. Then there was the ever faithful Watership Down, which was...about bunnies strangely enough. Too many books, and not much time. The library closed at 9pm tonight and it was already six. It was funny who was on her mind but that guy who had gotten into a car accident a while back. Why she thought of it was beyond her. Yeah she felt horrible about it, and pretty much everyone and their mother tried to blame him... but for once, she knew how it felt. Not to run someone over and kill them... but more or so to know what it was like to regret something, to feel hurt and pain. Sure everyone knew these emotions, but more or so some had to deal with it alot more than others.

James sighed quietly, fingers running gently over the spines of the books as he walked slowly down the aisle. HE was there for a book on celtic imagery - a friend of his wanted a tattoo done, and he was in charge of coming up with the design for it. He had a couple of books cradled in the crook of his arm already, sketchbook, pencils and markers in the small backpack slung over his shoulder. Really, he could have blended in with any of the college, and even high school students there, but he had already graduated. Turning down another aisle with his eyes fixated on the books, he relented to see the rather pretty woman he oh, so stupidly bumped into, causing him to drop the books. "Geez..." He muttered, leaning down. "Sorry about that.." He murmured, going down to pick them up and then standing to his feet, eyes widening when he saw who it was. "Jack? Is that really you?"

When someone bumped into her had the woman had a good grip on gravity here with her balance, however what looked like a kid didn't so much have a good one. Jack would have moved to help him with the books but failed to see what the point of it was when he had gathered them quickly and then saw the familiar face. "James." a pause. The girl didn't know how fond he was of his real name, so she continued with "Jamie." rolling off her tongue instead. "Yeah it's me... what...how?" puzzled to say the least.

"I was actually just thinking about you, no bull shit." the Latina smiled, gathering her own books underneath her arm, but decided against it when she knew she was going to actually read them with so many things swimming in her head, so placing the books down on one of the middle shelves had the petite girl leaned in to embrace him once he had gotten himself organized from the klutzy moment.

Jamie was certainly shocked to see her here. She had been... Well, she was the one to take care of him a couple of months shy of a year ago when he had been in the car accident. A memory that he hated to recall, but if there had been a positive aspect to it, it was her. She had probably been the nicest person to him through all of this; and probably because she was the only one that really knew. She, his parents, and the doctors at Chicago General.

He placed the books on the shelf beside hers for just a moment, arms wrapping around her slender waist and his body very gently pressing against hers in a warm hug. Pulling back from it and dropping his arms down at his side, he couldn't resist a smile and a light laugh. "Really? Were these good thoughts or thoughts that I should be worried about, officer?" He teased, taking the books from the shelf and lightly nudging her hip with his own, to emphasize that he was teasing.

"Decent enough." oh touche, she could be flirty too. "Just was thinking about, gee whatever happened to that guy." sarcasm, as Jack would never use gee in a sentence, ever. The woman smiled. "How is everything? My apartment is a mess, my friend is actually painting it, her name's Chase, she's one of the infamous artists around here. Her stuff is pretty good." random food for thought. "You look good. Like you've gotten sleep." a motherly side coming into play despite their obvious attraction.

Pushing some ebony strands out of her face had she studied him for a moment.

Giving the older girl a joking eye roll, his hand came up and tucked some of his own hair behind his ear, laughing quietly. "Really? That's cool. I've probably seen it." He said, and he chuckled. "Every thing's fine. Remember that little promise you made me make to you? About how I had to finish college?" He waited until there was affirmation of the promise until he spoke again.

"Well, I did it. got my degree and now I'm working at the tattoo shop over on 7th." He told her, azure eyes linking with hers before he shrugged. "Barely. Can't sleep some nights." He did suffer from occasional insomnia, but nothing that couldn't be put under control with vicodin and a couple of shots of vodka.

"See? Now that's kick ass." elbowing him lightly at the arm. "Pretty soon you'll be on television with whatever the hell they have on MTV these days. Doin' everyone's tattoos." biting down on her bottom lip, but she did smile however it soon faded when he had mentioned that he couldn't sleep. "Can't say it'll get better, I'm not going to sugarcoat it." frowning. "But it might."

She peered around a shelf for a moment in the effortless joke of what she'd always asked him everytime she saw him. "Where's the girlfriend?" a smirk.

