Who: Henry Jr and Open
When: September 25 (Wednesday afternoon)
Where: Magic School
What: Dealing with his new ability
Status/Rating: INCOMPLETE/PG/PG-13ish

It had been a while since what had happened at his apartment building and since then he didn't even leave his dorm room at magic school. He was glad that Leo had let him stay at magic school for a while. He just felt safer here. Usually he would just sit quietly on his bed, he didn't know how to handle this new power or the reactions of mortals. It was a little too much for this firestarter. When he stood up he kept his hands close to his body, afraid that if he reached out he would set something on fire and wouldn't be able to put it out. And he definitely didn't want a repeat of what had happened. Leo came by sometimes asking if he wanted to come out so one of the professors could help him learn to control of his new ability but every time he just asked Leo to go away. But today he was going to make a step of leaving the room and that was sitting in his room with the door open. Plus it would air out his room. As he sat at the desk he kept looking toward the door every few minutes.

Sometimes Billie seriously regretted not binding Christy's powers. As if the telepathy wasn't frustrating enough, Christy had picked up her aunt's other power of pyrokenesis recently. And while they had gotten it under control, and kept an extinguisher in every room of the house, whenever Christy wanted to have a hissy fit, she set things on fire. Billie was at her wits end. She had done so well helping Phoebe raise her girls, and yet somehow raising her own daughter was like pulling teeth. Daily. It was like Christy was the manifestation of all her aunt's anger. And it was making Billie crazy!

Dropping her daughter off at Magic School's daycare was about the only thing she could think of right now. She had to work, and she couldn't leave Christy with her normal babysitter today. And if she spent one more minute with her daughter, Billie was going to turn Christy into a toad! So after a shouting match in the hallway, Billie convinced Christy to stay in the classroom. And when leaving she got so flustered that she actually got lost. Go figure!

It wasn't until Billie spied Henry Jr through a wide open door that she realized where she was. Although after seeing the look on his face, she figured work would have to wait another hour or so. Billie knew what had happened to Henry and at this point she figured he could use someone to relate to. "I guess my getting lost was divine intervention." Billie smiled from the doorway, knocking as she spoke. "Mind if I come in?"

Henry had looked up at the door and saw Billie, part of him hoped that she would just look in then go away but no much luck. Then he heard Billie ask if she could come into his room. He wasn't going to tell her to go away, it wasn't like she was just a student here who just wanted to bother him. "Yeah sure come in," he forced a small smile. "Were you dropping off Christy?"

"Dropping off, getting rid of... it's all the same, right?" Billie smirked a little. Then wandered over and sat on the edge of his bed. He looked positively miserable. In fact, he looked like she could remember Parker looking when her powers got the best of her. These poor kids! All their powers were running amuck. It must have been something in the air. Maybe the stars were aligning just right or something, she'd have to ask Paige about that one. She always seemed to know what was going on in the cosmos.

"Christy's having problems like yours... except I think she's doing it on purpose." Well, okay, there was no thinking about it. Christy said she was going to and then she did. She WAS doing it on purpose. And poor Henry just couldn't control it. "You look like someone ran over your puppy, Jr. Cheer up a bit. No one got hurt. And I know you, you can definitely handle this."

"I'm sure it pretty much the same thing," he said with a half laugh. He had watched Christy on occassion and she could be quite the handful when she wanted to be. He sometimes envied the little girl because of the control of her powers, it seemed to some natural to her. He didn't think that he would ever get a hang of his abilities and he had them for longer then her.

"I'm sure that she's doing it on purpose. She's always giggling after wards," he smiled as he looked over to Billie. "Is she giving you a hard time?" He kind of felt bad for the daycare at magic school having to take care of Christy.

"Yeah, yeah I know I can. I just can't.... Every time I think about leaving the room I can't stop thinking about what if I hurt someone."

Sometimes Billie wondered if perhaps Christy's dad might have hidden some demon heritage from them. Because that was the only logical explanation Billie could come up with. Normal children did not act out like she did. Or at least no children Billie had ever had to face. Maybe Phoebe was just lucky with her girls. Wyatt had been a handful, sure, but not intentionally like Christy was. And yes, PJ had her moments, but she never made trouble for Billie. It was like that's all Christy wanted to do.

