Open: To any and all

There are many facts of life. The earth is round. The grass is green. Sam cannot cook to save her life. So why in the world she thought that throwing a dinner party was a good idea was now beyond her comprehension. After spending most of the day cleaning up from various cooking disasters, she'd gone for the easier option and just ordered everything from local restaurants that seemed to have good reviews. Steak and mashed potatoes and grilled veggies, an assortment of various chinese food dishes, catfish and hush puppies, four pizzas including one must-have pepperoni and of course, the necessary assortment of beverages of the non-alcoholic and alcoholic variety; all were at the ready for this shindig. By some small miracle, the house was clean, the table was set, the food was warming in the oven. The kids were all upstairs in random states sleep or play, but content since their bellies were full and they had new toys to keep them amused and out of the way of the adults. And now the hostess, Sam, paced the hardwood floors anxiously awaiting the arrival of her guests. Dressed casually in skinny jeans, knee high boots and a tunic length striped sweater, she picked at her nails and chewed at her lip, anything to avoid going out for a smoke. Damnit, people better show up or else she might just eat all of this food herself.

Since being in Chicago, Ava had very rarely gone out of her way to meet people. She wasn't the most outgoing person in the world when it came to meeting people, but once she knew someone, and was comfortable, a different side of her came out. She had spoken to Sam a few times, so going to her place for a dinner get-together was something she was looking forward to. Especially if it meant finally meeting her face to face, and finally meeting some new people to form some sort of circle with. Dressed simply in a pair of black pants that buttoned at the waist like that of the sailor style pants with slightly overzied buttons, and an off-white sweater that fell off of her shoulders slightly, she would make her way up the walk way to Sam's house. Her finger pressed the doorbell as she took a few steps back from the door. Cuddling herself into the black jacket that she wore as a breeze went by she shuddered lightly. Even though Boston and Chicago both had similar climates when it came to the winter months, the wind in Chicago made things seem that much colder and needless to say... Ava was not a fan.

Hearing the bell, Sam perked up. Someone was finally here, Thank God! Rushing to the door, she pulled it open with a deep breath and a big smile to the first arrival. Ushering the pretty woman inside, she closed the door behind her, getting her into the warmth before offering to take her coat and letting the introductions begin. "Come in, come in! Thanks so much for coming. Let me take your coat. I'm Sam, obviously. And you're... Ava, right?"

Upon seeing the door open a smile crossed Ava's lips, it was good to finally meet Sam in person rather than just bantering over the internet like they had been. "Oh thanks." That classic smile of hers remaining on her face as she removed her jacket and handed it off to Sam. "Yes, I'm Ava. It's great to finally meet you." Ava offered an introductory hug and a half kiss to her new friend's cheek. Pulling back she would glance around the house, it was very nice. Her arms slipped across her chest as she leaned back on her heels a little bit. "So I take it I'm the first one here?" Glancing at the watch on her wrist to see if she was early, and she was but only by a few minutes.

"A beautiful name, it's also my step-daughter's name." Smiling to her, she hung up her coat in the closet and then showed her into the living room to the couches to have a seat. There were little plates of hors d'oeuvers set out already for the guests. "It is great to meet you. I know like... almost no one around here, so it's good to finally get some human, adult contact." Straightening, she sighed and ran her hands nervously down the front of her jeans. "Yes, you're the first. So, you win a drink. What can I get you?"

If there was one thing that people needed to know about Eliana was that she was perpetually late. No matter how early she would prepare for an event circumstances almost always made sure that she'd arrive after the alloted time. This time it was the babysitter. Despite the weather, the drive to Sam's house was relatively short and easy, meaning she didn't get lost, which was rather shocking as she's also known for having absolutely no sense of direction. Dressed rather casually in a pair of dark wash skinny jeans, an ivory colored mid-thigh length cashmere sweater ,and chocolate brown knee length heeled boots, she bared the cold for a few moments longer as she made her way towards the door and rang the bell. While she waited, she pulled out her phone and just like the overprotective mother she was, called the babysitter to make sure things were going alright. After going over the same instructions she went over with her before she left home, the sitter finally convinced Eliana that it was alright to hang up, which she did and slid the device back into her purse.

Hearing another ring of the bell, Sam excused herself and went to answer the call. Swinging open the door, she smiled to Eliana, welcoming her inside. "Welcome! You're... let me guess. Eliana, right?" Biting her lower lip, she really hoped she'd gotten it right. There weren't a ton of people slated to appear, but she was trying really hard to get everyone's names right and make sure everyone had a good time. Closing the door behind her, she showed the newest guest inside and to the living room area where Ava and the appetizers were. "Make yourselves at home. Drinks, ladies?"

She was just about to ring the bell again, when the door opened. A wide smile replaced her usual serious demeanor when the lady greeted her, "Right. It's nice to meet you. I'm assuming you're Sam, right?" She asked, although she was pretty sure that the woman in front of her was the hostess of the event. "I brought you some wine. Nothing too fancy, but it does the trick." She spoke, as she made her way into her home, towards the living room where another guest was waiting. Not wanting to seem anti-social, Eliana went over to introduce herself, "Hi. I'm Eliana." Turning her attention back towards Sam as she posed her question, "I'll take one."

"Wine always does the trick!" Laughing lightly, but a real laugh for the first time in a long time, Sam situated Ava and Eliana with their chosen drinks and escorted Allie and Caerwyn in. Once everyone was in the living room and all proper introductions were made, she went to making sure all glasses were full, and stomachs did not go empty. There was all of the requested food, plus lots more, and she set it up buffet style, figuring that would lead to a more social setting for everyone to talk and mingle. Pouring herself a glass of the wine that Eliana had brought, she took a sip and then smiled to the gift bearer. "Either I haven't had a drink in a while, or this is really good!"

Allie was super excited. Since moving to Chicago, she hadn't really had too much time to spend with her big sister. They'd really only hung out about twice, and even then it was surrounded by their many minions. As much fun as playdates are, they are never really a good forum for adult conversation. So now as she rang the bell, Allie bounced on her heels in anticipation. Outfitted in a grey cable knit sweater dress, black leggings and black open toed shoe booties, she pulled her cropped leather jacket tighter, bright pink scarf tucked inside. Vivid blues turned to the guest beside her with a grin. "You're going to love Sam. She's not exactly as awesome as me, but then again, no one is." Erupting into a fit of giggles, she shook her head, blonde waves falling around her shoulders. "Just kidding."

This was really going to be the first social thing that Caerwyn had done since moving to Chicago and he was a little anxious about it. Not dressed in anything special, just some slack and a light sweater he stood next to Allie on her sister's stoop hoping that everything was going to go well and that he wouldn't make a complete fool of himself. "Well I've yet to meet anyone half as awesome as you but since you're related I bet she ranks pretty close," he smiled at her.

Hearing the bell yet again, Sam excused herself from her female guests, leaving them to chat and eat amongst themselves. Answering the door with a nervous smile and a sigh, she had to blink twice at the guests on the other side of the threshold. She hadn't been exactly sure if her baby sister was coming, and now that she was here, she was surprised. And to see her with a companion, a male companion at that, was even more startling. Stuttering over her words for a moment, she hesitated before stepping back to allow them inside. "W-welcome. Come... inside, please."