He gave her a soft chuckle, laughing a bit. "Nah. I'll be on TLC or whatever with Miami and L.A. Ink." He grinned, and he nodded. "I know. But thanks to my good friend Mrs. Vicodin, it gets a hell of a lot easier."

Sighing softly and leaning his shoulder against a shelf, Jamie put the books down and laughed, eyes coming up to meet her's once again. "Still single." He smirked at the beautiful woman in front of him. "What about you, hot stuff?" Jamie winked.

"God, I need to watch television again. MTV? What the hell? They play a bunch of crap now anyway." Normally, Jack wouldn't take this crap from anyone else, and it was pretty obvious he was silently hitting on her. But this was Jamie she was talking about here, it was almost as if she might let it happen, but at the same time it felt like it wasn't time. Who knew with her. Always confused, always the loner, it was hard to let anyone in. Though a chuckle would follow from his first comment about the sleep.

"Single." her husky voice replied with one of those shy smiles.

James wasn't really trying to hit on her, per se, it was more or less... Flowing out of him. Almost a natural response. "Yeah, they do." He laughed quietly, and when she spoke, he looked shocked. "For real?" He said, with a laugh.

"You need to stop with the whole lone wolf, bad cop thing, Mami," He joked, calling her a word he had picked up from her during his stay in the hospital. "Find you a nice guy, fuck him for a bit, then find a better guy and date him." Jamie laughed at that.

Furrowing her eyebrows for a moment had they raised and she found herself covering his mouth sarcastically and lightly with a hand. "Watch your mouth Papi." laughter as her hand dropped back to her side leaving him to speak freely. "I'm not a lone wolf. I just...I don't know , live my life I guess?" it was funny, the woman never really considered herself a loner. Well okay, she did, considering she had zero friends, except for the newly acquainted Chase and maybe Jamie but it was more like... ah the hell with it, she didn't know.

"Some skank down the street can do that. Or practically half the female population of Chicago." a snicker.

Grinning, Jamie smirked when her hand came against his lips, turning his head a bit and playfully biting one of her fingers before letting her hand drop down. "Whatever." He grinned, and with a soft smirk he shrugged.

"Yeah, but... You don't see me inviting some skank or the entire population of Chicago back to my place for drinks, do you?" He asked with a slight quirk of his eyebrow, and he grinned just a bit. "You in?"

When he had nipped her finger lightly she had given him one of those 'hey!' looks. "Where exactly is this going, Jamie?" biting down on her bottom lip a little, looking at him. Jack couldn't help but smile, and in some insane part of the world, she was blushing lightly. Which was rare.

James laughed a bit quietly, shoulder going back to lean against the shelf before he spoke, just as quietly. "What? Can't two old friends catch up over drinks?" His eyes conveyed something else, though. And he was sure that she saw; even if the meaningful gaze wasn't intentional.

Her own dark hues peered to his gaze and she definitely saw something else there. Jack looked away for a moment and then she looked up. "I might have a better idea if you trust me, and it doesn't include me getting drunk." and with that she tipped her head to the side in a 'follow me' fashion and moved to the stairs.

Biting down gently on his lower lip as she spoke, he couldn't resist a soft, almost non-existent laugh before he spoke. "Oh, believe me. I think I trust you now," He spoke and as she tipped her head, he followed behind and slowly walked up the stairs behind her. He couldn't resist lifting his eyes, taking in the view that he had before falling into step beside her and speaking. "Where are we going, Jack?"

Laughing lightly had she began up the stairs a little quickly but not too quick, letting her hand trail up the railing as she went. "You'll see." Jack moved under the rope that had been locked off for the night, as it was getting late but not too late, being locked in a library would suck. Her hand held the rope up for him so he could dip under as well. "When they built this place, the upstairs was closed off, they're doing some repairs up here...meaning you could fall through the floor." scaring him sarcastically. There were some loose boards around but what the brunette saw was a darkened hallway upstairs to the left, and there seemed to be sturdy bookshelves that if something seemed to fall against them they wouldn't tip over. A small grin formed on her lips.

"It's like Harry Potter, the restricted section of the library." in a ta-da motion with her hand. It was darker up there with less light, there was an old couch not too far and shelves upon shelves of books.