"I think this is my punishment for being a pain in the ass to my own parents." Of course Billie had a good reason to be a pain in the ass growing up. She was fairly certain Christy was just doing it to get a rise out of her. It wasn't like she lacked anything, except her dad now. But she had plenty of family to make up for that. And the only one she ever behaved for was Piper, and that was because (like everyone else) Christy was afraid of Piper.

Crossing her arms and cocking her head to the side in a way that was absolute pure Billie, she raised an eyebrow at Henry. "I have known you since you were hardly a little person yet. I've never known you once to intentionally or unintentionally hurt someone in your whole life. I think your problem is more confidence than actual danger. Get up! Get out there! You'll never know until you give it a try, right?"

"I heard some stories about your parents," he looked over to Billie. "I heard you turned them into assassins or something." He couldn't picture Billie not being able to control her powers. While when he thought about it he couldn't picture his mom without complete control of her ability. Although he was sure that at one point didn't have control of her abilities. He would like to see that one day.

Henry turned his head away from Billie as she spoke. "Did you see what I did?! My entire apartment building was almost burned to the ground," he still couldn't believe he was capable of doing that. He looked at the door and shook his head. It wasn't like he hadn't tried to leave but he always stopped short of the dorm room door.

"I've been thinking about binding my powers," he turned toward Billie. "To just stop it all before it causes anymore problems."

Billie laughed. She hadn't thought about that in years. It was terrible at the time, funny afterward, and quickly forgotten in the following battle. But it was pretty amusing. "Yeah, it was completely unintentional. I was the typical angry teenager, throwing words around that I didn't mean... except that my projection had just recently manifested." Billie shrugged a little. "It all turned out okay in the end.

"Whiiiiich!" Billie sat up a little straighter. "Is another reason you should stop worrying so much. Your mom and aunts and I have all had our problems with new powers. And it always turned out okay. What makes you think it'll be any different for you? We didn't even have a great support system like you've got."

Billie hopped up off the bed and crossed the room. She pulled herself onto his desk and crossed her legs. "Binding your powers is no way to fix it, Henry. Really. I know you can handle this. How about you come work on it with me? I can make sure it doesn't get out of hand. Sound good?"

"I couldn't imagine something like that really happening," he laughed. He had thought that it was just a story that his mom stretched the truth a little to make their lives more interesting or something. "That is so funny," then he paused for a moment. "They didn't end up killing anyone, did they?" He didn't think that would be as funny if that had happened.

"I don't know," he said as he turned his head away from Billie and pulled his knees into his chest. "Its not like I've had control over my power and then this happens. I thought that when you get older you're suppose to have more control but it doesn't seem to be getting any easier." He had never been in full control of his ability ever since he was a child. He figured that he would get a power advancement after he was in control of his old level of power but this had just come out of no where.

He thought for a moment. Did he really want to practice such a dangerous power with someone who was like family? Well did he want to practice it with a stranger? Not really but he had to do something or he would probably just stay in this dorm room till the end of time. "I guess we can try that. But when? Don't you have to get to work?"

"No. Thankfully your mom and aunts helped me stop it before it got out of hand." Although thinking back on it, it was a pretty close call. Billie was a little fuzzy on the details, but she remembered that whatever had happened, her parents had been set up. That was what counted most. That they were set up and that eventually she'd been able to fix them. If she could handle that, surely Henry Jr could handle this.

Billie sighed. She felt like she'd been through this conversation a million times. It seemed like every time Parker had a migraine she said the same thing. But at least Parker's power wasn't dangerous. Billie just needed to convince Henry he could handle this. She believed he could, it was just about making him believe it.

"Well, magic doesn't really work like that. It's not about when you think you're ready." If it were, there would be a lot of witches with low-self esteem and no powers. And far too many arrogant witches with powerful abilities. Thankfully the Elders worked differently than that. "I don't think you would have this new power if you couldn't handle it."

Checking her watch, Billie shrugged. "I get paid a salary. My job is there when I feel like working. I can go in late tonight or, you know, go in on Saturday or something." Billie hopped off the desk and gestured toward the door. "Come on, Jr. Let's find you an inflammable room to practice in."

Henry had figured his mom and aunts helped out, after all that was the job of the charmed ones. To help out innocents and those who had problems helping themselves. Somethings never change no matter how many years go by. "That's good. It would have been really bad if they ended up killing someone," he shrugged.

"That makes sense. We think you can handle this, by the way please don't kill anyone," he sighed. Henry was actually surprised to hear that no one was killed in his apartment. He was so sure that someone would be and that killed him inside. He was so glad to here that everyone had gotten out alright. "I could have killed people."

Henry stopped up and followed Billie to the door, he stopped just as he was about to step out of the room. Was this really a good idea?

"You could have, but you didn't. And everyone has mishaps when they first get their powers." There wasn't a single person Billie could think of who hadn't had something bad happen to them. Piper blew up half of some legal department and almost revealed magic to the world. Phoebe got stuck on the ceiling. Paige got hit with a horrible bout of personal gain issues after spreading the magic good luck around. Christy nearly burnt the house down. It was inevitable. Henry just had to understand that and have faith that he wasn't alone and he could do this. That's where Billie came in.

She stopped in the hallway when she realized Henry hadn't stepped out of the door. "C'mon. You're not going to learn anything standing there. And you can't just stay inside your whole life. It's time to get out here and take control. Come on. Let's go." Billie was, as an adult, just as bossy as she ever was as a teenager. And now she had the experience to back it up.

"Its not impossible to do that, just have Leo bring me food," he said with a half laugh. He was only partly joking about that. Henry knew Billie was right but he was still afraid of what he could do now. He started to take a step back, he just wanted to shut the door and have this all over with already. But he grabbed an extra pair of sweat pants and stepped out. At first he thought that the whole hallway would just burst into flames the moment he stepped out but it didn't which was a good sign for him a least.

"See I'm out. So where are we going to do this?" he asked as he looked down the hall.

Billie waved the door closed as soon as Henry had stepped out. With her powers, from the outside, she clicked the lock on the inside. She knew better than to think he wouldn't try to go back there if he got a bit paranoid. And Billie wasn't having that. She never understood why the Halliwells (the sisters and their kids) were so reluctant about their powers. When Billie found out she was a witch all she wanted to do was practice. She didn't even care why she had powers or what it meant. She wanted to use them to do good. She jumped head first. Practically all of the Halliwell line was so reluctant about their powers... so to make up for it, Billie was a little bit pushy.

"There's empty classrooms all around. We'll just find one that's mostly empty and get started." Billie waited for Henry to catch up and slid her arm around his shoulder. "Don't look so terrified, Jr. I promise I won't let anything happen to you or anyone else, okay? You can trust me with that much."

When Billie waved the door shut and locked it Henry could feel himself get more nervous. He felt safe in the dorm room and he didn't out here. He could already feel himself panicking as he did before he set fire to his apartment building. But then Billie slid her arm around his shoulder. He didn't know why but it helped a little bit. "I..I know you won't. It's just last time," he paused. "I couldn't stop last time, not with out.." But he wasn't about to mention Ginny.

They walked for a little bit until the got to one of the classrooms that was used for practicing active powers. "Do you think this one would work?" he asked looking at Billie.

"Well I know you couldn't. That's why we're going to practice." Apparently Henry Jr had never heard the phrase practice makes perfect or at the very least had forgotten it. And, yes, she heard his little almost slip. But Billie figured that pushing something that he didn't want to talk about was probably not the best way to get him to loosen up. If he got nervous he would never let himself learn to control this.

Pushing open the door, Billie waited for Henry to go in before closing it and locking. "Empty, four walls, a floor and a ceiling. Works for me." Billie pulled herself up onto an empty table, crossing her legs at the ankle. "Alright, Jr, light something on fire." Himself, a desk, a wall. It really didn't matter to her. He needed to catch fire before he could learn to control it.

Henry had heard of the practice makes perfect phrase but he didn't see how right it was. He didn't really that much of his ability before this new power boost and he had his fire ability since he was three. He practiced all the time, even spent hours after school when he was younger practicing more. He didn't understand why most of his cousins had the powers at least a little under control and he was always having issues with it.

He kind of wished that Billie was in a protective shield like Wyatt had. He didn't want to accidentally set her on fire or get her burned. He would never forgive himself if that happened. But he was going to do as Billie told him to do. Set something on fire, that seemed easy enough. Although he hadn't used any part of his fire ability since it happened. He took a deep breath before he held out his hand toward one of the desk. And..nothing happened. Damn it he thought as he shook his arm then expended it back at the desk. Something had to happen, please that something happen. Then a moment later the top of the desk set on fire. Mind you it wasn't the biggest fire but at least it was better than his first try.

Henry wasn't the only one who was having trouble control his powers. Parker had never had a handle on hers. The difference was that Henry's power happened to be a bit more destructive than Parker's. But it wasn't the first time Billie had worked with a firestarter. Her sister had been one, and Billie had taught her to control it relatively easily. The same with little Christy, who now used her power to terrify everyone she could. She was a beast. But if she could do it, so could Henry.

"Good, Jr! Now put it out. Suck it back into you if you can, if not, just douse it." The first step to controlling his power, was handling a fire that wasn't attached to his body. That shouldn't be too hard. And if it got bigger, Billie could always shrink it back or douse it herself.

Henry hadn't really thought about Parker and her powers. Especially now when she didn't have any memories of having powers. So it could be worse, at least she didn't have an ability like hers or she could seriously hurt someone.

Now if he could only do that. Henry watched the fire for a moment. Tilting his head as the fire grew a little. The fire started to move toward him, almost floating into the air to his hand. Then finally he was holding the fire he started in his hands. Before he knew it the fire was starting to spread up his arm. He looked up at Billie as he tried to stop himself from going human torch before he was ready to do that again. As he started to panic little fires started all around the room.

Please not again he thought.

Billie got up and crossed the room toward him. He was panicked. That was the issue here. He was afraid of the fire. That was no good. Apparently he was never one of those kids that liked to watch a candle burn, or light a match just to see how long he could hold it without burning his fingers. Billie had been that kind of kid. And now so was little Christy. Billie just needed to make Henry see that he didn't need to fear the fire.

"Calm down, kiddo. It can't hurt you. It's your fire. You're supposed to like it." Billie bent down and picked up one of the small fires that Henry had started. Years and years of honing her power of projection had gotten her a lot of control over it. She could easily draw on Henry's ability and not burn herself. "You need to stop worrying about it. It's yours. You control it. Once you get comfortable with that, there's no limit to what you can do with it."

It wasn't that Henry was afraid of the fire exactly. He was afraid of losing control of the fire, of hurting someone else with it. He knew it couldn't hurt him. He couldn't really feel the heat of the fire anymore.

But for a firestarter he was a bit of wuss when it came to his ability. He always thought the worse would happen. That he would lose control of it and something like a burning building would happen. That happening only made him think that he would never be able to control.

"It's not working," he said as his whole body went a flame. "I..I can't." The small fires started to grow bigger and bigger. All Henry could think was that he was single handily going to destory magic school.

What was it with these Halliwells and being so meek when it came to their powers? When Billie developed her powers, she owned it. It was hers and she didn't have any problems with it. But apparently Henry hadn't reached that part yet. So she was going to have to get him there.

Lifting her arm, Billie drew into her hand the growing fires from around the room. They shrunk and faltered and finally sat as a little flame in her palm. The room was perfectly fine. Unharmed. And no different than before. Henry, however, she let stay on fire. "See, nothing bad happened. Now it will work if you focus. Focus, Jr."

Henry noticed that Billie had taken care of the fire around the room which made him feel a little better. He didn't have to worry about anyone getting hurt because of him.

He listened to Billie. He focused on his ability which he thought would make the flames go away. Instead he slowly started to lift from the ground. He didn't even realize what he was doing until he looked at Billie again. He had lifted to the point were he didn't even have to lift his arm that much over his head and he would touch the roof. "Okay this is new," he said. Trying not to sound freaked.

Well that wasn't quite what she meant. It was a kind of control, but not the one they were looking for. Billie squished the fire in her hand and walked around Henry from below. She looked up, narrowing her eyebrows for a minute. This is new was an understatement.

"Okay, so not exactly what we were aiming for. But not bad." Billie wasn't ever one of those girls who was into comic books. Those girls were geeks. But she was a movie fan and she had seen the Fantastic Four. "This is no big, Jr. It has to do with the properties of fire, why it always burns upward and all that. Chemical reactions to the air and all that. You can fly." Billie shrugged, trying to make it seem like not a big deal.
